  • And you'd buy this over an Xbox One S why…?

Smaller, less power, twin hdmi, you don’t game and want a quicker and simpler experience.

      • Twin hdmi doesn't matter, if you're running 4k you should have an amp, or a TV with arc.

Xbox One supports Dolby vision, the apps will see more frequent updates, the firmware will see more frequent updates, and for the same price you're buying a device which offers more flexibility.

Apparently Xbox has bad processing compared to dedicated blu-ray players.

        • Xbox One doesn't support Dolby Vision on Blurays, but it does through streaming. Though this Panasonic player doesn't support Dolby Vision blurays either.

          • @skrot: Ah cheers for clearing that up, was just a quick google

          • @skrot: Xbox One support for Dolby Vision on Blurays is coming soon. Well at least you know it will work in the coming future.

            • @hollykryten: Has that been confirmed recently? That post is quite old at this point. I couldn't find any more recent info with a quick search. I have an XBox One X as a bluray player so I do hope that it actually arrives.

              • @skrot: My bad. The web article may have been wrong.

It may be a licensing thing why Dolby Vision for Bluray support isn't included on the Xbox One. They probably have to pay extra for it a Bluray codec license.

It's probably some thing you'd find on higher end 4K Bluray players.

Twin hdmi is useful for all new early 4k devices that aren't hdcp 2.2

Every game console I've used has noisier disc drives too.

  • Does it have "Google Play Movies & TV" app?

  • Not sure about this player but the ub820 and 9000 handle HDR much better than any other 4k player atm.
