Provided no price-jacking Synology DS918+ for $639.20 would be a pretty good deal!

    • Already jacked up to $799?

      • $639.20 after 20% discount. The sale is not live yet.

    • Waiting for one of these too but will wait until Amazon have it at $600 again.

    • Yep. I got one from CA for that price in late March. Such an amazingly slick, easy-to-use, super compact and silent NAS. Highly recommended!

      • What drives have you used in it?

  • Came for the price jacking comments. Thanks

  • Any discount code for Ebay gift card?

  • Thinking of either of these 2x monitors, any opinions? $379 (kogan) vs $423 (Acer)

  • How worthwhile is a ram upgrade from 8gb -> 16gb? Am I better off getting 2 x 8gb and replacing completely or could I add another 8gb to my existing setup (I just have a stock standard ram stick at the moment so wouldn't be same one).

    • +1

Mixing DIMMs in a dual-channel setup is not recommended, at worst the computer may not even POST. Better of getting a 16GB kit and selling your current RAM on gumtree/FB marketplace/etc.

      • +1

That's not entirely true. Corsair guarantees you can mix their memory kits as long as you get the same part numbers.

It's best to check with the manufacturer.

UPDATE: Sorry. Didn't read the original question properly. Mixing memory with different part numbers will most likely cause issues.

        • +1

I was specifically talking about mixing modules, since the commenter I replied to said:

I just have a stock standard ram stick at the moment so wouldn't be same one

      • +5

There are occasions of bad luck, but 99% of the time you can mix ram.

Put it in and run memtest.

    • +1

if you're on budget and don't overclock

just get the cheapest 8gb stick available from anywhere, even used ones will do

99% will work fine with your current stock ram on dual channel setup

not worth getting a new 16gb kit for your usage

some say don't mix dimms but i say those days are gone

i got a kingmax single sided 1Rx8 mix with samsung dual rank 2Rx16 double sided 16 chips , and they works fine without hiccups

    • +2

Motherboards are pretty tolerant of mixing sticks nowadays, but if can be hit and miss. Try to get something very close in stocks to the chip you have.

Also, the more basic question, 16GB vrs 8Gb isn't going to make any difference for light use. You will only see an advantage for programs that can use, and need that extra capacity. Most systems will run just as well with 8G or 16 for common use.

  • +1

It's a shame their eBay stock is limited - would've liked to have picked up an APC UPS, but there's only CyberPower on eBay.

edit: bgr it, CyberPower will be fine.

I knew this was coming so glad I waited

highly recommend these guys, customer service is out of this world compared to other computer stores.

DOA and warranty returns are also quick and easy.
got my RTX2080 replaces under DOA within a week.

  • almost bought few things on budgetpcdeal but they price jacked for 20%.
then got couple of things from wireless 1 with 15% off deal.

hope they won’t price jack too much ^_^ for this deal.

    • +2

Yep, just like it's mentioned in the title.

What a shame the 2.5" Samsung 860 EVO is no longer $209, wudda been a sweet deal atmo.

  • +3

Saw a 1660ti for $429 just as the last 20% promo started. Seemed like they forgot to jack the price. Should of bit the bullet. Next day it was 479$ =(

  • +3

Just talked myself out of a new build and here I am with a stacked cart.

    • Do it. Future you will thank you.

Surely that money would only go on beer and dominoes pizza deals anyway.

      • +1

Don’t buy dominos and beer since so (profanity) it. New mini itx on the way.

    • That's what can happen when you let an idiot talk you into something.

  • I got a question, how do we do the filtration within the promotion items list? Thank you!

  • I'm looking for a decent laptop for general browsing but also simultaneous SPSS work and video chat. Just something that's nice and smooth. My current laptop is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2540M [email protected] (8gb ram) windows 7. Anyone have any suggestions? Even if I could do something to this current setup. Cheers!

    • +3

You using a HDD in there? Change it out for an SSD instead. Will dramatically increase the snappiness of the machine (windows boot time, time for apps to open, etc). Will just need to clone the data to the new drive.

If on the other hand, you have one browser window open and it won't scroll nicely anymore, or video doesn't play well, then it's time to upgrade.

      • Thank you, i will try and find out what i have

      • It is DDR3 ram….

  • Will the Arlo camera setups be included in this sale? I wanted one last time but the discount wasn't applied to them.

  • Any DDWRT router to recommend?

    • +1

      i adore my r7000p

    Left disappointed.

  • any good wireless chargers for my Samsung S10e?

  • +11

Why is RAM so expensive, back in my day you could get a stick of RAM with money leftover for a blank floppy.
What's a good deal on monitors with 4K and 144FPS?
Why is my item price jacked?
    Why won't the code work?
Everything is sold out on Ebay
I just bought everything yesterday, can I cancel?
    Are car parts included?

Will JB price match this ebay coupon?

    • Lol. Good troll bot.

      • My minion is doing a great job.

  • Guys can please explain it to me? I saw someone said we can have 28% off in total when we purchase woolworths ebay gift card. i cant understand how it works. whwere can i buy the ebay gift cards? if I buy an item for example is $112, how can I purchase exactly $112 gift card? or I just get credit from it? Or i will just waste the $8 if i buy 12 of the $10 gift cards?
Sorry for my english if you cant understand it.
    many thanks guys

    • +2

If you have Woolworths Rewards you can go in to a Woolworths store and purchase the eBay gift cards. You will be credited $10 for each $100 gift card you purchase. You cannot purchase a $112 gift card, but if you purchase 2 gift cards you will have credit left over to spend at eBay. Note that the $10 credit can only be spent at Woolworths.

      • thanks, that explains everything.

  • Was planning on buying some Ubiquiti gear but when checking prices found I could buy most items cheaper, or negligible difference, elsewhere even with 20% off. Computer Alliances is one of the best company's I've dealt with so a little disappointed their prices are not as competitive as they once were, at least in this case anyway.

  • Any recommendations on a NAS?

Was looking at the synology 918+ which would be cheaper post 20% than MSY though the base price is 799 vs 728.

    • Great bit of gear. Invest in some high capacity drives, too, so there's no regrets down the track

      • Agreed, the upfront costs sting but the ongoing experience and money saved when upgrading is worth it.

        • Any recommendations on a 2 drive equivalent?

          • @kulprit: 2 drive NAS units are a waste of money

            • @Larwood: Why is that? Because of the limited amount of storage, or because you can only do raid 1?

              • +1

@kiitos: Both, basically. You either have raid 1 in which case you would have been better off just using 2 separate hard drives with 1 for backup, or raid 0 in which case you may as well use them both for storage. There's no advantage worth the cost of the NAS.

of course the HX1000i corsair power supply isn't on the ebay store…

  • @ store rep any deals on basic 10" android tablets……

  • Can someone please recommend a 10" tablet with 4G priced around $300?

  • NVIDIA Shield at $369. Even after 20% off its more expensive than others at normal price

  • +15

Made a CSV dump of all their current listings: google docs spreadsheet

    • It's outdated. They dropped the price of 16GB DDR4 Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 (2x8G) 3200MHz Vengeance LPX BLACK RAM this morning.

  • Perfect timing for my son's first PC build

  • +1

    Their prices are pretty high.
Synology 1618+ is $100 more expensive then most other retailers…
Computer alliance prices are looking uncompetitive

  • As a consumer, I would prefer if I got to enjoy the full 20% off and not be a victim of “price-jacking”.

As a someone who’s taught Microeconomics at uni…I’d have to point out though that the incidence of a subsidy is rarely fully passed on to one or the other of the buyer/seller but rather shared amongst the two based on their relative market power and other factors:

    “The incidence of a subsidy

The economic incidence of a subsidy indicates who is made better off by the subsidy. In contrast, the legal incidence indicates who, by law, the subsidy is intended to help.

However, the price the consumer pays does not fall by the full amount of the subsidy.”

    https://www.economicsonline.co.uk/Competitive_markets/Subsid…

    • +1

but it's presented as a sale to consumers with a specific numerical discount

      • That’s a very fair point! How would they present it then?

    • -1

      Speak English ffs.

  • +3

As a consumer, I would prefer if I got to enjoy the full 20% off and not be a victim of “price-jacking”.

For me simply the final price point is the most important factor , whether it comes from a 50% off coupon or 2% rebate it doesn't worry me .

Enjoy the times as not too long ago Ebay weren't worried about competition and now thankfully a monster is here to keep them honest .

I've seen consumer's here whinge about something going up 10 % but yet after the coupon was applied it has ended up as cheapest wholesale price in Australia . Then they whinge it lasted 1 minute after the 10 AM start :)

  • Any good deal for laptops?

  • +1

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3000 C15 DRR4 Ram for $135.20 seems like an amazing price for local stock!

    • What's better, 3200MHz C16 or 3000MHz C15? User benchmark suggests the 3200MHz is slightly better, and should come down to $151.20.

      • 3200 / 16 = 200 MHz
        3000 / 15 = 200 MHz

In day-to-day use it should be almost identical. Get whichever is cheaper.

  • Wanting to buy some more G440 mousepads.
Used to be $29 from Comp Alliance.

Now listed at $39 on Comp Alliance site
PCCG has it for $29, so does MSY and others

    :(

    • Wow! They were $19 shortly after release.

      • Yep! Gone up $10 then another $10

        • These mousepads don't even last. Why are you on ozbargain :(

          • @exit: Maybe its you. Have two for work and one at home, no issues.

            • @payton: Hmm whatever floats your boat but they lose their glide very fast and many people have confirmed this experience. If you aren't a gamer, then it's fine for work :)

              • @exit: that's a shame…i was looking at something to replace my everglide giganta…but i guess i can rough it up again for another couple years (mouse tracks better when it's not smooth)

                • @rhimes: Some soft mousepads are getting really smooth/fast compared to traditional cloth mousepads such as CM MP510/Asus Scabbard and Artisan Raiden. For hard mousepads it's either the mousepad or the mouse skates/feet that suffer :(

              • @exit: I agree that the Artisan pads wear out quick, the Manufacturer even calls them 'consumables', would you believe. That one I'll never buy again.
I wouldn't necessarily stereotype all of them as useless tho, coz you'd be wrong.
My G440, I've done 220+ hours of COD WW2, no issues with wearing out.

  • Thanks OP! Been planning new PC build and saved a bunch.

  • Corsair RM750x sitting at 151.25 after discount (close to the 148 delivered amazon deal if you have ebay plus)

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/750-Watt-Corsair-RM750x-80-Plus-…

  • By my calculations, I picked up a Gen8 i5 NUC, 1TB Samsung QVO and 512GB Samsung EVO Plus for $628.20. Managed to get $700 of ebay vouchers from Woolies for $665 due to Woolworths employee card, combined with the 20% discount code and the cashback for the Samsungs. Awesome savings!
