Samsung DEX Pad EE-M5100 for Samsung Galaxy $59.06 Shipped (Korea) @ style9902_0 via eBay

PICK3

Ok, I've been monitoring this pad for a while on eBay and this is the cheapest it has come down to. Mine arrived today and I can affirm that it is a genuine Samsung product, complete with all accessories. Can post photos if required. I was waiting for it to be delivered to post the deal, just to be sure.

Have tried an Apple HDMI adapter and a cheap Chinese HDMI USB C dock with my Note 9. The Apple adapter seemed to work ok and the phone did not complain. The other adapter had problems with mouse connectivity and my phone complained about not using genuine Samsung products. However, I bought the original because it doesn't make sense to screw up a $1500 phone to save some money by buying a cheap dock.

Works great and I can run Linux on Dex very well.

RRP $149, grab yourself a bargain for almost one third of the price!! Slightly cheaper with coupon code PICK3
Shipped from South Korea so comes with an international plug charger but Australian plug adapters abound on eBay. Shipping times are are reasonable. I ordered mine on 3rd Feb and it as delivered today.

Specs:
Equipped with a USB C charging port, and HDMI port and two USB A ports. See Samsung's website or seller's description for more specs.

Mod, the quantity that I see at the time of this post is 8 but I have observed that this seller deliberately sets it low to ensure eBay attracts users to the "hurry, low in stock, almost sold out" product. The seller seems to have plenty of stock because during the last three months or so I haven't ever seen it go out of stock.

What's your use case for this? I'm trying to think of one, but can't think of much where a normal HDMI adapter suffices.

    • Connectivity of USB peripherals

      • Can't you just use a usb hub for this? My mate bought one from AliExpress for less than $30 and used it to connect everything to his note 9

    • Turn your phone into a quasi-PC with a desktop-ish interface.

It's not something I would want to do, but I do use Dex mode in my Tab S4 which is built in and doesn't require additional peripherals. It makes it feel like a laptop.

You do not need dex with note 9, it already works in dex mode with usc c to hdmi converter.

    Did I miss something?

    • This pad works with other Samsung phones/tablets too

A USB C to HDMI converter doesn't charge your phone, let you connect USB devices or use Dex.

Have a look at what Dex is as it is more than just mirroring your phone screen on another screen. It's like turning your phone into a PC.

      • yes but note9 works in dex mode without dock. the phone can turn into trackpad and keyboard input or use Bluetooth KB/mouse. dock is still better for a full use.

      • I guess I don't see myself ever needing my phone as a PC because that would require carrying a mouse/keyboard - which defeats the purpose. At work I have a computer, and at home I have many computers. Cool tech though!

At work we sell a proprietary software that utilises the dex to connect to your corporate windows environment. Get the app on your phone, plug it in to a screen and you have a whole PC in your pocket.

  • I tried Dex using a cheap USB hub. I found that dex was very unstable and apps would crash all the time and stop responding. Felt very buggy. It is an awesome concept but it's a shame about stability.

Do you think it could have been a result of using a cheap cable?

    • Probably it's the cable's issue.

      • Yeah hard to tell. I should try again with a simple HDMI to USB C adaptor and use Bluetooth devices

I use Dex with a $50 USB C hub and never had an issue (Note 9)

@OP might get less confusion if you remove Note 9 from title, given it's currently the only Samsung phone with dockless DeX already built in. The dock is still great for S9 / Note 8 users though.

  • Keeping an eye on this for a while but looking at comments there seems to be some cheaper and reliable alternatives. Any recommendations please? Please provide links, Thanks

  • Awesome, good deal

  • Genuine Dex Pad also has a fan to help with overheating. Comes with fast charger too.

    • I was wondering which one this was. The old style dock had a fan too didn't it? Dex pad and dex….? 🤔

Also showing as 3 in stock and at $55.xx (edit: just saw the below comments, + tax). for me. Strange.

      • Yeah both the upright and flat style has a fan

  • Just bought! 1 left!

  • +1

I'm seeing it's now 55.20 without code and 9 in stock.

    • When you check out, the taxes take it up to $59.06

  • Back in stock

    • Thanks got one in time. 2 left at time of restock.

  • I still managed to get one?
    they must have added stock.

    • I have observed that this seller deliberately sets it low to ensure eBay attracts users to the "hurry, low in stock, almost sold out" product.
