Staples AU Online Free $20 Voucher [Issue Resolved]

- being told that, something went wrong with the database yesterday, a lot of information was lost, Staples are working to recover the information, meanwhile new customers are being assigned id numbers that actually belong to customers created just before the big crash and then the new id numbers are hooked up to the old history -> new customers can see other people's data

    What a bad move! I can understand them canceling the deal but it was their mistake to begin with so im trying to understand how they can justify punishing us by cancelling our accounts?

    Some people have already got the shipped notification. So if staples delete their accounts on them, they have no proof that the item was shipped. So those people could claim their money back and get a free HDD etc. (if they were willing to fight fire with fire).

    • Is it possible that they sent the 'dispatched/shipping' notification without the item actually being shipped yet? From what I remember from a COTD ex-employee's blog, COTD apparently does that sometimes.

    Has anyone that played the game, won and registered then recieved the email been able to use the $20 voucher?
    maybe all those who just used the voucher from this post, didnt meet the terms and conditions of the voucher discount, which may make your discounts invalid.

    All my items have arrived safely this arvo, 1tb hd, 250 teabags and a box of A4 paper.
    i can still also log in without issue.

  • What would be interesting is people giving a timeline of when they ordered, whether they got a payment received and shipping confirmation email and whether they can log in right now. Might become clear at a certain time where orders won't be fulfilled. Or we could just wait 10 hours.

    • I ordered and received my invoice at 1:19PM. I joined the site roughly 15 minutes before that.

      No dispatch notice as been received and my account is "Deleted".

    I sincerely hope they just have the account system down for maintenance… Deleting accounts would be an absolute disgrace. Although this deal was particularly good its not really a one off… they have had good deals available before just they were NSW only. :( I will be contacting them and proving that I did not abuse the coupon (create multiple accounts) and I hope they still honour the order I placed.

    Oh btw I ordered the 1tb at 2:25 and received a confirmation email but no dispatch one…

    Looks like my account was deleted also and I was looking to use Staples for the office having used them quite often overseas. I thought the $20 voucher would have kicked off first order nicely but this is just piss poor service.

    Not the op's fault, the deal was good.
    I'd say whoever is running the website down at corporate express have nfi what they've done.

      maybe if you have just joined today during this massive ozbargain punishment of the Staples site it is just bad timing.
      I have only had two orderes so far with Staples but both have been perfect, including this 1Tb hd offer.

    Hopefully they just have a system problem. They were running slow as hell all day.

    My account has too been deleted, or so it seems.

    I have a printed copy of the invoice, stating that I have paid and purchased this item. I will be contacting staples, and will take action if necessary.
    Pretty sure what they have done isn't legal?

  • It worked again for a minute, and when I clicked on 'continue shopping' and went back to cart, the total cost went backup…and said the coupons already in my basket and used…um no? O.o

  • This isn't a database rollback, I think; I ordered from them a few months ago when they had a $10 voucher (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38602), and today was my second order with them, but now I find my account has been deleted too. Such a poor way of handling this situation on their part, and I certainly won't be shopping with them again since they've made themselves clear that they no longer want my business.

    They have made a mistake - they deleted the users which were recently added in the wrong way - I think my new account has the ID number of someones old account.

    I created a new account, and found that the coupon didn't work anymore. I looked in the order history for my account and I see "Verbatim 3.5 External Hard Drive" with the coupon used! I am seeing their order, and I can't use the coupon myself!

    This means that they haven't deleted your orders, and I don't expect to be shipped a free 1TB hd, but we'll see….

    Everyone.. If it says you've used the coupon, i think their system is screwed. If you've signed up tonight, i think you've been assigned someone elses history in your account. Therefore you can see there orders if they've made any. If there are no orders in history then check your cart! theres prob someone elses cart there lol

          Im not after specifics. I'm more concerned about what TYPE of information of mine is now being viewed by other people on the site.
          ANY private information being viewed by unauthorised parties is a concern however I'd feel a LITTLE better knowing if it was just a name/address as opposed to my full credit card details…

    So I called up, my email exists in their system, but when he tried to reset my password it wouldn't let him. He looked up the name on the account and I think it had 2 names (mine and someone else) Left my mobile number with them and they will call me back.

      I got the exact same message. they said they had a DB failure and lost lots of peoples account info. They are currently recovering the data. But that the orders are fine and they will be shipped out today.

      I still cant login yet.
