Been looking at this model for a while as it's one of the best reviewed branded gaming laptops around.
With an 8th Gen i7, RTX 20160 6GB dedicated graphics, IPS G-Sync 144Hz screen , 16GB DRR 2666 (dual channel) and 256GB NvMe SSD the specs are top notch.
This is the cheapest it has been on Lenovo's website for a while at $2,159 and you can also get 10% ($215.9) off with Cashrewards. Tested this myself and cashback was accepted so total comes down to $1943.1.
Please note the cashback rate of 10% is valid only until 11:59PM AEST May 7.

    Nice specs. But still expensive.

    • +2

I can’t recall seeing any other specs close to this for cheaper? Any links?

      • -1

I would wait a few months for 2060 to become mainstream and replace 1060 laptops.

        • +3

Of course prices will drop in the future… So you're basically saying don't buy anything because there will be something better and cheaper later on…

          • -3

@sghetti: I am saying wait till 1060 replace 2060. Not wait forever.

            • +2

@bashar20: Then there will be another unit that comes along after that, wait for that one to go mainstream?

        • +1

I wouldn't hold my breath. The 1060 is now 3 years old and the cheapest laptops running them go for around $1,600, so I don't think a few months are going to make much of a difference for the price of 2060's laptops.
Agree with sghetti, in technology you can always wait for prices to come down as new stuff gets released, but when do you stop waiting?

          • +1

@not4us: My point exactly. Technology moves too fast, you'd be stuck in a never ending cycle if you had that philosophy.

Pure speculation to wait it out for better prices. If it's at a good price when you're looking for a laptop then you're best off buying it.

Given the multitude of laptop deals I've seen over the past months, this is a great deal at this price point.

      • Last laptop deal that blew me away was this:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/423867

This was only several months ago…

This Lenovo has better specs, and it's cheaper.

I agree with Bashar20 though, waiting a few more months, and possibly when the new AMD Navi cards come out, we may see anything with an Nvidia card in it become more competitively priced.

Only thing closer in price I have managed to find is Metabox. Not bad machines but definitely lacking the finish and quality of Lenovo.
If anyone can find a 8th Gen, 16 GB 256 NvMe, RTX 2060 144Hz G-sync panel for less than $2000 please share!

    • Personally don’t need it, but these specs are amazing for a laptop. And for a fair lot less than I’d expect for these sorts of specs

  • Thanks OP. Indeed, very good price for this spec.

When customising the laptop… you can add the Jedi VR challenge toy for $1!

  • Any AMD versions?

  • Thank you very much OP, been eyeing this laptop but my 2014 Y50 with 860GTX is still serving me well. Great price for the specs. As an owner of two Lenovo gaming laptops, I would buy this in a heartbeat if I was in the market for one.

  • Worth the extra $300 for 2070 version?

TO me getting about 10-20FPS seems a bit steep for $300

    • +2

Comes down to the individual I guess. I opted for the 2070, helps that the cashback also covers it I guess 😛.

Wouldn't upgrade any of the other parts through Lenovo though, installing another ssd or increasing the ram should be easy enough for most folks 👍

Just checked, after the discount/cashrewards it comes down to an extra ~$200 for the 2070 upgrade ($2139 total)

  • +2

Ordered one of these bad boys with a 2070.. and the $1 Jedi thing 😛

Can confirm the cash back showed up in cashrewards 👍 will bring it down to $2139 for the 2070 version.

  • Good specs inside. Not so much the outside

  • +1

Can it receive power from the TB3 port?

I got excited until I saw

    Battery 3-cell (57Wh), integrated

That's a bit small for this beefy a laptop. It's not even all that thin. Surely they had room for a bigger battery?

Unfortunately I have had to cancel my order as the shipping date got shifted from 14th May to 30 June, not acceptable at all.
I called them and apparently the reason is a shortage of SSD's from the supplier, but adding 6 weeks to the order is just not on.
Pity as I really wanted this laptop, but I'm a bit impatient and when I pay for something I expect to be able to actually have it…

    • Were you going overseas before the laptop arrived? If not, might have been worth the wait given the price.

      • +1

There's a chance that I'd be travelling soon, but it wasn't just that, it was the fact that they took the money from my credit card when the laptop wasn't available, I found that unacceptable.
Most companies will only charge the credit card when the laptop is shipped, but Lenovo wanted to grab the money for a full 2 months!
And not only that, they couldn't give me any guarantees that it will be ready by that time, I don't know, something is fishy about this whole deal and now no Y740s available at all?
Got my money back and shopping around at the moment (some pretty good deals with the 15% off on eBay and 20% off Computer Alliance @eBay)

    • I was about to pull the trigger on this laptop and then it disappeared from the site. Asked support about where it's gone (no mention in the sale, and nothing available) and she said that they're out of stock and won't be restocking. Found it pretty weird since it's a new model laptop??
