it asks for identification verification - should not need this at all with PayPal. I don't feel comfortable with supplying proof of identity documents to c company over the internet, particularly one i know nothing about!

If I was starting up a business that provided digital codes and accepted payment via PayPal, I'd ask identification verification too.
I'd be worried if a new business didn't.
PayPal offers protection for all involved parties. And my identity is safer(ish) with PayPal than some uber dodgy website..
They want to charge an operational fee (depending on the payment) which isn't disclosed in the OP.
For paypal it's $2.26, Credit Card is $2.04.
