1690

You can preorder the S10 128gb at Woolworths. Free Samsung Galaxy Buds worth $250. The cheapest plan is $65.78 which gives you unlimited calls/sms and 3gb. However when signing up you get 15 gb bonus data. You then get another 20gb every 3 months (they call it school holidays bonus), but you need to add it manually. The data rolls over and is kept in a bank up to 100gb. Hence you would have approximately 10gb a month with the bonuses. If you finish all the data internet stops, but you can decide to add on 1gb @$10.

Also you can add unlimited International calls to 10 countries + 300min to 21 countries for $5. It used to be $15 few weeks ago now reduced to 5.

Check here about the bonus data https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/offers/bonus-holiday-data.h…

Don’t forget $50 cash back via Cashrewards.

Overall cost $1578.72 ($1528.72 if you count cashback)

If you are willing to pay $75,78 you will get 10gb data plus the other bonuses (which will take to approximately 17gb a month).

          • @fozzie: Can you also claim TRS if paying monthly?

  • Do these pre-order plans include the ear buds that Samsung mentions or is that only for outright purchases from Samsung?

    • +1

Free Samsung earbuds are included here

  • I think earbuds are free with all pre orders.

  • Cashrewards offering $50 for signing up

  • Is it just me or I can't login to the Woolworths mobile site? it says unfortunately we are unable to verify your login details. Please try again.

  • Does woolworths offer insurance on this phone or some type of protection as an option?

    • +3

Get an amex essentials card, even if it's just the minimum credit limit of $1000 and pay your bill with it. The card includes phone screen insurance it's great, I made a claim on it with my S8+ and it's painless.

      • Will these guys give you warranty if you buy the phone plan with them?

        • Yes, All thats required is 2 months of the bill to be paid with the Amex card. so you don't even need it right now you can get the phone on this plan (or any other) with whatever card you have now and then update the payment to the amex card when you get it and then after two bills have been paid on it the phone is now covered.

      • +1

+1 for that. Claimed the screen insurance on my woolies S8. 10% excess for a screen replacement from Samsung Authorised Repair using genuine parts is definitely worth it ($395 if no insurance). No risk of compromised waterproofing when you get it done by some random repairer.

I've preordered the s10+ from woolworths, seems by far the best deal at the moment. 3gb with the bonuses is plenty for me. 100mbit nbn at home for WiFi and even better internet at work (uni campus) and then I drive to work so don't use any data on commute either… I average like 2gb max per month.

The last time I’ve signed up to a 24m handset plan was for my iPhone 4 at release. I’ve always been one to go the ‘buy outright + prepaid’ option but this is tempting.

    Breakdown of costs for S10+
    - $72.03 x 24m = $1728.72
    - Comparable $25 p/m 10GB plan (Telechoice) = $600 over 24months
    - Samsung Galaxy Buds = $249 RRP
    - Total cost for phone ($1728.72 - $600 - $249) = $879.72

Based on this, if I exclude the earphones, that’s $1128 for the S10+.
I doubt anyone will be able to find any eBay or OW PB deals around the time of release that comes close.

Coming from an iPhone 6 since release, I think it’s time to move on from Apple. If I don’t like it, I can sell off the phone/earphones, make a small profit and be stuck on a 24 month plan with my dying iPhone.

Please correct my calcs to convince me otherwise :)

    • Sounds right.

But go 36mths - no downside (see my post below).

      • I checked.
Phone ends up being cheaper by ~$60 (phone outright) for a 36m contract. I’d say the early exit fee at 24m will be more than what I’d save. Also considering by the end of 24m I’ll be itching to upgrade my plan for more data.

        • $60 cheaper, but also a year of extra phone/data for the same price on 36mths, even if you want to buy a new phone outright and use same sim.
I didn't read there was an exit penalty.

          • @lonepine: Sorry, you're right.
            Definitely go with 24mth plan.

    • Just a note, those buds are not worth $249. That's the RRP, but a bunch of people are about to offload them onto ebay and Gumtree. If you're trying to sell them, I doubt you can get that much for them.

      • They are set to retail at $129 USD. Definitely not worth $249.

        • +2

Stick a piece of Chupa Chup stick on to each one and spray them white, they'll double in value.

  • -1

This deal was posted 27 mins after I posted the correct info in the other deal. Cmon fozzie - give credit were it’s due. At least mention the original deal…..

  • Very very tempting.

And 24mth and 36mth contract costs are identical.

Go for 36mths, but simply pay out remainder if you want to get out early (so no downside, if I read contract right).

Go 3gb - with the bonuses it’s about 10gb (Except first 3 months where it will be about 7gb).
Switch plans up if you need more data.

    And its the Telstra network!

    • I'm a bit confused, how can 24m and 36m total cost be the same? 65 X 24 and 65 X 36? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

      • They lower the payment over 36 months… Why would anyone sign a longer contract for the exact same monthly fee.

        • +1

          Sorry, you're correct. Go 24mths

They write: "Total minimum cost $1,368.92" on both plans, but that is for phone and not plan.

    • The $12xx final fee (for example s10e) stated is confusing as heck. That should be the cost of phone only.

Its actually (in the case of s10e) $46 over 36mnth = $16xx or $59 over 24mnths = $14xx. The difference is $239.88 which over 12mnths is exactly $19.99, the cost of the monthly plan.

That means the final cost of phone is the same, but the 36mnth plan makes u pay for one more year to be stuck on the, by then outdated plan.

So unless u need to spread out the cost of the phone payments, it is cheaper (by 12x cost of monthly plan) on 24mnth plan.

      • But a 10g/ month plan isn't bad for $20,right?

    • @lonepine are there any additional termination fees?

      • "If you cancel your Plan, there are no early termination charges. However:

        a) you will need to pay the Minimum Monthly Charge and any outstanding charges owing on your Plan; and

        b) all outstanding charges and unpaid instalments under your Handset Payment Plan will immediately become due and
        payable."

  • +1

With these plans, once you go over your data limit, it states something like 10 bucks for 1gb. is it possible to setup so, when you go over, it just stops ?

    • +2

      I would assume so.

I think I have the same deal on my S8. When I run out of GB, I just lose access to the internet.

      • +2

Yep, can second this. Currently with woolies on my S8+ and when you reach the data limit the internet cuts off. You have to manually purchase additional data ($10 per gb from memory)

        • Good to hear, i prefer having the option to make that decision about purchasing excess data, rather than being auto billed. This deal is looking better.n I have an old crappy s5 been wanting to upgrade for a while.

          • @oldschool75: Ooh, a 5 year jump in model. Those old phones are hard to bear now.

Surprised your battery lasted that long.

            • @lostn: Yeah battery died about a year ago, bought a cheap replacement off ebay :D but yeah i think its time to crack open the wallet and get something a little newer

              • @oldschool75: You won't be able to replace the battery yourself anymore. All new phones are not designed to be user serviceable. Ostensibly to be made water proof, but the real winner is the manufacturer who now gets to charge you a lot of money for a battery replacement.

            • @lostn: After my nexus 6p died in December i started using my wife's galaxy note 4, slapped a new case, 128GB micro SD card and battery on it along with Nova Launcher and custom app skin, now is not that far off from my nexus. Works fine although can be a little slow at times, otherwise it's working fine for Web browsing, email, pictures, videos and YouTube. Although I'm holding out to see what the Pixel 4 XL looks like before i upgrade later this year.

    • +1

U must pay to get more data if u used up all the months quota, data bank and any of the "holiday" data if youve activated one for that month. Otherwise will just cut u off.

    • This phone like many others except Apple has a mobile data limit that can be set under your data settings. You can set your 30 day billing cycle start date, set a data warning and a data limit cut off. Feature has been around for years and is one of the many reasons I will never have an iPhone as my primary handset as this is not an option in IOS

      • Wow. I did not know that. But iOS is missing a lot of useful features from Android so it doesn't surprise me.

  • +1

Was going to post this exact deal, but have been too busy and was going to leave it till tomorrow. Glad someone else has, I think it's a great deal.

    • Coincidentally was lookin at it 8am today not realising the plans were only just released.

  • +1

Can you port existing numbers from other carriers to Woolworths Mobile and get this deal?

    • +1

I don't see why you can't. I ported in from Optus back when I pre-ordered my S8 plus with woolies.

    • +1

Yes you can, I just ordered one and at the last step of ordering, there is an option to "Choose New Number" (they give list of 10 numbers to choose from) and "Port Existing Number". Hope this helps.

      • Did the port happened from when you place the order or when you received the phone? My contract with optus ends on 4th March so i want to leave it as close as possible to that date before porting over

        • I am assuming it will happen when you activate the service. I got a new number so wont be able to confirm this.

          • @maximus117: Thanks guys for your reply. I have ask woolworths. Porting will happen once you receive the phone and sim card, upon activation of the sim

        • back then when I signed up for the S8 the porting was done upon activation of SIM card i.e. it happens when you receive th estimate (and phone). IIRC the porting would be processed automatically 7 days after delivery if it wasn’t done by then.

  • +3

For those re-contracting with WW Mobiles, they're waiving the early termination cost for those with 60 days or less on their contract. It actually waives it for people who are not yet under 60 days, but pretty close to it too!

    • Do you have to ask for this over the phone, or when you signup it will ask you and identify your existing contract?

      • would also like to know this - my contract ends on May 7 so it'll be pretty much 2 months by the time the phone is released.

edit - i tried to sign in and upgrade my current plan but it still shows me the termination fee payable.

        • +2

It is waived mate, click through to the next page after it shows your ETC and you'll see it's removed.

          • @Binchicken22: Thanks…i was reluctant to click that button which says recontract

            • +1

@Aemit: Yeah it's a strange way of doing it. I only knew to do that because the Woolworths rep posted on Whirlpool forums.

            • @Aemit: Is that the last stage, or can you back out of it at that stage still?

Id like to look into it myself too.

              • +1

@2023: The ETC waiver is displayed on the same page where you enter the details to do the ID check, so yes, you can still back out.

          • @Binchicken22: Thanks mate, I will give this a shot later today. Very odd way to do it indeed.

      • +1

I rang em up yesterday and they said they will waive it if i order over the phone…i said i will have a look which one i want n ring em up…

  • I am currently on a Woolies pre-paid plan. I have 35Gb in my data bank. If I sign up to this S10 deal, I wonder if Woolies will let me keep my 35Gb AND add on the 15gb sign-up data?

    • Hi - yes when moving from Prepaid to Postpaid, you get to keep any data already in your Data bank. And yes you'll get your 15GB activation bonus too. Cheers, Rod

      • Thanks Rod!!

      • Hi Rod, i am currently with optus. If i order the phone today and want to keep my existing number, when will the porting happen? Would i be able to set a future date for the port to happen??

  • Extra $15 pm ($360 total) to upgrade to 512GB.

Anyone know if this model will have dual sim? Normally contracted phones don't want you inserting someone else's sim card in with it.

    • I believe only the S10+ (512 gb) is dual sim - https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/mobile-phones/samsung-mobil…

      • -1

        Hmm. That one is expensive.

My S8 is good enough to use for another year. I'd only be tempted by dual sim.

To be honest, this is the first even-numbered S series phone that feels like an incremental upgrade. Their odd numbered phones are normally the incremental upgrades. The even numbered ones introduce pretty big new designs. Samsung runs on Intel's old tick-tock schedule.

For this one, you're basically getting finger print scanner on the screen and a distracting hole camera for slightly smaller bezels. And reverse qi charging which is probably going to not work very well.

        • +4

And the triple Camera system, double the ram previous models, double the storage, significantly bigger batteries… plus the stuff you've already mentioned. If you think this is an "incremental" upgrade you haven't really been following phones in the last few years and I think you'll be pretty disappointed when the S11 Comes out…

          • @Binchicken22: Those are precisely incremental upgrades.

Whenever you take a spec and increase it (e.g. amount of RAM, amount of storage, amount of lenses, amount of mAh) that is not innovation. That is an incremental update. You're not doing anything new. You're just adding more of what was already there. Adding something new that wasn't previously there in a smaller amount, e.g. a new body design, removal of buttons, IP67, reduction of bezels, etc, that is not incremental. One day someone will add a 4th and 5th camera lens, but that's not innovation or new. More of something will always be just an incremental upgrade. Take something that was already there and add +1 = increment. One day someone will have 24GB RAM, and 16 core CPU. But those are all things under the hood. You can't see what's new when you pick up the handset and examine it. When you picked up an S8 you could clearly see what is different from S7. You could not do the same when you compared an S7 to an S6.

The S6 is quite a step up from the S5. The S6 finally ditched plastic, went all metal with a glass case, increased resolution from FHD to QHD to an unprecedented 570 ppi. This is a new design. Also introduced the edge display.

The S7 is just an S6 with a faster processor. Body is almost the same. That's an incremental upgrade.

The S8 is a new design. The buttons are gone and replaced with nearly no bezels. The phone became longer and aspect ratio is 18:9 as opposed to 16:9. The smaller sized S8 is the same diagonal length as the S7+, same size screen without making the phone bigger because the bezels got reduced. This is a truly big leap because a screen to body ratio like this hadn't been done before. It allowed a screen to be bigger without the body being bigger. Or the same size screen to have a smaller body.

S9 is just an S8 with an updated processor and camera. That's an incremental upgrade. You would have to squint to notice it's a different phone.

The S10 is.. an S9 with a hole camera and a fingerprint scanner on the screen (admittedly a cool feature). But it looks more or less the same. If the hole camera meant no forehead and chin, I'd call it different enough to be new. But you still have a chin and forehead that isn't that much smaller than previous gen.

Samsung's odd numbered phones were like Apple's S series (4S, 5S, 6S, XS). Incremental update over the previous gen. The even numbered ones were like Apple's non-S series (4, 5, 6, X though not 8 which is really a 7S). In other words a major redesign.

With all incremental updates, the new features are almost entirely software based.

I do not believe the S10 is innovative like the S8 or S6 were. I do not think the hole is a better solution than the notch, and I hate the notch, but at least you can hide the notch on an Android. The hole does not sit in the very corner or edge of the screen, so you have some screen border around it which makes it impossible to hide, and its diameter is wider than the notch's. This makes it very distracting, especially when watching video. In their promo videos, they are playing video on the S10 and the Samsung logo in the corner is being cut off by the hole cam. The content is ignoring the existence of the hole. I get a feeling you will have a lot of apps that also ignore the hole and will get cut off by it.

Other phone manufacturers have managed to make a bezelless phone with no hole and no notch. Samsung's S10 has a hole, and is still not bezelless. You have a chin and forehead still, so what did we even gain in return for that distracting hole?

            • +1

@lostn: I would argue that the added camera features, optical lossless zoom, wide angle and "night sight" high quality low light photography are a bit more than incremental. Same with doubling the ram, I realise that it was always going to happen and it will continue to grow, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't make a big difference going from an S9 with 4GB to an S10 with 8GB, it absolutely will.

I don't really have time right now, as I'm typing this on my S8, to get my full point across about the rest of the features right now but I'll once again leave it with, if you think this is an incremental update you will be sorely disappointed in the S11, as it will almost definitely retain the same "infinity O" display, 8GB ram etc. It will most likely just get a CPU bump, UFS 3.0 storage and a slight camera bump (but still retain the 3 lense setup).

              • -2

                @Binchicken22:

I would argue that the added camera features, optical lossless zoom, wide angle and "night sight" high quality low light photography are a bit more than incremental.

Cameras get better every year. It's part of the annual phone update cycle just like the CPU. It is to be expected and nothing out of the ordinary.

Since you seem triggered by the word 'incremental', I'll use a different word for you: iterative.

Odd numbered releases are iterative. Add more of what was already there.

Even numbered releases are innovative. Not necessarily doing something that's never been done before, but adding new features not previously seen in the Galaxy S series.

Iterative vs innovative. S10 is mostly iterative.

I realise that it was always going to happen and it will continue to grow, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't make a big difference going from an S9 with 4GB to an S10 with 8GB, it absolutely will.

The way Android handles RAM, the thing doesn't come to a screeching halt and start thrashing when you run out of memory like Windows would. It intelligently unloads from memory things you weren't using for a while. Remember, we once had 1GB and 512MB RAM phones, and all was fine. It only becomes an issue if you are simultaneously using a ton of apps and switching between all of them equally. That isn't me.

if you think this is an incremental update you will be sorely disappointed in the S11

I already expected to be disappointed with S11. S11 is after all an odd-numbered release. I wasn't expecting to be disappointed with this year's phone though. I loved my S6 and S8. And my S4 which was one of the first 1080p phones, which at the time I thought was crazy on a 5" screen. I have low expectations for odd numbered releases, high expectations for even numbered releases. S10 feels like an odd numbered release. Same body and design, camera has moved to a hole, extra camera at the back, and a specs bump. The performance has increased due to its specs bump. But that's what we see every year and come to take for granted. I was hoping to be wowed.

as it will almost definitely retain the same "infinity O" display

It will take them at least 2 years to come up with a better solution than the O when others have a better solution now.

Just calling the display "infinity" triggers me, because it's not infinity. You have bezels at the top and bottom. Notched phones introduced a notch as the price for removing the bezels because there was nowhere else to put the sensors and lens. Samsung's solution was the O, but you still have the bezels. Why not just stick to the old design if you can't get rid of the bezels?

The rumor with the O was that the lens would sit under the screen and magically only appear when the camera is in use. When it's not, the O would somehow turn into the screen and you wouldn't even know the lens was there. That would have really impressed me but turned out to be a pipe dream.

if you think this is an incremental update you will be sorely disappointed in the S11, as it will almost definitely retain the same "infinity O" display, 8GB ram etc.

That seems like a safe prediction. If S10 offers RAM in 6/8/10/12GB options, I'm going to guess that S11 will offer them in 8/10/12/14GB options which is a bump, but for you might be considered more than incremental. To me, unless I see a new feature and not simply increasing the numbers, it's lacking in innovation. It's not reasonable to expect innovation every year, but every two years has been what we've been getting.. until now.

That is why I've been happy to be on even numbered cycles. It would suck to be on the odd numbered cycle. The guys on the even numbers get new features while you're on the old design for another year, and then you play catch up. That might all be ending.

Honestly, I was hoping the F would be the Galaxy 10 (X) as was initially rumored.

If bezelless and notchless was Samsung's end game, they've been beaten. They haven't got there still, and others have reached it a year ago. Bezelless, notchless, holeless. It's been done by Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo (all of them Chinese coincidentally). They had a better solution and for once didn't copy a non-Chinese.

                • +1

@lostn: I just don't understand how you qualify the S7 to S8 a huge upgrade, due to a 7 or 8% increase in screen to body ratio… But you don't qualify a 3 lens camera system offering lossless zoom and wide angle etc as a similar leap.

The logic just seems off to me.

And for the record the S9 - S10 is nearly a 5% increase in screen to body ratio anyway… On top of the rest, which I'd argue is actually a lot more than S7 - S8 which retained the same camera basically, the same amount of Ram, it really was just an increase in screen to body ratio and finger print sensor moving from front to back, which was hardly ground breaking or innovative.

            • @lostn: True, but hard to make earth shattering changes for each model.
Thats why you should always skip some models.
I have an S7, so makes a bigger difference for me.

              • @lonepine: I don't expect big changes for each model, but I do expect one for every second model.

I skipped S3, 5, 7, 9. Those ones are just spec upgrades of the previous year.

It's worked out well for me until now. I'm considering holding onto my S8 for a third year. It's a perfectly good phone with the only thing missing being dual SIM. But that will put me on the odd numbered cycle and next year's phone will likely be the same as this year's but with a faster CPU, slightly more RAM, and camera improvements (i.e. the incremental update when they can't think of anything new to add). Maybe I just leave Samsung for greener pastures?

                • @lostn: I have been eyeing the Pixel 3. Great camera software and stock Android, but specs a bit dated.

Or maybe the Huawei P20 Pro…

    • Agree. Screen protectors are a pain to install and tempered glass ones always lift due to how they are designed. Also if it's on the phone mount, can be hard to press anything that's too close to the clamps. If I upgraded I would go the 10e just for the flat screen again

        The S10e is not curved.

        • Exactly, that why I said if I upgraded i would go the 10e. Smaller size too which is good!

        • Are the others curved? Would like the S10 for the camera but 10e for the size and price.

      • I looked for screen protectors with my S8+, but didn't find any that were really good. Ended up going without a screen protector, and the screen is still looking good (even though I put the phone in my pocket all the time - just not with the keys, not that it would fit with them in anyway). I have good quality bumper case though, and the phone has survived unscathed despite dropping it onto stone once and concrete another time.

        • I just had to reinstall a hydrogel that lifted all along 1 curved edge. It lasted 2 whole days lol so took of the protector washed it under the tap, then decided, f it, the s9 is water resistant, so turned it off and stuck it under the tap and installed the protector under running water. Top half pushing bubbles out then lifted the bottom half and rolled it down squishing out the bubbles. It's actually installed perfectly now. Edge to edge and the tiny bubbles left have dried out already.

  • Dual SIM?

    • 512gb variant is dual sim - mentioned on the WW site

  • To clarify - for the S10 with 3GB/mth (but with bonus rolling data, ~10GB/mth)

Final phone only price is $1,099

RRP is $1339, so $240 savings for a new flagship mobile.

    Plus bonus earbuds if pre-ordered.

    • So if I cancel on the first month of the plan, how much will I have to pay on total?

      • I believe:

        "Total minimum cost $1,368.80"

        Otherwise $1578.72 for 24mths

    • Or $1049 with Cashrewards

  • +2

Pulled the trigger on an S10. My First phone on a plan! Was looking to upgrade my galaxy S6.

  • When is this deal ends? I have about 2 weeks left on my optus contract.?
I was planning to go prepaid, but this deal is the same as what i wás paying for my s7 monthly so too good to pass it. My brother will be happy to get the s7 hand down to him
