Ebay obviously saw all the negs/comments on the free ebay plus trial

    • +6

Yep Car parts are back, so I got a lot to buy !

      • +7

Already have fluffy dice, oversized rear spoiler and bullet hole decals in my basket. 😎

    • +4

      Probably all the cancelations too

      • +23

The only paying plus members left are probably those who forgot to cancel during the free trial and got renewed automatically.

        • Wait a minute didn’t we pay like $30 for 12 months?

        • You mean like I did the other day?? :(
Set the wrong calendar entry to remove the trial so got lumped with the $49 fee. :@

        • +1

That was me. It took me a few hours to realise what that charge was for. Anyone been successful in removing the fee?

          • @nomoneynoproblems: I'd try a PayPal dispute or chargeback if you are determined to try and get this money back.

PayPal isn't owned by eBay anymore so they have no allegiance to them.

Saying that, I don't know how eBay may 'retaliate' to trying to pull this off. They may suspend your account.

            • +1

@ginmi: I tired.. No luck… Tried Ebay chat support and they said "You didn't cancel during the free promo term so the charge can't be removed"..
I'm waiting to see if a Paypal dispute comes through, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

          • +1

@nomoneynoproblems: Didn't get the fee refunded, but managed to squeeze out a $30 ebay voucher after about 20 mins of arguing with the chat support. They're super stuck up about the T&C's

        • +1

Yep, I fall in to that basket. I was spewing…

        • +1

Wow this prompted me to check just now, phew safe to July 2019!

          • +6

@Mikay89: You can cancel right now if you want.
You'll still have Plus benefits till July but will be assured that no further membership fee will be charged.

I got twice on a free Plus trial using various promos and always cancel it as soon as I sign-up for it. That way it's still fresh in my head.

            • @ginmi: Great idea, just cancelled it now :)
Whilst I do get the flybuys points, my ebay shopping has drastically reduced in recent times and usually most things I buy aren't Ebay plus items anyway.
I'll think about it later on again IF there is some major changes/re-work of the program.

        • They wouldnt accept cancellations either

        • I got my money back already for returning a DOA NAS.

    • Too little too late

  • +8

That's a good start. Now to find those mysterious Plus items that I don't need or want, but are 10% cheaper

    • Just make sure you check if the seller has a website (as many "Plus" merchants do). I found a few "bargains" and found it was still marginally cheaper to buy them direct, rather than on eBay, even with 10% off.

  • +15

    Lessons learnt.
Actually, there are two ways to advertise the plus membership:either make it more beneficial to members or exclude non-members from promotion.
Let me take a guess: less and less 10% off vouchers will be given to non-members in 2019.

    • +19

The thing is that eBay also excludes non-plus items from promotion so you don't get 10% off on all items even if you ARE a paying Plus member.

eBay really need to stop mucking around:

Either they throw everything (including the kitchen sink a.k.a free/heavily discounted Stan) into the plus program and start offering paying customers REAL value (like Amazon does with their Prime program) or they give up on a paid customer loyalty program altogether.

eBay doesn't have a Plus equivalent in any of the other markets they operate in (to the best of my knowledge at least) so enough with those stupid experiments in Oz and taking us all for mugs.

"If you want to shoot, SHOOT, don't talk" :)

      • +1

eBay doesn't have a Plus equivalent in any of the other markets they operate in

eBay Plus started in Germany first.

        • Do they still have Plus there?

More importantly, what do the Germans get for their membership dollars (or Euros to be exact :) )?

          • +1

            @ginmi: More Info: https://verkaeuferportal.ebay.de/ebay-plus-program-sellers-e…
If you need more info, google: eBay Plus Germany.

            • @netsurfer: So they basically get the same thing as Plus customers in AU but pay significantly less (20 Euros is around $32).

Plus was launched in Germany in 2015 and to-date, hasn't helped eBay gain ground on Amazon in that country or even increase market share amongst all the marketplace platforms operating in that country.

              https://ecommercenews.eu/the-most-visited-online-marketplace…

I can't in the life of me understand why eBay is trying the same thing here. Haven't they heard of Einstein's definition of insanity? ;)

              • +2

@ginmi: It makes sense in both Germany and here. In Germany, eBay Plus there has SLA requirements - that basically is telling the customer that you can get the same type of fast delivery service on eBay Germany for eBay Plus items. Here, the SLA is not enforced as Amazon AU offering for Prime here isn't the same as Amazon Germany or USA.

                For eBay Plus here:

                1. All return postage would be paid either by the seller or eBay.
                2. There are eBay Plus items where postages are paid by eBay. While sellers have been cautious - i.e. not to abuse it to upset eBay nowadays, some are still taking advantage of it (and this does translate to savings to us).
                3. Some of the eBay Plus items can have codes stacked up. So, if you bought eBay credit voucher with $5 or $10 off previously. With this 10% off, you are most likely able to stack that voucher code with this code.
                4. Part of this is to entice top rated sellers to stay on eBay. In AUS, you can tell a lot of big sellers have eBay stores, but no Amazon stores yet.
                5. eBay Plus did have a special Saturday event where people got bargain deals on Nintendo Switch and Samsung Galaxy S9 etc… Also, we don't know what eBay have in mind for May / June this year (that's when normally sellers come out with discounts - end of financial year sales).
                6. How about the Google Home Mini offer when signing up for eBay Plus

Sure, Amazon Prime is better and in the long run, Amazon AU will most likely win, eBay cannot afford to do nothing, hence eBay Plus.

Lastly, these eBay deals are happening so often now (pretty much weekly or fortnightly). True, a lot of them are not impressive but you cannot fault eBay for keep trying. I don't know about you, but when I needed an item last week, eBay with their average discount code was the best deal I was able to get - so to be something happening regularly is better than nothing.

                • @netsurfer:

when I needed an item last week, eBay with their average discount code was the best deal I was able to get

Agree 100% with you on that one.

For pretty much anything, eBay AU is still cheaper than Amazon AU (whether you are or aren't a Plus member).

They also have a price beat guarantee on pretty much anything sold by all major online stores in Australia (Including Amazon AU).

                  Don't get me wrong:
I love eBay and how we can all save money through them (especially given their entire global catalogue continues to be available to Aussies).
I'm just saying that their Plus program is crap in its current form and not only is it not working, it actually tarnishes the reputation of their brand in Australia.

                  • -1

                    @ginmi:

I'm just saying that their Plus program is crap in its current form and not only is it not working, it actually tarnishes the reputation of their brand in Australia.

Speak for yourself. As I've mentioned in eBay Plus related comments previously, I'm someone who's actually benefited from eBay Plus and have made back my annual subscription fee several times over in Flybuys points alone.

While eP obviously doesn't suit everyone and their buying habits, to write it off as "crap" and "not working" because it doesn't suit you or isn't the same as Amazon Prime is a bit short-sighted. What might be "crap" for you is great for me - does that mean eP itself is crap. or just that some buyers will benefit from it more than others depending on what and how frequently they buy?

                    • +1

@dm01: "Speak for yourself. As I've mentioned in eBay Plus related comments previously, I'm someone who's actually benefited from eBay Plus and have made back my annual subscription fee several times over in Flybuys points alone."

Flybuys points have a general value of 0.5c each. Assuming you got the discounted membership fee of $29.00, and as you said several times = assumption 3 x the membership fee, and as plus gives you an extra 0.5 point per dollar, that means $5800 to make $29.00 of flybuys points. So you spent about $17,400 on ebay to make that value in flybuys points.

Sure, if you're putting that much through, then ebay plus makes sense. Any loyalty program becomes more worthwhile the more you spend. But for the average Joe, they're not spending that much on ebay so the benefit is very different.

                      • @odysseus: You've forgotten the 5x, 6x, and 10x Flybuys points promos that have occurred since eBay Plus started - time your purchases right and you don't need to spend all that much to cover your membership fee via Flybuys, and if you score free shipping a couple of times you're closer still.

      • -1

        This.

    • Let me take a guess: less and less 10% off vouchers will be given to non-members in 2019.

I just used a 10% off voucher a week ago (non-feeBay Plus member). Then, I used another 5% off voucher yesterday. Both transactions were for the same item (but different sellers). Care to guess which one I actually paid less overall?

It was the 5% off one because the price of the item is much lower to start with. These 10% off (and even 20% off) vouchers aren't always that great because if you caved in to buy an item to take advantage of 10% or 20% off, rather than it is at a bargain price, you may actually be worse off in the long run. Put it this way, even if there were no 5% off voucher yesterday, I would have bought the item yesterday anyway (because without discount, it was still much cheaper).

Besides, we are OZBers, if we have to, we will just create another feeBay account and sign up for the feeBay Plus trial.

  • +13

Too bad a majority of plus items in my cart/watch list are now no longer plus items

    • +34

They’ll be plus items again from the 18th.

  • -4

That’s a great post! Even better that there are no silly min spending conditions. Petty I bought everything I needed at 20% off for everyone in the past few months.

    • The offer entitles you to 10% off the purchase price (excluding postage costs) on all eBay plus items listed on www.ebay.com.au except the Excluded Items when you spend $75 or more in one transaction during the Offer Period, up to a maximum discount of $100 per transaction.

  • Lol too late for damage control now ebay!!

  • Now they just need to get rid of these restrictive max discounts

  • where's the site wide sale!!!

  • -2

The code isn't ready yet.. I got this msg

    • same, normally they start at 10am, so i assume this will be the same.

    • It isn't 10AM AEDT time yet, unless you have a time machine. 15 Feb 10:00am–17 Feb 11:59pm

  • +5

This deal might be useful for some, but eBay should've just extended their 10% off sitewide promotion instead of this Plus Items rubbish.

  • is there a way to check if the code works before buying something even if the item is not in the exclusion list and is more than $75 in price?

    • Just add to cart as if you were buying then add promo code at checkout

  • +1

Ah so this is their plan to earn money. Lowered min spend, but only for Plus members.

  • +2

So this basically just replaces the site wide 10% PLACE10 code https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/437256 which was available to everyone but now with slightly different conditions for eBay plus members?

This basically just highlights that being an eBay plus member isn't so special, should have been something like 15% off

    • Not really. The number of plus items is extremely limited, including excluding everything outside Australia. Far different from a sitewide code.

      • +1

But at least now car parts are not excluded.

    • +5

Hell hath no greater fury than an OzBargaining eBay-plus subscriber!

      • +2

God forbid someone actually benefiting from their membership, right?

    • How ironic

  • How do you know if an item is a plus item?

  • +6

    The code should be PUSSYSALE

    • +1

Although that's offensive to pu$$y's … a pu$$y in any shape form or meaning wouldn't want to be associated with the sham that is eBay Plus! ;)

  • Can anyone tell me why I cant use any codes for a bicycle? This 10% code or the 5% code wont work for any bicycle?

I understand it excludes bikes but I thought that would be motorbikes why exclude bicycles?

    Thanks
    Brendan

      • -1

Why give me the link to ebay plus bicycles I've already tried all that?

My point is that they dont allow the code to be applied for buying a bicycle, I cant understand why they void bicycles. I can see why they do cars, motorbikes but a bicycle?

    • Maybe because some bikes are the price of cars

  • +1

The code doesn't appear to work on car parts either. Trying to buy a set of floor mats, to no avail.

    • Same here. I'm on the chat with eBay plus customer service now trying to resolve it… or at least get a voucher for my troubles

    • +1

Yep same here - was looking at a new tow bar and no discountarooni!!

      • Just had a chat with one of their customer support staff. It appears Ebay updated their excluded items list to exclude car parts as well. Pretty poor form!

  • +1

Thanks all - completely forgot I'd signed up for a 30 day trial to get the last 10% discount … and only had three days before I was to be charged. eBay Plus is a giant crock of $hit - not worth paying for, and this "deal" is almost the same … discount only applies to Plus flagged items, so it's dependent on the seller giving a crap about the Plus program and flagging their items as part of it. If it was 10% discount SITE WIDE for Plus members only, that might be a different story.

  • Any good TV deals anyone?

    • +1

Not at a $100 discount. Cap lol

  • +5

How is this a deal you're paying for a membership and they still have a min spend and cap on the amount, this is beyond silly..

  • I’m confused, where is the bargain?

    • Find one, then post it on OzB for all to see.

  • +2

Seems that the code is working for non-plus items aswell

    • Confirmed. Just bought some LED panel lights that aren't 'plus' items. 10% code worked. But I am a plus member.

  • I've got my moneys worth from paying $29(special price) for eBay Plus. I've bought a few sale items, got free delivery on other items.
Also you get much better support on eBay Plus if you have any issues as a seller or buyer. I will definitely be paying for another year.
In fact I think eBay Plus is around a year old now, so eBay will be getting a good idea on how much people like eBay Plus by how many people re-subscribe.

    • Yes the buyer support is excellent.
I raised a dispute with a seller, who sent me a locked phone.
      I was refunded immediately.

      • There must be different buyer support for plus. I had to chase things with their support for a month before finally getting the refund I was owed.

      • did you have to return the item? :P

  • -1

Any plus flagged Ipad on sale?

  • +1

Yep code seems to be working for non plus items, but not for Car Parts which isn't meant to be excluded - well done eBay!

  • Time to look for an NVME SSD

  • can you buy an item then signup and use the coupon code to pay?

    • Yeah, sign up for free trial if you can, then pay for item with coupon

  • Thought I had plus from the November 90 day trial from last year but apparently not. Oh well.

  • Sweet, 2 more days left on my trial. Time for one last hoorah ;)

  • Just got off the phone with Ebay Plus for car parts and they said it's a glitch in the system as the 'code' is still being worked across Ebay. Was told to do my checkout in about 2-3hrs.

  • The only reason I was able to use this code was because it's working for non-plus items too. Without this, the minimum spend on this code is a joke!

If I'm paying a membership fee, minimum spend shouldn't exist. Or it should be $25, no more.

  • +1

Thanks Op, I know there are a lot of haters of eBay Plus but for the products I buy (Pop Vinyl), it has been great value as I've saved hundreds during the year just on items with free Plus postage and hassle free returns process. Also I think the eBay Plus support is fantastic resolving most issues I've had quickly.

That's just my experience and the products which I buy which generally the postage is 2/3 of the cost of the product. I agree that there should be a few more perks or 'exclusive' deals but I guess the value of eBay Plus is probably more dependant on what you buy.

    • +1

Agree. Gets a lot of hate but there's been a lot of times where say I'm after Binders, pages, sleeves etc and they're all about the same price, and I end up getting one for $8~ cheaper due to free post with eBay plus. If there were more 15% off codes I'd sign up without hesitation.

    • -3

It's just you. That's a pretty rare use case.

Service is fine whether you are a plus member or not. That isn't a point of differentiation.

      • -1

        I've noticed a difference.

    • Would've saved even more if you didn't buy anything

  • can't seem to get it to work for collectables category.
must also be an exclusion they haven't listed

  • Does it work on eBay Gift Cards or Woolies vouchers?

  • Code has stopped working for me period now.

  • Not working for me….
