Good price for this useful device.
It is a 2Tb drive with built in battery and wifi, plus a sd card slot.
Use it as a media NAS while travelling or at home.
The included software automatically backs up any sd card inserted in the slot, so it makes a great back up device for travellers/photographers if you are out and about with no laptop.

I have the earlier version, and am happy with it, but the software is a bit clunky.

  • Looks to be a great price.
Fair few negative reviews though especially re: the software. Could this be used w/o the software on a Mac?

For non a Plex Server perspective I use this as a photographer.

Bought one of these a few months ago to use a camera SD card backup drive when in the field. It works perfectly for that!

    • I took it around Tasmania for 10 days, taking 630gb of photos.
    • Without a computer I was able to offload the SD cards to this drive during the day.
    • I also was able to use the app (which is a bit mediocre but works) to view the photos and open them in Lightroom on my iPad for basic editing.
    • Since then I've used it on a few shoots where I didn't want to take a laptop but knew I would burn through all my SD cards in a day.
    • I also used it to recover photos off a card that my camera thought was corrupted, so it's definitely saved me!

    Absolutely love the thing.

A few complaints, the SD card reader can be a bit slow (as it's only 2.0 speeds) but still manageable, the USB input is very slow, but the output is nice and fast 3.0. The UI can be fincky, but the controls for just backing up SD cards are fine (it also has a dedicated hardware button for this, which is super great).

    • Can you connect a usb 3.0 card reader instead of using the inbuilt one?

      • yes but it's limited to USB 2.0 speeds.

Only the built-in SD card is USB 3.0 as well as the HDD output

  • +1

This must be a price error. The drive is well above $200.
edit : temporary out of stock, no wonder it gets ozbargained

  • Thx OP

  • Just bought another hard drive today! Somebody stop it :)

Is this any good for streaming media to smart tv’s?

  • Can this host plex properly without any lags?

I have the 1tb version of this, and if you want it to be more rugged, the hdd inside this can be swapped out for a ssd.
(It'll actually become the passport wireless ssd!)

However it is extremely picky on the ssd it'll accept so your mileage may vary.
It is also held together by plastic clips which may snap off if you aren't careful.

    • so what ssd would you recommend, ta

Wd blue 3d sata drives tend to work well.
        Samsung etc do not work.

I forgot to mention, the drive will need proper partitioning/setup and a few other things for it to work.

So don't attempt if you aren't technically competent.

Look up "passport wireless pro system recovery or hard drive replacement"

  • put one on backorder - why not cheers OP

  • is this like direct wireless connection? or can I surf the web while connecting to this wireless drive?

  • can these things be powered via DC ?

    • Yes, it can be powered through the USB cable.

      • so via a phone charger ? or dos it come with a power brick ?

        • +1

You can charge it via a phone charger, or via USB port on your computer.

        • It comes with a usb wall charger (with multiple swappable ac plugs) and a usb cable.

To charge it you really can just stick it into any proper usb port/wall charger

  • Bought it at around $180 and never regretted. Very good secondary backup when you take your camera for a long trip.

  • I placed a backorder.

  • Just got the email with the $30 credit

  • Has anyone been lucky enough to receive their order?

  • My order was cancelled, not even a word nor credit voucher!

    • You are not along, me too! :( Are you going to make a complaint?

      • Looks like no one got lucky with this item :(

        • Well, both you and I got cancelled perhaps due to already being "Backorder"? For those who managed to place the order while still "in stock" maybe lucky! Who know? Let's see! haha

  • Give AMAZON a call, 1800 571 894, they will credit a $30 voucher to you.

I placed WD 4TB backup and this disc together as one order, both got cancelled, should place them separately though.

    • Cheers . What time did you place the order for the 2TB wireless pro ? Did you get in early ?

      • Ordered on 20th May, it's in back order already then.

    • Cheers mate! Was just wondering how would I contact them regarding this unnoticed cancellation…

      • +1

Just let them know they cancelled your order without informing you, they should fix you up with $30 voucher.
