Best laptop I've ever owned, until I got my money back. Since it has some Dell warranty left, this should be a good buy - hopefully the earlier ones that burned out have washed through the system.

FYI some of these didn't have BT, even though it's the specs. Worth confirming with the poster.

After saying all that - $900 is getting you a lot of laptop from an established poster and business.

    that's a "+" from me

    • Hey mate thanks for +1, we haven't had a single return with the last lot sold. I think that's a pretty good sign.

Also, we were curious with the burnt chip issue. So we opened up one of the last lot and noticed that the chips where different on our units. Maybe Dell have done something about it, but that would be anyone's guess.

      • Hi OP

What do you mean by below?

        • we have tapped our warranty on to it
        • instead of only providing the 6 month dell warranty, we are also supplying a further 6 months to provide a minimum 12 month warranty.

    • FYI some of these didn't have BT, even though it's the specs. Worth confirming with the poster.

Some of them have been permanently disabled at the factory as part of a configuration request from whoever the cancelled order was from.

Very common in customers who believe BT is insecure.

The physical chip is capable of BT, but something on the bios disables it :/

      Not reversable on user side

      • so its a random luck thing that one would get a working BT or not for this batch?

        • so its a random luck thing that one would get a working BT or not for this batch?

For Dell Factory Outlet, it will just say Wifi card without + Bluetooth 4.1 at the end of the description.
You can confirm this with the specs sheet they provide you

The service tag Calmago provided, C6SFST2, 100% has bluetooth enabled.

  • can you get extended warranty for this through you?

    • Sorry buddy we are not offering extended warranty with us. We did report last time, that it was possible to take out extended warranty with Dell but i think it would be a PITA and not worth it.

      • I bought one of this from last sale and had been trying to get extended warranty from Dell as per suggestions from last post but no luck as it was out of warranty.
Now it comes under a better price with half year Dell warranty which makes it easier to get extended warranty.
        Should have waited till now…
My one is still in the original sealed box, not being opened yet. Is it possible to swap my one with one of this batch as I really want to get extended warranty from Dell?

    • you can do through Dell support.

      • with these ones?
I purchased a 7390 from the last batch.
It appears it was a cancelled order with Dell from a school here so no Dell warranty

        • +1

the service tag seller is giving below has pro warranty until December 2019. within warranty period, purchasing extended warranty from Dell is a breeze.

          • @[Deactivated]: yes that's the current ones but I bought from the last batch

          • @[Deactivated]: What does the Dell Warranty Extension bump it up to? Another two years onsite?

            • @bdl: I think that'll cost you about $100 per year

  • Do you have a service tag? I note in the specs it has a SIM card slot, so I was hoping to add a LTE card, but it depends on the screen build apparently because they build them with two different screens. One has an antenna in it ready for use.

    • C6SFST2

    • +2

It has a SIM slot but the SIM tray is blanked out and there's no pinhole to eject the SIM tray.

      • @Calmago - are you able to check if there is a usable SIM slot please?

        • 100% it is not usable.

          1) Screen config has to be WWAN/WLAN build, which costs extra money.
          2) WWAN card needs to be installed for it to work, this costs anywhere from $200-$300

          • +1

@cwongtech: Yup. Just use your phone hotspot. Save the trouble.

  • Do these have Thunderbolt 3?

    • Doesn't appear to be Thunderbolt 3. It's best to assume it is USB-C/USB 3.1 gen 1 with Power Delivery (though units sent to reviewers appeared to have thunderbolt 3 support).
Without Thunderbolt 3, the best you can get out of that USB-C port for graphics would be 4K@30Hz (no HDR). Also going to guess that the HDMI port has the same limit (chances of Dell wiring the DisplayPort + a bridging chip to achieve HDMI 2.0 on that port is quite low).

  • +1

highly recommended model for someone looking for a portable universal device. student, small business, personal laptop, this is the best hardware money can get at this price. make sure you install latest BIOS and firmware updates via Dell SupportAssist app, and you will not find a more reliable device.

    • high quality build and components
    • comfy keyboard (backlit)
    • 300nit screen, this is above average brightness
    • 60WH battery is decent for 13 incher
    • 2x2 dual band WiFi

SSD is class 20, so not the fastest, but at this price forgivable.

warranty till December 2019, arrange extension for about $100 a year with Dell directly.

  • +3

I got one of these from a previous deal and it's been a great laptop!
Side note: Officially this only supports DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM Memory modules but I upgraded mine to 16GB with a 2666MHz module and guess what it's running at 2666MHz! Swapped out the M.2 SATA SSD with a Intel 660p NVMe drive to add more storage as well.

Also worth noting that this is one of very few laptops with a matte touchscreen (AFAIK there's only 2-3 other models with this feature)

This has a IR cam and support Windows hello face recognition - OP you should add that to the specs.

    • did your model come with Thunderbolt 3?

      • +1

From what I can tell there's no Thunderbolt support. It's only display port over USB-C.

    • Swapping the ssd and memory, did it void the warranty?

      • I'm not too sure. Usually on ThinkPad laptops upgrading Ram and SSD doesn't void the warranty, not sure what Dell's official policy on this is.

      • latitude is business laptop. it is created to be upgradeable. warranty is not voided.

Has anyone had an issue with signing up to eBay Plus?

When I click 'Start free trial', I get shown a page with a message 'We ran into a problem. Please select a different payment method or try again later'.

    • Yep. Tried different devices and browsers but still got the error. Managed to sign up via the iOS app on my phone.

  • does anyone know if this comes with windows 10 pro or home?

    • Windows 10 Home. It’s in the description

      • thanks! I didn't think to look at the ebay desc.

  • I got this for work. Looks nice and feels nice. But runs hot =( With everything updated and CPU only 20% load it runs 65-75C with power connected. Tried flipping it upside down to help hot air to escape but not much of a diff.
    Otherwise it's great =)

    • I am not sure why Dell did it this way, my mobile workstation goes crazy on AC power, but I don't use it on AC 99% of the time.

  • Naive question but how does the sim card slot at the side work? Is it as straightforward as popping in a sim card and away we go with 3G/4G/5G? It's not used to make calls is it?

    • +1

You also need the Dell DW5816E 4G WWAN card (normally a ~$200 option from Dell, cheaper on Ebay) installed for it to work. Data only as far as I've used.

  • Hi OP, Can you upgrade HDD and/or RAM? If yes, how much would you charge?
Is this Laptop okay for internet browsing, occasional Image manipulation software like Photoshop and Office applications? As I am not sure about i5 capabilities.

  • +1

Latitude's normally come with 3 years warranty, unless they're purchased from the Dell Outlet then the're sold off with a 1yr warranty.

    • +2

Lately they have been selling many with the full 3yr warranty.

    • +3

Latitudes in outlet are all with 3 year warranty now. great value!

  • Hi some silly questions:
I feel uneasy buying a Dell laptop from an Ebay seller that is not a Dell re-seller, just a business making money. Thoughts people and Associate?
This charges via USB-C right? Is this the correct version where I can use this to connect multiple monitors and power?
Is this a business class machine?
What is the normal retail price?

    • Read previous deals on this item, will answer many of your questions.

    • business grade yes
It was a cancelled order as my box had the name of a school
7300 is the current model so unsure on 7390 RRP
      Charges via normal Dell charger

  • It seems to be this model: N006L739010AU
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab…
Can you confirm that it has no USB-C charging?
It has the larger battery, what is the weight?

    • 7390 has usb c charging - it uses the combo port on the left side

  • Is this 2 in 1 version?

    • No

  • Anyone know if this has the thunderbolt 3 option? Doesn't look like it right? Would be perfect for me otherwise!

  • Can anyone please help me if this one is compatible for Cad/ Cam softwares like Solidworks, Autocad , Mastercam etc ?

    • It only has Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics and 8Gb of RAM, it will not run Solidworks well I know as previously I have had similarly spec'd machines crumble using Solidworks. Currently have a Lenovo P50 with Nvidia Quadro M1000M dedicated graphics and this is the best laptop I have had so far that handles Solidworks really well. It should handle AutoCAD alright. Have run AutoCAD LT on similar machines without much issue.

      • I have Dell Precision 3530 for this kind of thing, with Quadro P600

    • +1

I can point you in a direction of a mobile workstation suitable for these things for $1300

  • Will this charge via Type-C PD?

    • Yes it will.
It only has 1 usb-c port though

  • Great Deal just purchased one. Will need to upgrade it to Win 10 pro though, but easily worth the cost savings

    • Are there any more Win 10 upgrades available? (Similar to the accessibility upgrade one…)

  • This or the recent Lenovo e495 deal with Ryzen processor? Seems like the main advantage of this one is the brighter screen & touch screen. Will it be important for me who's never used a laptop with touch screen before? Any input or feedback from your experience /observation.

    • Grab this one. E495 is heavier, lot worse battery life due to bad Ryzen optimisation, dimmer/non touch screen. Lenovo wins on keyboard tho, and has the classic Trackpoint.

    • It's a better built computer , business grade vs consumer grade.
It's likely that a company wants a consumer to buy a unit every year or two, and get another company to buy their reliable 500 units.
      Check https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Latitude-7390-i5-8350U-SS…
Although different cpu,it will give you an idea of the product

Hi OP, does this particular model have a finger print scanner? There seem to be some conflicting reports on various online reviews

    • +2

I don't think so, I've checked a serial number and it says no.

TBH finger print readers are optional on commercial models. We don't see it very often.

      • Thanks for the clarifications

  • There's an extra M.2 2242 slot for the WWAN module but it does not support SSDs. I tried installing a M.2 2242 SATA SSD and it didn't work.

    • are you sure it's not disabled in BIOS or anything silly like that? I have a Dell Precision (based on Latitude 5591), and I have a similar setup: it can be configured with M.2 2242 WWAN module, but wasn't, the slot was vacant. I installed a Transcend M.2 2242 SATA SSD and it works like charm.

      • Yeah. I messed around with the settings and there's no way to make it work. Even tried switching between AHCI and RAID modes and booting through Linux to check if the drive is being detected but no luck :(
It seems like the 7390 2 in 1 supports this but not the regular clamshell 7390.

        • very strange if you ask me. I have never come across such a behaviour in Dell Latitude. if there's an m.2 slot, it should have no problem accepting a SATA m.2 drive. did you talk to support?

what's the model of the drive?

          • @[Deactivated]: It was a Transcend M.2 SSD 420S.
On mine the slot is labeled as 'LTE WWAN' but on some other Latitude models it's labeled as 'WWAN/SSD' so seems like it wasn't designed to support both.

            • @fastnet: 430S installed in mine. Took off the cover, but I can't see it's labeled anything on my machine, apart from cryptic JNGFF2.

  • Grabbed one, too good to pass on this.

  • Can the RAM be upgraded to 16GB on this model? Thanks

  • -1

Latitudes are very very noisy even at low load. Lenovo is doing much better job in business class.
    For an example see this:
    https://youtu.be/7iGKEdvxr2k

And if you can bear the noise it’s a really nice laptop. You should know the super expensive Fujitsu business laptops are also very hot and noisy. Reasons? I don’t know. It’s a tradition for more than 10 years.

    • I would say that Lenovo T4xx/T5xx are somewhere between Latitude 5000 and 7000, but this is gross simplification.

in both systems power consumption and cooling can be controlled to your liking, Dell being a bit easier with their Power Manager. You can choose Quiet mode and be done with it.

  • Does this laptop have Bluetooth? Ie want to connect my Apple air pods to it.

    • According to the specs on eBay it does. I hope so. Will confirm when I pickup the unit from the post office.

    • system configuration page for the service tag provided by the seller above confirms Bluetooth 4.2

    Ok thanks.

  • So I'm looking for a new laptop for my partner.
Obviously trying to get the best bang for buck. I'm a bit outdated with the terminology and parts these days. Other than simple University work, Is this a good laptop for photo editing or perhaps video editing? Or is there another deal that's comparable?
    Thanks

    • Both will be fine, just slow.

I'm a bit outdated with the terminology and parts these days.

      These are low powered quad-cores

    • These will get warm & noisy when load is placed on them, so I wouldn't recommend them for video editing work, or anything that requires sustained processing load.

Perfect laptop for office.travel use though.

    • What kind of photo editing and video editing (1080p or 4K)? Do you need batch processing? Household grade photo editing and 1080p video editing should be fine (assuming you are not doing them in large batches).

The CPU is designed to consume less power and it is technically not true 8th gen (it is 7th gen refresh but did have 2X cores so it is somewhat 8th gen). However, as intel has been struggling, the only way for intel to make their 8th gen competitive is to use more power (but this CPU is designed not to take on extra power). If you use Adobe products (latest version) which support GPU acceleration, you won't like the embedded GPU. That said, if you are a serious Adobe apps users, I doubt you would be looking at this price range.

This is 2017 level laptop and that's why there is a big discount. It's a sensible choice - good value for money. But it does miss out on 2018 features (USB 3.1 gen 2 USB-A ports, Thunderbolt 3, Bluetooth 5, Wide channel wifi - 160Mhz). The peripherals which utilise those 2018 features do cost a lot. Then, there is the upcoming 2019 intel 10nm mobile CPU hype.

A good way to decide is: if you have zero plan to connect this laptop to a 4K TV or 4K display (as this laptop cannot do 4K@60Hz) nor HDR and you need a cost effective laptop, then this is worth considering.

      • +2

        Hi Netsurfer,

The CPU is 8th Gen, it came out in Q1 2017, Dell still use this today, in fact this configuration is still sold.

Yes USB 3.1 gen 2 is faster - 1 offers 5Gbps speeds, whereas Gen 2 offers 10Gbps. Not a big deal.

What I would like to know is if I get a USB_C hub, can I connect two monitors, Network cable and USB devices as well as the power supply. If so this is a sale.

No big deal with Widechanel wifi.

The other advantage with this laptop is upgradable memory and a hard drive.

Why can't this laptop do 4K@60Hz or HDR either through a display port adapter or HDMI?

  • Is this a 2-in-1 touch screen model? Cause I believe 7390 comes as a regular touch screen laptop as well.

    • Is this a 2-in-1 touch screen model? Cause I believe 7390 comes as a regular touch screen laptop as well.

This is not the 2-in-1 touch screen model.

This is the 7390 clamshell version (standard laptop), it has a touch screen, but can't fold back 360 degrees like the 2-in-1 can.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Finally pulled the trigger.

  • +1

Just want to say Australian Computer Traders from my experience are a good and honest business. Plus from me.

  • Thoughts on this as an HTPC?

  • Guys, how does this compete with Vostro? https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab…
Little bit dearer but with i7

    • Vostro is for entry level business.
      Latitude is one class higher.

Also both lines come with different steps, 3000, 5000, 7000 series

i5 vs i7 - depends on what you need it for, negligible difference for the home user

  • So is this 7th gen or 8th gen and can this be picked up at kangaroo point.

    • 8th gen, and no pick up sorry.

      • So how long to deliver to 4133 Waterford west

        • would be shipped today, so probably next day.

  • Do you have a latitude with a number pad? This is for an accountant.

    • 13" latitude 7000 doesn't have numpad.
For numpad, you need to go for a 15" version

Latitude 5000 series has 15" versions
