i hate using their app. i really perfer that they didn't know you by name.

    • +1

Whats wrong with them knowing your name if you don't mind me asking?

      • +14

don't see the benefit/reason of them having your name to be used in the order docket. To me personal information shouldn't be freely used to as they see fit.

        • +10

You don't have to put in your real name.

        • +10

To add to that, under Chapter 3 of the Australian Privacy Principles, "an organisation, may only collect this information where it is reasonably necessary for the organisation’s functions or activities". KFC could verify that an order belongs to you without asking for your name and checking ID (e.g. by giving you a secret number to quote when collecting). For that reason, I don't think asking for your name is "reasonably necessary", and therefore KFC should not be asking for your name.

          • +15

@ragrum: Its common place to ask for a name when taking an order for pretty much every business I've ever dealt with.

            • +15

@deniz: Sure, but if I tell a cafe my name is Beyonce, they don't demand 70pts of ID for confirmation before handing over my coffee.

              • @ragrum: Yeah but they seen you already. With the app they got no clue. You could tell your mate to walk in and ask for food for Michael. Then come by after he leaves and ask for your food. Pretty easy scam I just made up on the spot.

          • -3

@ragrum: So more useless voluntary industry "principles" (the fak?) where you may only do something if it is "reasonable" so the industry can pretend it's taking privacy seriously while it isn't and screwing the citizens because of no regulation.

Written by industry as per usual because the regulators are owned by the industry and has a revolving door between industry and government.

          • @ragrum: If your not a manc…

          • +4

@ragrum: What the actual (profanity) is this and how are people upvoting this?

What the hell is private about your name? If you have a problem with people knowing your name, maybe you should stay home and get your mom to go order your food for you?

Clearly you have an issue with basic human interaction. Privacy is one thing, but people complaining about this crap seriously have delusions of grandeur.

          • @ragrum: Legit I put my name as First name AL, last name Koholik

        • +8

Your name is not really personal information…

There's nothing they can do with it other than maybe remember you, and even then; probably not.

I know I'd prefer a food service business to call out "order for Brad", than "order [number]".

Bit easier to remember my name than look down and find my order number.

        • +1

I use a non name as I see no reason for the order to have my real name. I use the app and never pay via the phone (I pay at the store). I have on the app as my name "The Dude". Never have they asked for proof of ID and the only comment I ever get is a laugh or statement that they like the movie. Once, one of the kids actually yelled it out in the store to advise me the order was ready. It was funny seeing her face as she said it. For that reason I was thinking of channeling my inner Bart Simpson and changing the name to Seymore Butts.

    • +1

      Don’t use your real name?

      • Then what do you do when they ask for ID?

        • +12

then show them your order on your app?

          • +3

@MeesusEff: I used to be called "Colonel Sanders" in the app, but was not allowed to pick up the prepaid order one time because my ID didn't match the order name.

            • +2

@ragrum: I guess the workers in the KFC's Ive picked up from are lazy, never been asked for ID. I guess if you don't want them to know your name, you can pay on arrival? Mine don't start to prepare my order until I'm in anyway which annoys me because I still have to wait about 20 mins when its busy.

            • +1

@ragrum: Did you use the "Don't you know who I am?!" line?

            • @ragrum: Haha you must've gotten some interesting reactions

          • +1

@MeesusEff: Sadly they don't always accept that, I quote the code and show the app and they say they need ID

            • +1

@freoleo: Wow! Thats just stupid lol, my chosen name isnt even on my ID so I'll be f-ed off if they insist on that.

              • -1

                @MeesusEff:

                Thats just stupid lol

Not if you're making money from collecting data.

        • +2

Drives me nuts when they ask for ID.

Drive me nuts that it takes 5 taps before I can even start creating an order. The entire point of the app is to order stuff yet I have to tap “order” twice.

          • @[Deactivated]: You are very confused about the purpose of the app it seems.

        • Never had an issue with ID, that is whack.

        • +3

I've ordered online at a few KFC's and never been asked for ID. Weird.

        • +4

We are meant to check ID for prepaid orders over $20 (I think). This is so that customers arent just using stolen credit cards and getting free food.

    • You can shorten you names and you don't need to put on your full name. e.g. if you are called David Allingham, you just put David.A there.
In this way, you didn't tell them the full name and the staff still be able to verify that you place the order when you show them your credit card, etc.

I have been using this for a long time and works great.

      • You can bill stuff to a credit card online without entering the full name on the card?

        • -1

Mate if you're giving a business your credit card number, I think you should worry about that more than them knowing your name.

          • @pistachio1: One is no good without the other, that's the point…

  • Can't wait to try. :)

Just saving your lala land click link trip.

How to access the KFC 'secret menu'

    1. Download the KFC App

    2. Navigate to the Order screen with the food categories (you will need to select a store first)

    3. Scroll down until the Colonel appears

    4. Hold for 11 seconds until the Secret Menu pops up

Edit: colonel hates me, i dont see him at bottom.

    • colonel hates me, i dont see him at bottom.

He is at the top, not the bottom. Instruction should be pull down rather than scroll down.

      • +1

Yeah just saw him, upsidedown holding a bucket and laughing his ass off at you coz it doesnt work.

        • Worked fine for me 5 mins ago. Make sure you get the screen you are dragging down past about halfway - two fingers at the top and drag down slowly.

          • @djkelly69: Was able to "push" it up completely by holding the phone upside down. No go still. Maybe my screen ain't long enough.

Looks like I have to go on diet today. Sigh…

Edit: ok got it working. I have to pull the screen down very fast.

  • +1

Secret menu doesn't work for my app.

    • Do more dragging. Might need to alternate between two thumbs for extra continuous dragging.

      • +1

I can see the Colonel but it won't let me drag it far enough. You can't double drag, it resets as soon as you take the origin one off.

        • +2

It does not work on certain devices

        • Hold for the whole 11 seconds and then a new category for secret menu will appear

          • @AlienC: I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on my device.

        • +2

Drag down to the bottom, then keep your finger on the screen move diagonally until you get near the edge of your screen, then pull down and repeat (took me about 10 times first time I got it to work).

Moving diagonally doesn't let the screen move up as quick so you can at worst slowly make more progress each time.

        • Dont have to drag down furthuer, just hold it for 11 + seconds

          • @oscinator1988: Never worked for me to be honest just holding down, seemed to need to be a certain distance down

            • @reptilescorpio: Either it works differently the first time or it has changed with an update. The first time was rather difficult and I had to keep continually pulling down or it would spring back up. But now just a simple pull and it appears.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yeah first time is 11 seconds. After that its 1 second i think

                • @oscinator1988: I tried dragging down many times, with the whole bucket exposed but no buzz or nothing pops up :/

  • not working for me

    • Pull it down until the whole bucket is visible. The phone will vibrate but nothing will happen until the Secret Menu option pops up at the top.

Granted, mine doesn't have this offer…even though I was sent the email advertising it :(. I have the Zinger Chipster, Slida Burger and Geese Churger, but no Kentucky Snack Pack.

    • Drag it from the very top using two fingers and slide slowly to the bottom edge of the screen, then hodl it there for a few seconds.

    • Pull down and hold for 11+ seconds.

  • +4

Is the actual snack worth $5 or not much better than those 3.95 popcorn go bucket?

    • +2

popcorn go bucket is equivalnt of a regular chips.
snack pack is 2 regular chips equivalant so yes for $1 you are getting an extra chips

      • thanks for clarifying

  • +4

How is this a deal? $5 for chips with some popcorn chicken on top and sauce? OP is associated with KFC just wants to advertise to increase his sales/profit

    • +9

Cool your jets mate. OP's a KFC employee, they're not going to see a cent more if we all rush in and buy this

      • -1

We dont know what level of employee. Anyone except ceo is an employee.

        • +3

Im a person who serves at the counter. I wish i was ceo :(

    • +4

Because a Large chips cost $4.95, a mini popcorn chicken costs $3.75

      • Can we ask them to put it separately

        • +2

You can try. No guarentee though as what you ordered was it all together. It would be at stores disrection

      • if its a large chips + small popcorn chicken that's descent and would be a lot better value then the go bucket.

  • +1

The other one is better? With hot spicy thingie, same price

    • It is?

    • +3

This one has 4MJ of energy, the hot and spicy has 2.9MJ. This means more joules per dollar hence this is better

  • +5

No cheese between the chips and chicken, can you even call this a snack pack.

    • And no Holy Trinity!

  • +1

Looks to not be available in WA or QLD.

  • The KFC app works very slow.

    • The server is in Hong Kong

      • how did you find that out?

        • +7

It's really not hard to. It communicates with api.alohaorderonline.hk for most interactions, with payments processed with api.braintreegateway.com.

The major slowdown is when it loads a 234kb menu that usually takes 4.5 seconds. So stupid.

Other than that there is a whole bunch of back and forth with the server, each costing about 500ms.

          • +1

@cooni: There's been a SYD-HKG link out of action for the past few weeks resulting in crappy routing for a lot of ISPs, it just came back online today so maybe that will help.

            • @ssquid: Regardless of that, having the server based in HKG is just plain dumb, especially with the way it’s written with so many back and forth JSON calls.

    • the app used to be fast now it takes 5 seconds to register a tap.. stupid

  • +2

I'm tempted to get this just for the novelty of it. Ingenious marketing idea.

  • +1

I works much prefer if the snack pack had gravy on it rather than supercharged sauce.

    • Yep hate mayo :(

  • -1
    • ?

  • KSP = 4000 kJ
Average adult daily energy intake = 8700 kJ

"Snack" worth nearly half your daily energy intake

    • +3

its a play on the halal snack pack

    • That makes it even better value ;)

  • +7

I’ve been pulling on mine for hours and the colonel won’t appear. It’s just getting sore now.
