hi OP, very newbie here in term of tech…

can anyone kindly advise me if the spec of this unit enough for me to run adobe photoshop and lightroom?
had read comments above, and the more i read, the confused i am especially on the video cards and the space profile.
i assume i should have a reliable video card in order to run adobe applications ?

also, from my research i still need some WIFI card, video card, and extra ram, which i need to install, am i right?

no you don't need anything, but a $5 usb wifi

photoshop and lightroom runs fine on 8gb ram and without gpu acceleration

even a laptop grade cpu will run them perfectly fine

It would be perfectly fine for basic work, but if you need lots of layers with high resolution images in Photoshop it will run out of RAM and get a lot slower. If that happens simply add more RAM and adjust the Photoshop settings to say it can use extra RAM.

        • This would use ddr3 ram though. Can you get that cheap these days?

          • @fufufu: Yes and no. A single 8gb stick is around $60-65 from local shops, $35-40 from ebay, depending on the brands and specs.

The 9020 has 2 memory slots AFAIK and if I had to guess this one probably has 2x4gb meaning adding 8gb only gets you a gain of 4gb since you have to take out one 4gb, to get to 16gb you'd need to by 2x8gb.

@CJ31: I've got one in front of me now with four slots and 32GB ram in it. (4 x 8GB sticks)

              • @BaryGusey: Thanks, I just have it mixed up with the smaller models.

  • Good 1!

  • I’ve used various Dell SFF PCs for work the last few years and they’re great. Honestly if my mum or someone just wanted a basic box to do office and web I’d grab one in a heartbeat.

  • Once I have this machine, will it be possible to do a fresh install of Win10Pro on it without losing the licence?

    • Yes, it's built into Windows 10.

    • Expanding on the above (preferably an answer from OP or someone associated with the store) is it a genuine/provable Win10 license, or is it W7/W8 key used to activate Win10?

    • Yes - the licence is tied to the motherboard.

    • Works perfectly. I’ve done it on this model. Just reinstall windows and say you don’t have a product key - it will eventually activate based on being previously been activated with Microsoft. Need to choose same version but so do Pro not home .

Essentially these don’t have a key

  • Hi,
Does this machine have a standard ATX / MicroATX motherboard?
Interested if the components can be moved to another case.

    Thanks

I believe this requires a low profile single slot GPU if you want to put in a video card.

    It looks that way here:

    • Don't need a single slot GPU, you can use the 4x PCI-e port, on a 1050ti it'll barely affect it.

I have another model Dell with this sort of processor and it is quite powerful. You can do some serious work with this RAM permitting.

  • Is this better than the model from yesterday? Is the only difference the 240 vs 128gb ssd and a few bucks?

  • I'm always tempted by these deals but always hold off as I have a bunch of old games (from Deus Ex to GTA Vice City) that I never got around to playing and would like the option to add my existing (quite old) graphics card (ATI Saphire Radeon HD 5670) I'm aware these cases only accept a low profile card, and while my card is only one slot the fan is quite high and bulky. What would be the smallest type of case I could fit such a graphics card into?

  • good spec

  • Good specs for the price
    Cheers.

  • Ordered this on Wednesday night and received it on Saturday (Sydney). Seller's communication was great.

Have completed a bios update and clean install of windows and everything seems to be working well.

Certainly fast enough as a basic business machine, although it came without a wifi card. Waiting to install a low profile GTX 1050 to make this into a gaming/media box.
