      • Gsync, closest competitor is a predator at $799 without delivery.
      • +2

        What he said ^^^^

      • +5

Predator is IPS. This is TN.

        • +2

Depends what predator, the one at $799 definitely isn't you have to add another 100 bucks for IPS
          https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/tN4NnQ/acer-predator-xb2…

        • +1

          @Jimmycfc: fair point

I swear when I bought my IPS 27 Predator there was a TN version for noticeably cheaper but I could be wrong. Maybe it was the 24 inch model.

With a $100 difference I’d prefer IPS but I’d understand people who’d prefer the faster GTG of TN

        • +1

          why the negs?

        • @petry: #JustInternetThings?

        • @Jimmycfc: Almost every single time there is an ebay sale there is at least 1 Acer predator for $800. Heck i even got the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q 27"for 799 2 weeks ago…

        • +3

          @petry:
Because this is OZ Bargain and people neg for stupid reasons or for no reason at all.

        • @petry: No neg from me, but when I saw the post I expected to see some comment about it being / not being a gaming monitor. Lo and behold, the first comment was a stupid one on that.

    • +18

Good good let the hatred flow through you

    • -8

unless you care about ranking up from silver to gold nova in CS then 60hz will be fine once you get used to it

  • +2

Don't forget 12% cashback from Cashrewards.

    • Yep added that in the description, didn't add it to the title price as the Cashrewards offer ends today but the Dell sale ends on the 5th.

    • +4

Apparently my cashback value will be $108.88, looks like it picked up the original price not the sale price… Even better.

    • never actually used cashrewards but it appears to be only 8.5%?

    • Link to the Cashrewards deal to be used with this? Can't find it at all.

  • +1

    Great find!

  • dam son, that's a good price.
I'm waiting for the 24" to go on sale, but I don't think it will ever be cheaper than this.

    • The 24" is currently $859 but it's not on sale, although cashback if bought today would still get you %12 off of that.

    • +1

The 24" was on sale at Dell AU for $515

  • +6

    TN

    • +2

      is TN really that bad?

      • -1

The TN version is 1ms response time
The IPS version is 4ms response time.

When gaming is the priority, I'd choose TN.

        • that isn't how advertised response times work

        • +17

Almost no one outside of FPS progamers will notice the difference between 1ms and 4ms response times, but anyone can tell the difference between IPS and TN. It's not just viewing angles either; even in the sweet spot, colour reproduction and blacks will always be poorer on TN. IPS is better all-round, especially if you're doing any photo or video editing. In games, I'd still pick IPS for the colours.

        • +2

          @Strand0410:

Yes. Thank you. Always amuses me when people buy cards like GTX1080 / GTX1080ti so they can max out the graphics settings in the latest games, only to then use TN panels. What's the point of using these max settings if it looks like shit no matter what due to your display?

If one prioritises gaming performance so much that they think 1ms will actually help, then they should also be running in 4:3 720p like the pros as well. In which case a GTX1070 would be more than enough.

        • +2

@Soothsayer: I mean I can't speak for everyone here… but this monitor in person is quite beautiful, like comparable to an IPS, once you go past a viewing angle of 120ish degrees you start noticing it but don't just trash a TN because its the thing to do, at least do some research on products.

        • +1

@Dragoons55: it reminds of mobile phone reviewers complaining about viewing angles

      • Yes

      • +1

While TN has slightly less motion blur compared to IPS, it is inferior in every other way.

Check this out for motion blur comparison between 4ms IPS (sides) vs 1ms TN (middle) @ 144hz: https://i.gyazo.com/f2c7f451a1dc1024f1ae4ba5d114555f.jpg

Not much difference really. Then again if you really care about picture quality I would get 1ms VA like MSI MPG27CQ over either IPS or TN.

        • +1

I have a VA panel, it’s utter shite for gaming. So much damn smearing that it’s unplayable. IMHO, I’d rather play any game on a shitty $100 officeworks TN panel than a mid range VA.

          IPS > TN >>> VA.

        • +1

@no not me: can't say i ever had issues gaming with my va panel. biggest issue would be reflection during the day.

        • @no not me: Gaming VA monitors generally don't have that issue and triple the contrast ratio of IPS or TN. Just because yours is crap doesn't mean they all are.

    • For me i really don't care about the viewing angles and i couldn't justify the price difference just for slightly better colours. Although i will be gaming only, no media editing.

      • Okay brilliant, that's the answer I was after, considering I don't care much for viewing angles, I'll be gaming on it and sitting straight on lmao

        Thanks Jimmy

        • I'd advise to buy it today if you are planning too with the cashback it has actually just cost me $490 as the cashback picked up the original price not the sale price!

        • +1

@Jimmycfc: “This deal is getting better all the time”

        • Just in time for my new PC Build :D

        • @Jimmycfc:

How did you get to that price?

        • @phil1311 When i received the cashrewards email back it stated i was getting the %12 off of the original price, not the sale price.

  • Faaaark, such a good price with the cashback.

I bought a 144hz monitor without gsync for not much less. So tempted to buy this and sell the other but it's too much hassle… :(

  • This is a good price. There is a similar specced ACER (with Freesync) for $608 from Amazon AU, which comes down to $578 using Cashrewards: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ (still a TN panel)

    • Freesync always seems to be cheaper than gsync, Although i wanted to go gsync to use it with my Nvidia graphics card.

    • +1

Generally you can pick up freesync monitors for $100+ cheaper than g-sync counterparts.

  • Thank you so much. Been waiting for a good deal on a good monitor. Get cashback for maximum return

    • Sent just in time for my new PC build! I cant believe it :D

  • Got one, thanks for the upload Jimmycfc!

Cept I only got 12% from Cashrewards. Did I miss something? So total would be $527.12?

    • I got 12% however, when the email confirming the cashback came through it was recognizing the original price so it said i was getting $108.88 back. Wait for the email!

      • how long did it take the cashrewards email to come thru? M'm not sure mine worked

        • same here

        • @ellave:

mine literally came thru just as i send that message, took roughly 15-20mins, and says $108.98 as a return

        • @Scottyrm: lol well there ya go! Cashrewards FTW

  • This or the Acer KG271UA (https://www.umart.com.au/Acer-KG271U-27-inch-TN-Free-SYNC-16…) for the same price?

Anyone know what Dell's monitor warranty is like?

    • +2

Also a difference between freesync and Gsync, Freesync is for AMD graphics cards & GSync is for Nvidia.
Dell have given me a 3 year warranty with this purchase listed as "Advanced exchange service"

      • What about dead pixels etc?

        • +1

If you aren't using it for freesync or gsync just get a decent monitor that doesn't have either in it and save $100 or so.

    • +2

The model you linked is free sync, not g-sync.

      Edit: beaten thanks to drOptus.

      • Obviously if you've already invested in AMD, then Freesync is best, and vice-versa, but if you hadn't already have either card, which is best?

Other than this, is there any other specs that set one apart from the other?

        • I'm not too sure as to which technology is actually better, although freesync is cheaper so thats a pro right there.
Not too much apart from the Acer you listed has speakers

  • +3

    XB271HU is an IPS Panel
    This is a TN panel

    Keep that in mind

    • so which is better..dell or Acer?

      • -3

If it is for gaming, I'd go TN.

      • Image quality IPS is better significantly, TN has faster response times. If you do twitch gaming (quickest response times) then TN is a priority, if you like better graphics, take in large vistas such as Witcher 3, then go IPS.

  • Using Cashrewards, how do you see how much you save? At the Dell site, or afterwards at the Cashreqards site?

    • +1

Afterwards on the cashrewards site plus an email will come through shortly after confirming.

      • Thanks - so you're saying you got 12% off the original price?

        • That's what my cashrewards email has stated, yes.

  • -2

How to make the price 490$ ? :| Clicking through cashrewards still shows same price.

    • Read up on cashrewards website as to how it works!
It never discounts the price on the original website.

  • +2

    Just drop to 8.5% cashrewards?

    • omg..yes..!

    • Looks like it has just changed…

      • fine….i will use shopback reward then..

        • Tell me how Shopback goes, I might use them too!

        • @KARMAAA: 12%

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: Yes but has anyone tried Shopback with this monitor, like has it worked?

        • @KARMAAA: takes 2 days

        • +1

          @KARMAAA:

got $108.98 transaction in my shopback account…

    • 8.5% puts it at -$75, making final price $525 ish

    • Oh sh$t, I just placed the order, how do I know whether it is the 12% or the 8.5% after changes.

  • dame cashreward, really disappointed with the change..

  • +2

Very tempting, but since I use my monitor as a TV also I'll wait for an IPS.

  • +3

    As per the Digital Trends review;

    "Poor black levels and contrast
    Inaccurate gamma
    Bland color
Too expensive for its mediocre performance"

May be worth holding out unless you're desperate

    • That is picked from one review though, although the reviews are quite mixed for it. I believe the later revisions (Which this one is) has fixed up the issues the earlier ones were having.

  • Neg me if you have to for attempted hijacking, but does anyone know of any glorious deals/have any recommendations for a smaller 1440p monitor for someone on a budget, say 23-25" max? My wife needs something for work to extend her Macbook and 27" is probably overkill.

    • +1

      Dell P2418D

    • +1

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/388020
      27" is perfect for 1440p.

    • +1

You will struggle to find many monitors under 27" with 1440p because it is almost overkill. 1080p is fine for 24 inch monitors but once you get up 27"+ you will start to notice the difference a bit more.

  • Probably this is only suitable for most FPS Gamers.

I placed an order to replace my super old 120Hz BenQ

    • Why only FPS??

  • Just did the purchase, although cashrewards have denied a few of my purchases over the pass with no explanation, not sure why.

And I tend to forget to follow up, this time around though I would, but looks like they've reduced the discount to 8.5% for those who still haven't purchased.

    • try to shop through incognito, if you have some popup blocker extensions

  • Do want but I dont think i can justify spending $600 on a monitor for csgo, which i play 10hrs a week.

    • +1

In my third year of the uni, I played like 10hrs /day, I got a GE at the end of the semester and also a FAIL for one unit :D

  • +2

What about cashback from shopback. upto 15% cb ? Checked with chrome extension savable.

    • That's for "small business" something or rather. 12% would apply to this monitor.

    • I saw this too

  • Thought this was UP2716D 😩
