  • Note unless they changed it since I bought one, these spin down after a period of inactivity independent of whatever you set in the host OS. May be handy or annoying depending on your use case.

    • I think all portables do don't they? I have different Seagate versions and they all do it

      • Can't speak for every drive, but my assortment of 2.5" Seagate and WD externals have behaved according to the host OS setting (i.e. if I set drives to "never" spin down, they won't spin down; if I set it to 10 mins, they'll spin down after 10 mins of inactivity).

  • Is this any difference in the quality of the drive between the basic and the advance?

So which one to pick, advice please? Seagate, WD or Toshiba? How do they compare? Thanks.

Seagate drives can be shucked. WD and the newer Toshiba drives cannot as there are no SATA headers. Other than that, it's all about brand preference/support.

Also, tip for those whoever have to RMA drives and they try to get you to pay shipping to Thailand, quote ACL and they'll generally give you a prepaid label (or hang-up and try another rep).

      • That's disappointing about the Toshibas, it's Seagate only now for portables.

      • Not planning to shuck. Mostly interested in which drives are the longest lasting and most reliable?

    • I wouldn't buy another Toshiba again. Bought 2 of these from Amazon US couple of years back, both failed pretty quickly!

  • will this work with ps4?

    • I'm not familiar with ps4s.

"The internal drive can be no more than 9.5mm thick, so while 4TB 2.5-inch hard drives do exist, they are 15mm thick. So you can't buy a 4TB drive that will fit inside the standard PS4 case (yet). Such a limitation isn't going to stop PS4 owners hooking up a 4TB 3.5-inch drive, though."

It seems these drives aren't shuckable anyway.

  • Does JB Hi-Fi price match MSY?

    Wrong thread sorry.
