This is the worst brand of Indian sauces which taste nothing like real Indian sauces! I bought the entire range the last time it went on sale thinking the packaging looks authentic enough, but every single flavour they have is rubbish. Yucks.

    • Compared to what ?
      Love the chicken tikka sauce,

      • Compared to what ?

        'real' Indian sauces!

          From that New Deli

          • @Lizard Spock: This is no place for dad jokes. Can't you see that a serious discussion on sauce authenticity is in progress?

I thought these were the better against Sharwoos/Pataks

    • agreed. they are horrible

      Really?
I take it you are either Indian/ have live in India and can therefore tell the difference.

I've personally found this better than most of Pataks/ Sharwoods.

Most pataks/ Sharwoods have been modified to cater for our Aussie tastes

      • His name is Honda

        • Hey, lots of Indians drive Hondas and love their B18Cs and their K engines but I digress..

    • What would you recommend? I'm sick of eating this Westernised crap.

      • The Spice Tailor… DONE!

        • Spice tailor is nice but most packs call for 250gm of protein vs pataks/ Sharwoods 500gm
So it last half as much (or costs twice as much)

The only decent pataks one is their regular butter chicken. Here it is termed hot

Passage to India calls for 1000gm protein. But I've found it gives me better results if I use 500gm. Their vindaloo is really spicy, and the Sri Lankan curry is nice

      • Brands like MTR or Haldirams are great, but you'll need to go to an actual Indian grocer to get them. Heaps better than the rubbish brand above.

          news to me
do MTR or Haldirams do curry simmer sauces?
Not the ready to eat curries, but the type that I need to add meat to and simmer with?
I know for example I can buy an MTR Rajmah Masala which I just need to heat and eat, but I've not yet seen MTR/ Haldirams butter chicken simmer sauce to which I need to add chicken to and cook with

if so how much do they cost and which Indian grocer do you buy them from?

          • @docians: They do simmer sauces. That's the only way I want them. There's a number shops selling them in the Western suburbs such as Point Cook, West Footscray, or SE such as Clayton. Basically anywhere where there are sizeable Indian communities I guess. I'm not sure about the prices as I've never paid attention but a few dollars I think.

"Curry, nature's wonder food that looks the same going in, as it does coming out"

  • I would never make an instant curry with these or any simmer sauces for obv reasons.. HOWEVER, if you buy the Rogan Josh simmer sauce + diced lamb and cook in slow cooker for 8hr on low, you'll get a great Indian curry!

  • Ghez, not work safe if you google and screw up the word simmer.

  • These are terrible. Agreed. You are better off getting instant spice mixes from an Indian spice shop.

care to share a name of a brand that you have tried and liked

      • If you are after North Indian type dishes, try MDH or Shans etc. If you like the taste of South Indian type cuisine, I found Eastern, Manjilas, Devon etc very nice. More often than not you can make a sensational recipe from following the instructions on the back of these spice mix packs. Now that I am a bit more adventurous I have been following Youtube recipes and cooking up great curries. Plenty of great Indian chefs on Youtube if you want to try that too.

        • excellent!
          thank you so much
a trip to the Indian grocers this weekend
