Welcome and cheers for posting. Doesn't compete very well with optus https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/451544
I'm getting 45GB for $40pm with telstra, i think it should be around this mark to be considered a worthwhile deal.

    • Definitely much better with Optus

I switched from Telstra to this Optus deal a week ago.

I thought I would probably get worse reception in my area/work commute. Boy, I was wrong. I don't know wtf is wrong with Telstra at the moment (over saturated with the rebranded sellers?) but the old debate of Telstra being a better network (in metro) is a little dated imo.

For reference: Location SW Sydney but travel West/CBD all the time.

      • Optus reception is trash in Western Sydney, my experience anyway.

        • Yep I find Optus a bit hit and miss in Sydney. In Brisbane I find the opposite and Telstra is trash. Called them about it and the guy said even he was having issues.

          • @onlinepred: I want to go back to Aldi who uses telstra reselling but I signed up for the 12 month catch.com deal which doesn't end till September :(

            • @Homr: Do let you don't get Telstra benefits with aldi right?

    • Thanks for the feedback, Optus sounds like a cracker deal!

    • They were offering 80gb for $40

Telstra pre paid max is better.

I got additional 10gb to my current plan by talking to a nice chat rep. Now I'm paying $49 for 90gb data. Thanks OP

    • What plan were you on? What did you say to the rep?

I'm on a $49 for 65GB. Would love to up that amount.

      • I was on $69 plan where I initially get 80gb data, I got $10 off from signing up from JB hifi, then another $10 off that I already forgot from where. Not sure if you can get the same amount of data as me, but I think you can definitely add another 10gb on top of your current plan.

        • Did you need to recontract?

I’m also on the $69 plan with a $20 discount. Nice work on getting 80Gb up front.

          • @vetopower: In my case I didn't recontract, they just add bonus data on top of my plan. You can get what you want with telstra if you talk to the right rep I guess.

I managed to get $39 with 30GB and speed shaping to 1.5Mbps a couple of weeks ago.

Optus may have larger quantities of data available but at some point it’s just hoarding isn’t it? Rather pay $39 for 30GB on Telstra rather than $40 for 80GB with Optus, because Telstra has the better coverage. Worst case scenario is it goes to 1.5Mbps and I don’t even notice.

With WiFi permanently off and all the highest quality streaming I just couldn’t use anywhere near 30GB.

  • Does telata still get that shitty overseas roaming charge?

    • Oh yeah

I just got the 70gb plan for $49, through live chat. Very reluctant at the start. Only started coming to the table after I told him I’d leave, then only offered $5 discount. After I told him I’d sign up if he gave $10 discount which he did.
