Dell 27" 1440P 155Hz FreeSync Gaming Monitor: S2719DGF - $527.20 Delivered @ Dell eBay

460
POOLTIME

Cheaper than the last deal posted on 22/10/2018 for $561.74.

This monitor was released in Q4 of 2018. It is the successor to the highly acclaimed S2716DG which was equipped with G-Sync. Although this has a TN panel, reviews claim that with some calibration, you can get it looking close to an entry-level IPS panel. Take this with a grain of salt.

Based on early reports (e.g. here, here, here, here), Nvidia GPU support is great; so this is looking like a VERY appealing monitor.

Ughh do I really need this or not..

I have the Gsync varient of this monitor, and its Good, I managed to snag mine for 450 after cashback, so check if cashback is available with this

    • How long ago was that? And who was the retailer?

    • No cb via CashRewards anymore.

    • +1

I have the G-Sync version which I've very happy with (bought for $560 on Dell outlet).

This is a good time for this now NVIDIA have announced some support for Freesync monitors.

  • +5

    TN means no no.

    • +1

      It means thanks, no

    • +3

Reviews indicate its not your run of the mill TN and quite good.

    • +2

      Thank u, next

    • 155hz means TN or nothing

      • This monitor is only 155hz over clocked afaik with a native 144hz and there are quite a few IPS monitors that are sold as 165hz OC.

    • I use an ultrasharp and I am utterly shocked with how comparable my partners relatively cheap, and far more modern, TN panel is. The difference is far smaller than it was 5-10 years ago, when it was a gaping chasm in quality.

  • +4

Literally bought this, https://www.umart.com.au/Samsung-LC27HG70QQEXXY-2K-27in-HDR-… , about 6 hours ago.

Oh well, HDR and VA for me.

    • Also Freesync 2, so perfect for Xbox One S / X

      • Or just PC with AMD card.

        • Or just PC with NVIDIA card + new freesync-enabled drivers.

          • @Heero: Wow. Are you saying NVidia will be supporting Freesync as well? I am sure it wont work.
I read in a forum recently after release or new AMD cards from Nvidia that FreeSync does not work properly.
People using it on their monitors with AMD cards might confirm.

            • +4

@EnALup: nVidia cards now support freesync on 10 series and 20 series cards as of the latest driver release on 15 Jan. Was a big announcement made during CES.

However, given the varying degrees of quality between freesync panels, your mileage may vary on how well it works (which is no different from when you have an AMD card).

            • +3

@EnALup: with the new freesync-enabled driver, G-sync is now enabled for my 1060 + Asus MG278Q (Freesync) setup.

          • +1

            @Heero: True that.

AMD are supposed to be releasing new GPUs mid way this year, if the AMD cards are good, Nvidia might finally have some competition and bring their card prices down. With Freesync supported by both sides, I can choose whatever side is better value.

    • Isn't this a better option compared to Dell?

      • +3

Depends, if you value high contrast and better colours and don't care about ghosting during fast paced games then yes the samsung is better. VA panels like the Samsung have usually have fairly poor pixel response times for black to black transitions. This leads to "ghosting" or a blur/smearing effect for fast moving objects on screen especially with dark scenes. Overdrive is a technology that many monitors have to counteract this, however for most monitors overdrive doesn't work consistently with freesync as it usually is only works for a certain refresh rate. Gsync monitors notably do not have this problem as they support overdrive for all possible refresh rates.

I'm not really sure how legit it is but this video purports to show ghosting at 60Hz with freesync on for the samsung 27" monitor

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddZkSLG_oNM

The dell monitor on the other hand is a TN monitor which tend to have much better pixel response times regardless of overdrive at the expense of poorer colour and contrast.

        • Ironic as it may sound the reviews seem to indicate colour accuracy of the Dell is remarkably good. However everything i read did say wished for higher contrast to make things pop more. In any case I am tempted by this, ive been using a Samsung LU28E590DS/XY 28" UHD for quite sometime now which is TN panel anyway (using an older IPS before) and its good for most things. Tempted by this higher hz business though for gaming since im stuck at 60hz

          • @Xizor: I'm in the exact same position as you lol. Was hoping for a 27" 1440p IPS monitor with freesync but I'm slowly coming around to just buying a decent TN screen since I really care about refresh rate and no blurring rather than colour accuracy.

            • +1

@Subada: Suckers eh. This looks pretty good but i think i might wait for a deal that just screams take my money.

      • +1

That's up to you. Everyone's looking for the perfect monitor but regardless of whichever one you choose, you'll be making a compromise somewhere.

In the case of the Samsung, you'll need to get used to having a curved display, and would probably need to buy a VESA mount if you don't have the desk space to accommodate the stand that comes with it.

VA panels have their downsides, too, but every existing technology does.

        • +1

Oh yeah, that stand is bloody deep, luckily I have a big desk.

    • Just wondering how this monitor turned out, considering getting the same.

      Thanks

      • +1

Love it. I have it side by side with a $300 Phillips 31" IPS panel, and the Samsung kills it.

Watching some HDR test videos on Youtube, it is clear that that high colour VA panel has much better reproduction than the cheap IPS panel. Colours are not only more vibrant, but IMO more accurate.

  • Hi guys, i am looking for a monitor for video and photo editing. Will this be a good monitor for that?

I am not pro but do use the editing for youtube videos (real estate and travel videos) and adobe illustrator for photos.

I'll connect the monitor to my 2018 macbook pro 15inch.

If not this, any other recommendations?

    Thanks

    • +4

Generally you want an IPS monitor for photo/graphic work - the colour reproduction and viewing angles are better on IPS, where they can be less consistent on other panel technology.

      • Thank you. IPS panel it is then.

        Any recommendations?

        • Not quite accurate advice. Read reviews, this monitor actually has good colour re-production. What it lacks is some contrast and viewing angles.

    • +1

For productivity/creativity uses I would go something like this. Doesn't have high refresh rates, but does have HDR, 100% sRGB ratings and it's a IPS panel, https://www.umart.com.au/Asus-PA27AC-ProArt-27--WQHD-IPS-HDR…

      • Oh! really good price and also has USB C in so only one cable needed.

How does this compare with the below?

        LG 27uk850-w

        Benq BL2711u

        • +1

Hmmm, well the LG and Benq are both 4k panels, whereas the ASUS is 2k, personal preference on that, I'm not a fan of 4K, everything is so small.

All do 100% sRGB. The ASUS is only 8-bit HDR, other two are 10-bit, which I'd take. ASUS has higher brightness.

They all have their ups and downs.

End of the day, all 3 are monitors geared towards designers. All will work well for you. Take your

    • +2

you probably want a monitor that has USB C input and IPS display. Start from there.

    • +2

This monitor is basically exclusively targeted at gaming. If you're not going to be doing that then don't bother buying anything with freesync/gsync as those features come with a markup and do nothing for non-gaming applications.

As others have said look for an IPS monitor. Furthermore I'd recommend >27" for good productivity and at least 1440p. Based on benchmarks for the macbook don't bother getting anything with a higher refresh rate that 60hz as the macbook won't get much higher than that frame rate unless you're playing very light games like counter strike or league of legends.

      • Thank you. Makes sense to stick to 60hz. I dont play games at all so no issues with the frame rates.

        Any recommendations between these two?

        LG 27uk850-w

  • Could anyone let me know how this compares to the Alienware AW2518HF 25" Full HD (1080p) at 240 Hz Monitor HDMI DP. The specs all go over my head and I'm not sure what difference any of them make.
    The link is below.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alienware-AW2518HF-25-Full-HD-10…
Thanks for your help if you can, if not… Have a good day.
    Cheers

    • +1

Alienware is 1080p vs the Dell which is 1440p, which means the Dell has 1.77X the viewing area / density of pixels.
The Alienware is 240hz though so can display 240 frames per second (if your graphics card can support it) The Dell is 155 frames per second.

So if just gaming and you want the quickest/smoothest the Alienware is a good option even though it's smaller and lower resolution.

If you game but also do a lot of web browsing, desktop stuff etc the Dell is probably a better option.

      • Thanks so much!

  • I paid the same price for the Acer XF270HU which is 1440P 27" 144Hz IPS freesync in december (It's the freesync version of the predator and the panel is a little old tech now but so far I like it, and having a built in USB 3 hub is also very nice.

    • Where did you get the XF270HU from? Looks like a better alternative if it was similarly priced.

Hijacking thread with a laptop question if anyone can help….

    Is the 'Dell G3 17 3779 Gaming Laptop i7-8750H 6-Core 16GB DDR4 128GB SSD GTX 1050Ti' a good price for $1519 with discount? Dell online has it for $1599

keen for a min 1050Ti gpu… but still seems pricey

    Cheers

    • +1

It's a decent price given the specs. Reviewers aren't fond of its blue-plastic aesthetic, however, and HP had their OMEN 17-an141tx for $1300 with those same specs except it looks like a kid's toy.

      EDIT: it's out of stock.

  • Are there downsides to having refresh rates that aren't multiples of 3? I just noticed that the majority seem to be 60, 75, 90, 120, 144 etc.

    • No, the refresh rate is literally a measure of how many times a monitor refreshes an image on its screen. Each monitor has a tolerance, many monitors can be overclocked. Two of the same monitor may have different thresholds (before artifacts start appearing or the monitor poops itself), e.g. one 60Hz monitor might overclock to 76Hz, another might overclock to 78Hz. I guess the panel manufacturer sets a safe refresh rate.

In saying this, I think the S2719DGF is a 144Hz monitor, but overclockable to 155Hz via the on screen display.

  • Tempting! Or pay the extra and get the Gsync version for $655 hmmmm….

    • Do you have a 10 or 20 series GPU? Reportedly, adaptive sync is working perfectly with this monitor.

  • Will the Freesync work with my GTX 970 Hybrid? Or does it only work with the 10 or 20 GPU series?

    • +1

It will only work with the 10 / 20 series.

  • Ordered one, Dell must be slow to ship items right? Estimated delivery Tuesday, Feb 5, 2019 - Tuesday, Feb 12, 2019

    • I suspect that the monitors aren't even in the country yet and they're taking preorders. Not all that surprising since this is a new model which had only been announced late August of last year.

  • +1

Heads up to anyone whom intends to pair this monitor up with their NVIDIA 10 / 20 series GPU: FreeSync won't work over HDMI, and so you'll need to purchase a DisplayPort cable separately as the monitor won't come with one already in the box. Be wary of buying a cheap DisplayPort cable, though, as some might have the 20th pin still connected which can damage your hardware.

Dell sell certified DisplayPort cables on their website here.

  • Just got a AOC AGON AG322QCX. Decided against this Dell. Same price

  • +1

Ordered 19/01, shipped today and expected to arrive 25/01. Well ahead of estimated times on eBay

    • Likewise. Depending on how good it is after proper calibration (using an i1Display Pro), I might get another 2 if the sale hasn't ended by then.

      • Can you let us know how it goes? A quick review would be great!
Apart from colour accuracy, I hope the viewing angles are good enough for two people doing some photoshop or reviewing images together.
