          • @fatming: Depends on your spend and what you want to do with the points.

            • @daft009: We’re pretty big spender. We have the ANZ black which converts 1:1 to qantas but not sure if AMEX is still better even after devalue coz of flexibility to convert to various airlines…..just confused with all these changes

              • @fatming: What do you define as big spender? 10k/month?

              • +1

@fatming: Really only you can make that decision.
For me I'm sticking to amex and even just got the platinum card. My spend is considerably high though, 7 figures over a year

Too bad EGC can’t be used to buy these anymore. :(

    • Some stores still can. Think regional areas where no one can be bothered going to update the machines ;)

  • Can you withdraw cash from these cards during a purchase at woolies?

    • The machines ask you to 'insert' the card ( I think). You could check before buying and if that is the case, then these cards have no chip.

    • I haven't tried recently, but earlier the transaction would be declined, once it had a cash out component.

    • No.

  • Any limits on max cards? Can't see the t&cs

    • No limits

    • -1

Ask Woolworths then let us know.

      • +1

Last father's Day the visa 1 cards said no limit but some stores imposed their own

    • Visa ones had no limit, but took 2 minutes each to activate… How much of an OzBargainer do you want to look like standing at the checkout for X minutes?

      • There was issue at that time, if you buy 1 it is activated instantly but if you check out more than 1 it takes a few minutes to activate.

And many stupid staffs didn't know and just reset the machine which also means your card is not activated.

  • +1

Great when combined with 5% staff discount

Gone are the old days when we can use Wish gift cards

  • Can you pay your taxes with this?

    • +7

Not directly, but you can buy iTunes cards with them

      • +1

Hey, you won't believe how many people take it seriously.

      • LOL

    • +2

You can try redeem it at a post office when paying an ATO notice, but some of the no-hopers manning the desks make you use these sorts of cards over their dead body like you're spending their money.

    • +3

No. ATO only accepts iTunes card as per buckster ;)

    • -2

It is exactly what I will be using them for, but only at post offices which have self service kiosks. I.e. Brisbane city.

I reckon it is good for Chinese drug lords who carry a stash of cash and want to launder their money or for a tourist who needs a eftpos card for some reasons or a tradies who get paid in cash for their service.

I've seen many Asian buy a load of Visa gift cards, so definitely there is a demand.

    • Chinese 'infant milk formula' lords.

  • Would 5% staff discount work for a free $4.40?

    • Yes

      • You could then buy the gift card with a gift card and you would make $4.40 every time. Rinse and repeat.

        • -2

That is why the don't allow you to buy gift card with gift card…

          • @highdealer: Except this isn't a gift card. It's possible to buy another EFTPOS card with this.

            • -1

@ronnknee: Hmm, yet the product has 'The Perfect Gift Card' printed in large letters on it…

              • +1

@forrester: Don't fall for the marketing crap, and go by what the cards actually are instead.

These are technically EFTPOS cards and can be used anywhere EFTPOS is accepted. You can use EFTPOS cards to purchase EFTPOS/gift cards at Woolworths. Just like how Westfield Gift Cards are actually EFTPOS cards.

        • hat is why the don't allow you to buy gift card with gift card…

Nope. It's an eftpos card. My perpetual money scheme would work.

        • -2

U could get 5% discount on Wish gift card almost everyday with various method (cashrewards is often one). No need to be a staff. And doesn't have to be $88.

          • @hanofee:

U could get 5% discount on Wish gift card

            And? How is that relevant?

  • +5

Some credit cards, including AMEX, allow payment of account with eftpos… just an idea to milk some points from this deal ;)
Also if you have council rates, worth checking if they accept eftpos for payment at the admin, I know mine does and they were happy to split payment.
Shame there's no Rewards points/WISH payment allowed but still worth loading up on these for fee-free, Amex sourced eftpos goodness!

    • +2

Wait … use Amex to buy eftpos card , use eftpos card to pay off Amex … sounds like a limitless cycle

      • There is a $2 fee.

        • is that a $2 for each eftpos card I use or for one Amex bill statement?

          • @initialvin: Each payment, but as the machines won’t split it is effectively for each $88 card you use.

            • @Maccaisking: wait so if the monthly bill is 880, I will pay $2 or $20 fee?

              • @initialvin: If at a self serve terminal it will be $20 as no splitting. If you can find a staff member to split the payment at the register, $2, but very few of any staff do this for gift card payments.

                • @Maccaisking: To pay amex at auspost you need to opt in for paper billing yeah? Does that mean you lose quite a bit of online functionality on your amex acct?

          • +2

@initialvin: I know the DJs Amex card account can be paid by eftpos/savings in-store at any register, without any additional fees.
Staff usually process each payment separately but if they know what they're doing, they can split it, ie: Ask to pay $880 with split payments, they ask how much is the first payment, $88, swipe eftpos, then swipe amex, then staff input next payment, repeat steps = one long receipt with all payments done and applied instantly. Nice way to get rid of eftpos gift cards with tiny amounts remaining.
Sounds like a long process but it's not really, worth it for the windfall of points from it all.

    • slow if only done in $88 increments i would think!
unless you're a student with plenty of time :p

    • just wondering how to pay off my Amex bill with eftpos, like do I have to go to the post office?

      • +1

if you don’t have an Eftpos machine at home…yep.

  • +1

Thanks Op! Time to earn some Amex points

  • +5

This is good for reaching the minimum spend require to get bonus point on those new credit card sign up deal.

  • I'm not a staff member, but as an idea for someone who is, use your staff discount to save 5% off.

  • If multiple cards are bought can they be used in one go at an Australia Post to pay for things like strata fees (where eftpos is an accepted payment but cc isn't)?

    • Not sure this strategy works anymore. I used to pay my council rates using Eftpos GCs at Australia Post self serve kiosks last year. It worked initially but sometime in November last year, it started giving me an error message saying that the payment method was not accepted. This was at AusPost Sydney GPO and Market St. YMMV.

    • +2

Can confirm that eftpos gift cards are problematic/declined at AusPost for bill payments, includes these indue-issued gift cards and other eftpos cards, as I've tried to pay council and other big bills this way.

      • Thanks for the heads up, was playing to pick up a few of these for Amex points and pay bills but if it’s not possible then will not bother!

        • Yeah this offer is ideal for racking up amex points. Wish it was like last year's offer on the $100 eftpos cards + 2000 woolies reward points ($10) PER card, was hilarious to see the discounts stack on consecutive gift cards bought :) Obviously stores ran out of stock pretty quick that week.

  • +1

Awesome. I can use this to stock up on baby formulas ….

  • I want to see the upvotes stay at 88 voted for the fee free $88 card

    • too late

  • Woolies upgraded their check out system and using gift cards to buy gift cards is no longer accepted (even physical gift cards), the POS machine will show item not accepted. Not sure same in every Woolies and Woolies Metro, but tested at QV last week and didn't work. But it was working last month.

    • And? Sounds like you tested woolworths wish card. This is an eftpos card.

  • Can I use these to pay off my CTP and rego via bpay or auspost billpay?

    • +1

looks like you're in sydney. service nsw takes paypal now. just use that with your amex imo.

      • yeah but triple points via woolies shop tho!

        • For CTP, you have to pay it off in one payment. I do not think it allows split options.

For Rego, staff will be relunctant to take split payments, may limit to two payments.

          • @Neoika: ill find out today at the posties!

            • @pepsicles: okay yeah you're right they only allow one off payment. oh well

  • I have made this comment in previous iteration of this offer, but u can 'cash out' EFTPOS cards in gaming venues for a fee or fee-free into a TAB account.

    • do you mind sharing which gaming venues? thanks

    • I work at a gaming venue, and you CANNOT top up TAB accounts in the venue using an EFTPOS card. Maybe it is possible at an actual TAB, but not in our TAB which is incorporated in our gaming venue.

  • +1

Not sure, can't see them in WA.

  • end of golden era. the winter finally comes
    .cannot use egiftcard on selfserve
    at syd townhall

    • as in you can't buy them through the SS checkouts? or can't use them to purchase goods through SS checkouts?

      • no egiftcard allowed on the $88 perfect eftpos card, once you choose egiftcard, still allow you to enter egiftcard number, but before entering PIN, a warning pops up: method not allowed.😓😓😓😓

        • +3

          This is old news.

    • Went in to purchase 5 cards at townhall, selected egift card split payment and then the system asked me to put In the gift card number on the terminal.

I had to cancel the transaction as I had gift cards in denomination of $40 and it would take ages and unfortunately I had less time

Curious to know at what stage the system declines egift cards ?

Also, 5% staff discount received and 5 cards activated in less than a minute unlike only1

      • Aftee you click on egfit
        You csn enter the number.

When you press ok, it says " transaction cancelled, items not allowed"

Very teasing, as you think its almost worked.

        • Ahh right. Thanks for letting me know

  • The machine declined my egift card after I entered the number. Seems there is not much stock, there were only 8 of them at my local Glenhuntly store and I bought all of them. The staff member came over to the self serve and quietly asked me if I was being scammed. I told him I wasn't but hey- thanks for asking!

  • Great! My mother has one Priceless Mastercard that gives 5% cash back on Woolworths purchases.

  • A whole bunch at Victoria Harbour, picked up 10. Seems the delivery was late, being end of the promo period.

The last hurrah before 3 Krisflyer points per dollar become 1.5 in April.

  • Does anyone have a copy of the full T&Cs of this deal? I sent my sister to buy some and she noticed later that she actually got charged the $4.95 fee…

    • +1

Did she buy it during the offer period?

    • $5.95?? Pretty simple - Wrong cards or outside period.
