Consistently have the best $0 excess prices and I've used them every time I've traveled. Never had to claim though so no experience on that front.

  • I got a double cash back on Cash Rewards the other day 12% plus the 10% off

  • The numbers for everything are a bit higher with TID but I got my virgin travel insurance for 50% of the price. Even the most expensive package for Virgin is less than the basic package of TID. Not sure if they offer anything so special that it warrants paying double.

This is also the case with Budget direct who had comprehensive at lower than the base price from TID so went with them this time, i used to use TID for all our trips but they havent been as competitive the last few times I've traveled.

good luck trying to claim. i had an incident and the customer service was absysmal with lots of delays. after about 6 months it eventually got knocked back.

avoid anything from world nomads group/cerberus special risks - http://www.cerberusspecialrisks.com.au/

    • Why was it knocked back?

      • mopo just negs TID deals and never answers questions asked (like yours) about their denied claim.

I do note last TID post he negged that they stated that the process time was 3 months before it was refused.

negging in these situations should be accompanied by some substance.

        • i would give you the full story, however it has a lot of personal details. no thanks.

          • @mopo: not asking for the full story. just some sort of detail as to how and why your claim was refused.

    • Always read the PDS. Doesn't matter who you with, they can decline if its not a inclusion.

      • their pds is purposely worded so they can worm out of things. i go with more reputable travel insurance providers these days, like covermore. they are more expensive, but they actually work.

  • I recently looked into travel insurance for our upcoming trip to the UK and found TID prices to be around $300 for our family of four. Where as Budget Direct (15% off online quote) came in at $172 for their "equivalent" comprehensive cover with a $100 excess.
I was a user of TID in the past and was surprised their prices were this high - I suggest shopping around…

  • I did a claim with TID when I came back from NZ in October last year. Our flight was cancelled and our luggage went missing. I think it was 10 business days before the claim was assigned to someone. I got a call that day and all the claims were paid. Even our hotel room at the Novotel was all paid for. I was very happy. I have used this company for years and years and that's the first time I have had to do a big claim. A few years back I put a claim in for a doctors visit in Bali. Paid back into my account in less than a week. I just booked my travel insurance through them again. I don't even bother shopping around. Get a cheaper company and they might not even pay up. Go by word of mouth. That's how I found out about TID
*I also pick the no excess option

  • What about credit card complimentary overseas travel insurance. Don’t you people use it?

    • yeah, but if you want something extra (like complimentary domestic car rental excess coverage) then CC doesn't always cover everything.

      also excess amount.

      • CBA can add extra and Inc rental car excess. Having said that, I haven't had chance to claim yet. Thankfully. So can't comment on the claim process.

        • My friend called Comm Bank to confirm they had travel insurance on their gold credit card. They said yes. Her husband ended up in a car accident in a coma and broken ribs in Bali. Over 2 weeks in hospital. Bill came to about $30k. They refused to pay. The loop hole was that the trip cost less than $1,000. Bali is so cheap to fly to from Darwin. Beware of the 'free' travel insurance on your gold credit card! She hounded them for months and months. In the end they gave her $10k.

          • @koplik8: As they say, always read the PDS, there was a minimum spending limit while ago, they removed it. But now there is a open to add extras.
Even with paid insurance policies, you still need to read the PDS.
