Well Hilton has never been my preferred point transfer for Amex points but given the Marriott devaluation this maybe useful to some, especially to people who are looking to book brand new super luxury Waldorf Astoria in Maldives. Lot of you maybe using these points for Krisflyer or other airline program but my sweet spot was the spg program.. booked some amazing hotels in Maldives, Mauritius, Disney etc..

With a hotel for every style, budget & occasion, Hilton Honors lets you transform points into memories you cant help but share- at more than 4,800 hotels and resorts worldwide.

    Fantastic…..not.

With my 200k of Amex points converted to 300k of Hilton……..I can get one(1) night at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort :(……and that’s a beach bungalow not over water

I would hope there are some better value options

    • I think you’re doing it wrong. You are looking at just converting dollars into points to pay for your room. You need to look for ‘reward nights’ or something to that effect. Doubt each night is 300k points

      • Your right, rookie error. 95000 pts a night, but no availability for 1 night (or 2) looking into the next year. Availability definitely a concern. Have seen some posts with the best $ value, will need to look for them.

You should be looking at the Waldorf Maldives which are 2k USD per night and 120k Hilton Honors points. That would be great value but with Amex I would aim for RTW with Sinngapore Airlines at 240k Krisflyer.

          • @nightelves: Seconded. This is not a very good use of 200k MR points - a SQ flight in first or business would yield better dollars : points

    • Top tier should be 95k per night and there used to be a 5th night free for reward stays. Not sure if that is still the case. Anyone know if it applies to David Jones amex?

      • Cheers…. 5th night free only for silver and above.

A standard room for ten nights is worth $2000 at the Hilton in Cape Town or 300k in points (30k/night). So my 200k Amex would be valued at 1cent per point for this reward.

Would love to see some better value that has some availability :). But like trying to find biz class on velocity to the US.

IMO - a terrible waste of Amex points, when better value can be had elsewhere. An example. 56000 Amex converted to KF will give you Melbourne to Singapore return in March at present (spontaneous escape). So at least 6cents of value per point.

Op, can you please provide us some basic examples? Ie 'x' Amex points / night in Maldives. Cheers

    • Well, you can easily do the maths yourself.

      • I have no idea about Hilton points and simply asked for 1 example they might know off the top of their head. Ie qantas melb adl 8000 pts +$25. Thanks coops and googoogaga.

    • From Feb 3rd- Feb 8th (5 nights)
Cash price aud7767.7 (USD $5534.7) after taxes (prepaid rate)

Points total for 5 nights 380,000, no taxes.
      MR pts required 253,334

      Making 1 = 3cents

      • You need silver status to get 5th night free. Are you sure that dates bookable!?

  • Here is a good guide to Hilton reward night value, https://www.valuepenguin.com/hilton-hhonors-rewards-program

Still not a good ratio even with the 50% bonus, you can easily buy Hilton points at 0.5 US cent per Hilton point during their 100% promos, so a transfer bonus of 50% means you are getting 0.75 US cent per Amex points, not the worst but certainly could do better.

  • In case anyone wants to get Hilton GOLD status - check out the deal HERE
You might be able to take advantage of 5th reward night free that way.

    • Was just reading up on this; if we are just a normal "member" tier at this stage, and did the fast-track with an eligible credit card and book a 5-night stay at a Hilton with points, will the 5th night be free, or is it effective only for the stay AFTER the initial one?

      • I reckon you'll have to obtain silver or gold status before you can get 5th night free on points redemption.

  • There also seems to be reoccuring problem getting the bonus 50 %. I got the run around when I tried this 2 years ago and it seems others have too. HH says it's an amex issue while Amex says it's HH's fault. I only transferred 2,000 and ended up forsaking the 1000 bonus. Emptor caveat.

  • seems like KF seems like better value for MR points, although don't see any travel in the immediate future.
