    Awesome! Getting on it now

It'll ask for payment method for when freebie is expired.

Also note: When automatic renewal is activated for a pass, the pass will automatically renew 48 hours prior to the end of the then-current period.

  • Can't use with family membership as per the terms.

Although - It seems to save the URL for you to continue checking out if it does not work, so it may be possible to use once it runs out.

    • I got "This code cannot be redeemed." in the top right when I tried to claim it on my account that currently has a family membership.

      • Yeah, but back in Twitch Prime, it shows that it can be used in the future it seems like.

"Please redeem the 3-month Nintendo Switch Online membership between 3/28/2019 and 9/24/2019"

Finally I can stop paying $7/month just so that my girlfriend can play tetris

    • +13

If that's all she costs you, you are winning.

Unlike Tetris, which can't be won: the Kobayashi Maru of video games.

If you have a Mac, get her Quinn.

$7 per month? Join a family group and pay $7 a year

  • +16

Got one, thanks op. So glad I signed up for Amazon prime. Heaps better than eBay Plus.

  • +12

Whaaaat!? This is one of the best deals ever! Thanks OP. My Amazon Prime membership had already paid for itself but this is really the icing on the cake, haha.

  • +7

Too bad switch online is a joke

    • +6

Not sure why you're begged. Damn fanboys.

      • +8

Hell I have a Switch and love it, but the online is shockingly bad.

        • +2

For what you get it isn't that bad is it? It's not like they're charging $80 per year.

          • +7

@[Deactivated]: Why should we pay for a shit service?

            • +1

              @cyrax83: Barebones service

            • -1

@cyrax83: Because they're following the competition and at the same time offering a service. I don't care for many of the NES games but once we reach SNES I'm all in.

            • +1

@cyrax83: It's 57 cents a week at full price or free with this deal, what the hell are you complaining about? Online play, cloud saves and a bunch of 'free' games I'll never play; sounds like any other online service to me, except a hell of a lot cheaper.

              • +3

@mr_me450: It's even cheaper if you join a family service. Loads of members do it here, a massive $7 a year. It's laughable tbh. I have my kids switches and my own as well as two nephews and a couple of guys chipping in $7 each on my family plan.

              • +7

@mr_me450: Cloud saves are free everywhere else.. They have no messaging, no party support, no voice chat, you can't even invite friends to games…

People are complaining because they are charging for a service that doesn't even hold up to standards from 10+ years ago.

                • +1

@Harold Halfprice: Well cloud saves are not free with Playstation too.

                • @Harold Halfprice: Yeah this isn't true, not free with PlayStation and tbh the PS Plus service (which I've been a member of since day one) once had good free games and a shit online service but they've used the money to create a good stable service but now give shit games but at 3 times the price of Nintendo Online. My hopes are that they'll use this money to improve their online service just as Sony did but also give us better retro games as time goes on.

                • +1

@Harold Halfprice: Cloud saves are not free everywhere else they are only free on Xbox One; PS4, PS3, and Xbox 360 all require an active subscription service to access cloud saves. As for the other features you mentioned, many of these are available in certain games on but they are functions included on a game by game basis rather than at a system level. This is clearly not ideal but but the Switch online service is also a third of the cost of other console online services and has only been available for a year. Likely one of the reasons Switch Online is so cheap is because they know these features are still in development and so they have priced their service accordingly.

                  • +1

@mr_me450: I was wrong about PS4, but yes free on Steam and XBone. I don't see the relevance in even mentioning previous gen consoles though… Might as well argue PS1 didn't have online at all.. But on that note, PS3 online service was also entirely free.

Point is, Switch Online offers an extremely barebones service. Barebones by not only todays standards, but decade old standards.

For what they are offering, it should be free.

because they know these features are still in development

There is nothing to even suggest that Nintendo is working on bringing the features that are expected in an online service. People haven't stopped asking for them, and Nintendo has been completely silent.

Implementing a messaging service is a completely trivial task, especially for a company like Nintendo. They simply have no interest in doing so.

                    • @Harold Halfprice: Cloud saves on PS3 were not free, nor are they currently; it would be helpful if you would check your facts before sprouting misinformation as argument. The relevance of bringing up PS3 and 360 is that they too offer cloud save services for a price, just as PS4 and Switch do. The only comparable console service that does not charge for cloud storage is XB1, so for you to say the Switch is the only service to do so is completely false; it is the opposite, all console services charge for this bar one. Regardless of how ‘basic’ you think certain services are, the Switch Online service is priced accordingly, $30 compared to $79 annually for other console online services, or in the case of this deal, free with an Amazon Prime subscription. If you have problems with the Switch service then I suggest you forward them to Nintendo, you’ll gain nothing by voicing your dissatisfaction to me. In my case, I find it perfectly adequate for the price.

                      • +2

@mr_me450: I was saying PS3 online was free. Not the cloud saves, which was a PlayStation Plus subscription. PS3 online offered a better online service in every way than the switch, for free.

If you wan't to bring up old gen consoles to justify your argument, maybe consider other aspects.

you’ll gain nothing by voicing your dissatisfaction to me

Lol… You are the one that literally asked why people are complaining about the service. I'm simply telling you why. The fact that you feel that it's necessary to personally defend it for whatever reason is on you.

                    • @Harold Halfprice: I don't see the sense in mentioning Steam, we're talking about consoles here.

              • +3

@mr_me450: Cloud saves should not be a paid service. Not ever. That's a kick to the balls. Yes, Sony is an equal culprit.

                • @justtoreply: I don't follow, why should you get access to their cloud storage for free. What is it that exactly entitles you to this?

                  • @[Deactivated]: The data cost is so utterly negligible! You're just being argumentative for the sake of.

                    1) The traffic generated is negligible. Seriously, it's peanuts.

Now compare that to multiple revenue sources:

                    2) Game revenue. Cloud data cost for savegames is peanuts compared to the revenue from a game

                    3) Console revenue. When I buy a console they are selling me a system. Consoles fail.. remember the majority of Falcon X360s died by the time Jasper was out? They could make the system more reliable, obviously that costs money, so they choose not to. That's fine because the hardware itself doesn't matter but losing your game progress does. I argue that a portion of the console I have paid for is for this security

                    4) Developer revenue. Sony fees for developers also pays for overheads, this is an overhead.

                    5) Ad/sales revenue. They spam me with ads trying to sell games as soon as I visit their shopfront. Heck, wake my Switch up from sleep and I'm greeted with three stupid game adverts on the left and news notifications that I can't turn off

There is so little cost and so many avenues that are able to pay for it.. yet they want a fifth revenue stream (an annual membership fee) from me?

That's reason enough, yet in my personal case you can add that I don't play online, so I'm sure not paying $60+ per year for data security.

                    /rant

If you want to argue against that, up to you, I'm sure as hell not responding to you again on the matter.

                    • @justtoreply: Lol, how do you pay $60 for Nintendo online? The costs aren't for data silly. Your argument is as strong as your last sentence ;)

        • Are you the guy that plays tekken?

    • +1

      I don't care about a nominal cost.

I'm fine if they don't include games (in fact I prefer it so that it stays cheap).

The reasons I won't buy Nintendo online are
      (1) They make enough money selling the game at their premium prices to be able to deal with the tiny data cost of cloud saves.
      (2) They are forcing you to pay to access multiplayer on any game that was released prior to the existence of Nintendo online. When I buy a game, Nintendo and I enter a contract. If they sell it to me with free multiplayer, then they are not allowed to devalue my purchase at a later date without my consent. What's worse is all they had to do was not add this "defunctionality" into the game - it was patched in! Mario Kart and Splatoon multiplayer should be free - forever. Clearly this isn't an issue for new games where you know what you're getting into.

    Dumb question,
What is twitch prime? I just signed up and liked my Amazon prime account and it charged me a dollar something.

It said there is a 30 day free trial.

Is it free for Amazon prime members?

I did get the free Nintendo membership though.

    • +3

Is it free for Amazon prime members?

      yes

    • +5

The $1 is an authorisation checking the card for when your trial expires. It is an authorisation and won’t actually charge.

  • +1

I've already signed up to Nintendo switch online and after following the steps it seems it's asking me to purchase a 3 month subscription for $29.95 rather than for free.

Edit: pressed purchase and looks like it didn't charge me.

    • That's the auto renewal which you already agreed to. With paypal agreements they have to let you know about it each time.

  • Thanks!

  • Not bad. Especially with the long activation periods.

  • I already have Twitch Prime and 12 month family Nintendo online. Doesn't let me redeem :(

  • Wow thanks OP

  • +1

Thanks! Worked a treat. It's a shame that i can't claim the additional 9 months (i purchased a one year Prime Membership last month)

    Code successfully redeemed.
You can use Nintendo Switch Online. However, delays may occur depending on the server status.
When automatic renewal is activated for a pass, the pass will automatically renew 48 hours prior to the end of the then-current period.

    • +3

you will be able to claim the 9 months after 60 days if you are still a prime memeber.

  • Hmm after I put the CC details in I get:

    Error Code: 9001-0026
In order to continue, please access Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch console linked to this Nintendo Account.

Have tried accessing from console but doesn't make any differenc, any ideas team?

    • I got the same error. )-:

    • same error

    • Same error code using paypal as the method.

Looks like it means that the nintendo account being linked has not previously accessed the eshop on the console. Are there multiple users and which ones have used the eshop on the console?

      • I got the same message, I tried setting it up before I got my switch but it didn't work. I needed to sign in on my switch first and then it worked.

  • That’s a sweet deal!

  • +3

You have to pay for online on switch too now?

  • Worked for me, what a great deal.

    • Are you on Amazon US prime when linked with twitch account?

  • Cannot be redeemed because I already have family membership. Well that sucks.

  • I already have Nintendo Switch Online for a year which ends in September, damn.
    Anyone know if it stacks?

    • +6

it stacks, up to 3 years

      • +1

        Awesome! Thanks heaps.

      • Mine now ends in December, so definitely stacks!

  • This will cause auto renew after the free period. If we unlink our paypal is that going to prevent it but still keep the free subscription?

  • Is having Amazon Prime in the AU site, carry over to having it on the US site ?

    • Any games you've downloaded onto your Switch from any region will be able to be played online as long as you choose the profile that has the online membership attached when you play. It doesn't matter which eShop you downloaded it from.

      • I'm talking about the registration of Twitch prime to get this offer….

        • Prime with AU does not give you Prime with a US account but this offer works fine with a Prime AU subscription, as this also includes Twitch Prime to get the offer.

          • @mr_me450: Can't seem where to find to link my amazon prime account to the twitch account :S

Did it again, seemed to work this time…

    • I just did it and it works.

      • Did you link via the AU site or US site of Amazon Prime ?

Or did you sign up to prime on the u.s amazon site for it to work ?

        • Think you got your answer above, sorry was not on the PC.

I signed up on Amazon AU awhile back. I just went onto twitch.tv and clicked on the prime button and redeemed it there.

  • +4

So do I go and terminate automatic renewal right away, or does that immediately end the membership?

    • Terminated:

It will give you a notice to say that you can still get membership to the same 3 months end date.

      works:

      Individual Membership
      Expiry Date
      Valid until 27/6/2019 09:35
      Automatic Renewal: Not Activated

      • Rember to unlink your paypal or creditcard just to be safe

        Ozbargain FTW

  • +5

Doesn't seem to link to my Australian Amazon prime, it tries to use my American prime even when I choose Australia hmm. Anyone had this issue? And know how to fix?

    • right, me too. Doesn't seem to redirect to Amazon AU site

    • Been having this issue since the other day when I first signed up to Amazon Prime and tried to link Twitch.
I called support and they said they would 'escalate' the issue and get back to me within 48hrs

Haven't heard anything yet.. might give them another call today =(

      • Yes - I had the same issue. However, now when I login to my Amazon AU and Amazon US account, the twitch account seems linked to both. So I'm assuming it's all okay. I only have prime on my AU account.

        • +1

Did you have to get support to help you also?

I'm just getting the 'Oh no! We can't enable Twitch Prime on your account' whenever I've tried.

          • +1

@Stoibs: I had that error when I tried to do it via Amazon AU. I did it via the OP link and it seemed to work. Then I checked both Amazon AU and US and twitch is linked to both.

            • @julz15: You beat me to the post, after failing thrice by normal browsing link, trying the OP link indeed worked like a breeze for me,

            • @julz15: =( Still no success on my end. Gonna have to call them or something again =( =(

              • @Stoibs: Try going to 'Your content and devices' in the drop down menu, then check what your Country / Region settings are. Mine were set to US, so I changed them to AUS then after 30 min tried again and was able to activate Twitch Prime.

                • +1

@charlies123: Just double checked it all, was already on Australia. Tried to reset it back and manually enter my address anyway. Still no love. Thanks for the suggestion anyway =(

It seems clicking on Australia as the country for the Twitch Prime sign-up page doesn't actually designate it as Australia, and it keeps trying to login and sync with my US account which doesn't have prime =(

Wish I didn't sign both of my Au/US amazon accounts up with the same email and password..

                  • @Stoibs: Having the same issue here. Rang amazon and was told twitch prime is having issues authorising payment which is causing the error - they're having issues with Debit Mastercards (which is what I'm using) was told to try removing/readding card which I tried and it didn't work. They recommend using Visa cards….which I don't have

Might have to ring back because I'm not sure what else to do without another credit card to try

                    • @rainscapes: They vaguely mentioned something about an error authorizing payment to me also, but not in nearly as much detail as what it seems they told you.
Hmm, yeah I don't have any other credit cards or payment methods either..

At best I might try stopping into my bank on Monday and seeing if there's any sort of phantom block or blacklisting from Amazon/Twitch on my card? (Even though the $59 Yearly sub payment went through fine along with atleast 1 month I directly paid on twitch previously..)
This is all very weird and annoying to say the least.

                      • +1

@Stoibs: I had this issue a few weeks ago and it was so frustrating, Amazon Support team is basically robots. The only fix was adding a VISA card to my Australian Amazon account, make sure you update your Prime Video account details too. I can still pay with my Mastercard but the default is set to the VISA.

                        • @blueskittles: Cheers. Yeah I've been looking around at some options this morning, maybe it's time I grab an Amex card or something anyway since I always see deals and cashback offers for them posted here..

      • +1

I was getting this problem as well, but i finally managed to fix it.
After putting your card details in, go to your account > prime. then on the left hand side there is "Preferred Payment Selection". Click that and select your card.
Then try to link Twitch Prime again. Hope that helps people out.

        • I thought this might have been the fix for me, I could have sworn I checked every account and payment page in trying to fix this too, but apparently I didn't have a payment method set here either. Unfortunately it still didn't work on my end, I think what others are saying and what I'm reading may just be the case of Twitch not liking (some people's) Mastercard for whatever reason.

Going to speak to my bank today, already in the process of getting another CC also.. kind of a pain in the ass =(

          • +1

@Stoibs: I added a VISA card and I deleted all non-Australian addresses at Amazon US. That seemed to work for me.

            • @stanlie13: Cheers for the update. Annoying for those of us who only had a MasterCard. I did end up applying for and am currently waiting on another CC to arrive..
I probably could have asked a close family member who has a Visa to borrow theirs though, probably would have been easier :P Ah well.

              • @Stoibs: wow the spirit of Ozbargainer :O geez applying for a visa CC just to sign up this.

                • @JadaJ: Hehe, the Nintendo Online thingy is a nice side bonus. I ultimately just wanted to get Twitch working properly since the other week when I first signed up to Amazon Prime. Half the reason I signed up was for the free Twitch Channel, since I watch Critical role anyway and this works out cheaper than a monthly Twitch sub :P

      • Huh. I think support came through for me. I read so many reddit or forum threads with the same issue and they all mentioned support being useless, I kind of felt the same way and I wasn't expecting much, but I randomly just tried connecting once again and it went through this time! Still only got my Mastercard on Amazon.

        Yay :)

    • Finally fixed, I just changed my default payment method to a VISA credit card, rather than debit card. Worked straight away. Even though the Amazon site looked to redirect to the US site, it still said locale AU in the address.

  • If I’m currently on Amazon Prime trial, can I access twitch prime free?
    And get Nintendo online free?
