Is it worth $40 more than the one on offer from Aldi ATM?

    • Yes. Many more bargain points

  • you also need to buy the Core to solder right?

  • Self-Igniting Cordless Butane Soldering Iron

Sounds dangerous… Wonder if it will void home insurance?

    • I'm pretty sure it means it can be lit form the device rather than using an external source, similar to lighters.

      • pretty sure jv understands this already

  • Bargain! Thanks bought one! if this didn't pop up I probably would have gone for the new Ryobi 18v soldering station ($99 reg price) battery not inc.

  • Just bought one thanks. Hoping this will replace my aging Portasol Technic. A gas soldering iron is brilliant for those little jobs away from the bench.

    • Those old Portasol's are great, hard act to follow.

  • How does this compare to something like the TS80

    • +1

I don't have these specific models however I do have a Dremel gas soldering iron and also the TS80 so can comment on that. I find the TS80 much better to use compared to the gas iron as there is more precise control, in addition the gas iron has an outlet so the gas flow can spill out of and if you are not careful you can burn or melt the surrounding area.

The TS80 combined with a QC3 powerbank is hard to beat IMO for portability.
