Vodafone Australia is promoting a new offering to customers who sign up to its Vodafone Premium NBN plan(89$/month) with the promise of a bonus Vodafone TV and Google Home Mini valued at over $150.

The telco said the Vodafone Premium plan’s typical busy speeds of 83Mbps and attributed

Terms and conditions of Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub:

The total maximum cost of the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub Modem (‘Modem’) is $180. There is no option to purchase the Modem outright or on a monthly payment plan. The Modem cost equates to $5 per month (‘Undiscounted Price’) over 36 months or $0 per month (‘Discounted Price’) if you stay connected for 36 months (‘Device Period’). The Discounted Price will appear as a credit on your monthly bill.

If you choose to cancel your plan before the end of the Device Period you will need to pay the full Undiscounted Price x months remaining on Device Period. This remaining Modem cost will be applied as a lump sum on your final bill. You must connect for a minimum of one month. Recurring monthly plan fees are charged until the end of the month in which you notify that you wish to cancel. You will be charged for using your plan from the point of nbn™ activation at your premises.

      It does not look like a contract for connection, but only on the cost of the modem.
      According to their T&C they charge $180 for the modem, so if you cancel before 36 months they will require you to pay the remaining months x $5

    36 Month Plan… PASS !
    If you want to leave you have to pay $180 for the crappy modem
    Stick to Aussie BB way better speeds and Month to Month

      Read more carefully please. It's only a contract for the modem, not the plan. Most you'd be out of pocket if you didn't go with them would be $180. Seems pretty good considering the modem even has backup 4G.

        Im on nbn and mine doesn't have 4g backup so its pretty pointless for most people if you have a decent service provider…

          You're being ridiculous. Every NBN node has downtime at some stage so it's absolutely not pointless. There's also the fact that Aussie BB charge $10 extra for the 100mb plan, so this is $10/month cheaper, comes with a modem and a Google home mini and whatever the hell Vodafone TV is.

          I'm with Aussie BB, I'm happy with them, but I'm absolutely considering this offer.

            @nardz: Im being ridiculous ??? LOL okay the only downtime I've had is at it at midnight if they're scheduling work and get an email before hand.. guess the big guys need 4g backup because its less reliable you go to Vodafone then

              @solidussnake: That's average peak speeds. And any router worth it's salt with decent QoS will likely limit you to 85% capacity during peak anyway to manage network responsiveness and prevent bufferbloat.

      I had nbn in Auckland CBD 15yrs ago. Moved to Adelaide suburbs. Still another 12 months till I might get nbn. But it seems like they are working on it. The net dropping out a lot more often, so I had it upgraded to the new Telstra modem with 4g backup. Solid as gold

      It could be worse. Apparently I'm never getting NBN, because my house is in a Telstra Velocity area. NBN rollout webpage says "Fibre is already available in this area. Telstra Velocity delivers the fibre network to this area". So the "National" Broadband Network isn't truly national, and it looks like it never will be.

      Years ago, Labor made noises like they were going to buy the Velocity network from Telstra. That fell through and my area is still in limbo. No cheap NBN plans for me!

      I've been on their mobile service for 4+ years. Only lose reception when you're going real rural. No issues whatsoever otherwise.

        So you get data all the time? The best examples I have going from Optus/Vodo to Telstra tick is having reception in my underground carpark, having usable data at Central station in sydney at peak hour, and when driving syd-bris I get data 90% of the way compared to 50% - whenever I got stuck in traffic accidents I usually didn't have data on optus/voda. Also the speed I get at home is 50-60Mbps on Telstra, while optus/voda would vary hugely between 10-40.

    It's a step in the right direction but I can't help feeling its a tad expensive still. Maybe that's just the OzBargain in me…

    The 50/20 is slightly better at $69/month. But that 36 month modem contract kills it, there's a very slim chance I'd be with 1 RSP for 36 months in today's climate.

        I understood the contract terms, this month I need to leave ABB because my 6 month trial period is up and their regular price is a bit rich for me. $69 is what I pay currently so I could switch over and have the added benefit of 4G backup. It's tempting.

        But then there is Exetel 12 month contract 50/20 unlimited for $59/month. Outages so far haven't been a thing for me so whether I need 4G backup is debatable.

    Pfff for $1 more I don't have a contract and have peak speed average of 90Mbps. In reality its higher including to London, Singapore & LA

                @onlinepred: 1ms to google.com.au ? You live in their DC?

                I live in Melb, the Google DC is in Sydney believe, so it's barely possible for light to get to Syd in 3ms, let alone a ping to go there & back.

                Maybe you'd like to test something outside your Google DC to see what it is.

                    @onlinepred: Well you're obviously you're using some sort of advanced Quantum network, since in traditional physics it's impossible for a ping to do a 1500km round in 3ms.

                    Care to copy & paste a tracert of what server you're pinging? Because I'd love to see what faster then light network route you're using.

                      @[Deactivated]: 3ms (915 km at 300,000 km/s). What maths are you using? 3ms is entirely possible. Also Brisbane to Sydney is less than 1000km's, it's closer to 900km.

                      I'm in Sydney so tracert won't help you much.

                        @onlinepred: I'm using ping maths, it's a return journey hence the 1500km (Briz is about 750km as the crow flies)

                        And the tracert will help because you're either using a Quantum Network or you're making it up.

                        I reckon you're unable to get outside your ISP's backhaul in 3ms.

    No love for those stuck on 25Mbps.. Must find some OzEmail piracy CDs to grind into pixie dust to improve my connection.

    Vodaphone TV+Google home is great, but 3 yr contract (for the modem)!

    Modem is not so great. Only 100Mbps ports (not all traffic is internet), only 32 devices (I have cut down to 40) and poor wifi. (and only USB2)

    I have just signed up for this service - by bundling my and my partner's mobile services we get 10% off all services, which seemed like a good deal. I also liked the 4G backup service they provide - I work from home so a reliable internet service is essential.
    Initially I wasn't going to sign up for the Premium Plan (which included the Vodafone TV and the Google Home) but the person I was speaking to pointed out that I could change the plan at any time for free so… I can sign up for 1 month of Premium, get the Vodafone TV and Google Home for free ($151 value) and then change back down to the Essential Plus plan and only pay 1 month's extra $18 for the Premium ($81/month) vs Essential Plus ($63/month) with the 10% bundling disount. Not a bad deal.
