  • So this is online only? You can't go buy one from a retail outlet?

  • oh well, jumped on and bought one.

I too was going to buy an Ipad2, but this does the same and more.

Can't wait to play with it.

  • Decent deal, bought one last night.

  • I've had a tablet for a number of years (an old HP one), which I use for taking handwritten notes, that kind of thing. It uses a stylus, and I 'write' on the screen. It's then saved as handwritten, or can be converted into type. Do these new tablets (particularly this one) have the same/similar feature?

    • I've sworn off handwriting recognition since I bought an Apple Newton (a dirty word at Apple I'm sure) pre-launch about 18(!) years ago - an unmitigated disaster.

I've never tried it on my iPad, but there are programs available, and on the other tablets too - and I'm sure they are far better now.

My guess as to why it is not native to the iPad is - the obvious one - that they couldn't get it to work well enough.

      • +2

yes…. I tend not to use the 'convert to type' ability….. presumably my writing is illegible (should've been a doctor perhaps). Can be quite amusing reading what it thinks I wrote…..
However, I still like/use the 'handwritten' bit

  • +2

Don't buy this! (until I've sold my Nook color and bought one for myself)

    • +1

      haha lol

you better hurry up with your sale!

  • Does it come with a media dock for connecting to a TV?

    • +1

On the samsung tv add they show the guy streaming media wirelessly to a samsung tv will be good if i can get that to work

      • Its called Allshare by Samsung, DLNA is the protocol name, and it does work from my Samsung Galaxy S to my Samsung TV.

        • Do you need the offical samsung wireless dongle ?

    • I don't think it comes with a dock, but you can buy an HDMI dock for it.

  • +2

Anyone tried to price match at Harvey Norman or JBHifi?

    • Would be daydream man lol.

    • Deleted.

    • +1

this is an online special only

  • Looks like Gerd can't get away from OzBargain wherever he works :-D

  • I am so tempted

  • Site error… Can't even get to the payment page!

    • Keep try, I had same issue yesterday.

    • +1

      or use different browser

  • I ordered yesterday, got an order number, but no confirmation email, should I be concerned? Website kept crashing yesterday evening as well at the time that I ordered, around 8PM Friday.

    • Yes. Give customer service a call just to check that your order is in their system.

    • Yeah, I had same issue, but made order around same time, But I got both order number and confirmaton e-mail.

  • Still crashing:

    • Clear cache and cookies and/or open and close your browser. Their website constantly does that. POS

    • I had same issue yesterday, but after several try, I made it :-)

  • How do you know about the delivery times? Do you think its faster to get it
Instore or get it delivered. Telstra rep please tell me!

Also want to know if jb or harvey can price match it =P

    • +1

They use AAE prepaid satchels. On the east coast it usually means overnight, unless your in woop woop. The transit grid on their site: http://aae.com.au/applications/transit_grid#/search/
From memory prepaid satchels are treated the same as express savers.

Collect in stores are usually over-nighted. So it depends where you live or are getting it picked up.

    • +1

Collect in store says it would be available 2 business days later.

I think delivery said to allow up to 5 days. I figure probably easier and just as fast to wait at home.

      • +1

Its max 5 days east coast (approx Sydney) to Woop Woop WA or the likes. If your order is in before 10-11am its usually dispatched the same day and usually arrives the next day if you live in the metro areas of the east coast. I think its a day or two for those in the west.
        Collect in stores are overnighted.

Seeing that this started approximately 4pm Friday, most of you living on the east should get your orders by Tuesday morning, same for any collect in stores. Of course this is all dependant on stock available. I'd be expecting backorder emails soon :-S

  • Other than size, which has better features - Galaxy Tab or Galaxy S

    Thanks

    • apples and oranges, which one do you want to eat?

      • +1

        apples.

      • this one is online only. I will pick up this one at George St next week~!

    • What's GT2000T??

      • It's the model number on the back of the box. The one from Optus is GT2000.

    • +2

No surprise there. Has anyone ever successfully price matched anything at Hardly Normal?

  • Anyone have problem to make payment by credit card? I have tried 3 different credit card, not work. The card I use are NAB MasterCard, NAB Vida Card, and ANZ Visa Card. The message said: Your payment transaction failed. Credit card details are invalid or card limits exceeded. Please enter valid details or try again later.
I contact my bank, they said Telstra online payment system not work since 7 weeks ago.

    • I paid by CBA Amex and it worked perfectly.

    • I paid by NAB Amex, no problem at all.

    • paid by ANZ Visa and it went through

Anyone want to swap mine for an Optus one in Sydney, send me a message.

    • WTF - unlocked dude ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

      • He wants optus band

      • Surely there shouldn't be any difference in the frequency?

        • +1

          there is 850 and 900

        • +1

There is. Telstra uses 850/2100 or 850/1900/2100 (not sure which), Optus Voda 3 etc are 900/2100. They all use 2100 Mhz in major cities afaik but with this you would be without 3G in rural areas with Optus, and I have no plans to move to Telstra.

  • I want mine nooooow

  • Hope mine comes early in the week before the long weekend

  • Any one know what band this Tablet support? 850/2100 or 850/1900/2100? Unlocked means no activation required right?

  • where do i buy some cheap accessories? Namely the leather cover - unless it is possible to carry it around in my without it getting dirty.

        • Come on BT, accidentally slipping up & getting 20k units on alibaba wouldn't really hurt would it! ;)

Rumour has it that Dick smith are dropping the price to $269 tomorrow!

It's still $588, are you sure it's going down to $269 today?

      • "@Fincky 20 hours 27 min ago

Yes I will also, I hope my Lie does not come to fruition or I will be forced to buy another one!"

Read two posts up, I was just stirring the hundreds of people that had already purchased ;) (Including me)

  • where'd you hear this rumour fincky?

    • From a techxpert :P

      • +3

I love that name, 'techxpert'. Better than calling themselves 'Dicks'

          or dicksperts

  • What's the best mobile data plan to use with the Galaxy Tab?

    I'm thinking the Telstra $150 10gb 12-month pre-paid mobile internet plan?

Alternatively recharge $60 on a pre-paid mobile long-life sim and just purchase a data pack everytime you decide you need 3G, on the assumption that you mostly use it at home on wi-fi?

    • I had figured on that same plan myself. Telstra network is the best match for this Tab anyway, and NextG seems to be the best network. Not that I personally use Telstra for my mobile or ISP, but that $150 plan may be the way to go.

Alternatively, if you just want some casual Internet access on the go and are an existing TPG customer, their sim costs $1 a month and provides 150MB data per month before charging - http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html. They use the Optus network.

  • My finger is itching…. maybe time for an upgrade. My HTC desire has been excellent though. I paid 700 a year ago

  • Can I use this tablet without a sim card?
I am getting this to wifi within the house and GPS navigation while driving.
    please clarify. Thanks in advance.

    • Learn to read… the answer has been asked and answered…

  • I don't need one but I brought one anyway … another gadget to add to my collection!

    • Same here lol

  • +1

@he88388: Yes you can use this tablet without a sim card.

  • +1

going overseas…will buy one and save another $27 for GST claim …lol

    • +1

i hate to burst ur bubble but ur $1 short of the $300 mark for a GST refund

      • +1

Awesome! $300 per invoice :) As the smart person below me said, buy a sim card :)

      • +2

just add a $2 starter SIM

  • Can this deal beat free maybelline lip balm?

    • +3

I'm a fag and I wouldn't be seen with maybelline lip balm, but I'd be seen with a Samsung Galaxy Tab! So I guess it does beat free lip balm.

      • lip smackers are way cooler than maybelline lip balm.
