Huawei media pad m5 is meant to be better

    Doubt it

  • 2 year contract…
    480 minimum cost.

  • +8

There are heaps of people trying to promote Chinese products here, without explaining why it's better.

    • +1

      most things are made there

      • +4

Yes, but product company are not.

      • +8

        baby formula ?

        • thats why i said most and not everything! lol

    • +1

People here are not meant to educate you. If you don’t know why something is better than the other, google it, if you still don’t understand, ask nicely.

    • +1

There are heaps of people trying to free ride here, without even bothering to do some simple research themselves.

The world doesn't owe you anything, SURPRISE!

  • I have a dual SIM phone, I could just pull the sim out to use in my phone for data right?

    • +2

      No.

Telstra has a back end that detects ifthe SIM has been removed from the tablet and used in a phone hence, the SIM will be blocked and not work in the phone.

Once you put it back into the tablet, it will work again.

I believe they have updated the fine print to now call this out.

      • Ah well, you could share the data through a hotspot?

    • You can get from Voda.
I have plan with ipad, and I move the sim to the phone. I can use whatsapp and everything on the phone as long as it is voip and I can use it as personal hot spot as well.

  • Wow … this is excellent value if you at the same time also need the data. In my case I don't even finish my monthly data allowance on my phone so it is of less value for me.

  • Can anyone confirm that this is SM-T590N?

    If so, here's a review (good, 86%): https://www.notebookcheck.net/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-A-10-5-SM-T…

No finger print reader but has face recognition.

    • +1

It's is definitely that SM-T590N. But there are 2 new versions available now, Samsung Tab A 10.1 (2019) and Samsung Tab S5e (2019) if you are after a latest model and both are available in wi-fi or wi-fi and 4G versions. Cheers

  • In case anyone is calculating this deals value….. Amazon was selling these for $250. But I think that was a Wifi only version.

    • Yes, it was wifi only version.

    • Damn missed that one.

    • 10gb month with free afl/nrl streaming with a 10" tablet that has a radio …

Pay for the tablet and you get the data free… or pay for the data and get the tablet free..

I already have a 10" tablet but it never leaves the house as it's wifi only. This will be perfect for my daily commute.. Certainly not going to miss $5/month for the next 2 years..

      • You're twisting my arm

      • Where are you getting 10GB and $5 a month from?

        • +1

Ooops.. sorry.. meant to type $5/week…

  • Does this tab support screen mirroring to Samsung smart tv ?
PS- I’ve got iPad from deal 2 years back and the contract has ended. Not happy with screen mirroring via adaptor

    • Depends on your TV. Any modern Android phone/tablet can do it wirelessly as long as the TV has mirror link or a chrome cast.

      • Samsung smart TV it is… my mate can mirror using his Samsung phone so was wondering if it would work or not

  • Does data share with another existing Telstra mobile service exist still?

    • Nope, they stopped it for all services only aviator business plans

      • Available on**

        Stupid autocorrect

  • Does ShopBack really give $140 on tablet plans?

    • That'll be good deal then…

    • Don't think it applied to tablet plans.

      • Cashback is not qualified for
Promo codes or voucher codes not approved by ShopBack
Gift card purchases unless otherwise stated
        Returns, exchanges & cancellations
Cashback is not applicable for purchases made via the Telstra app
        Prepaid, Tablet, lease plans.

        • Then why is there cash back link on this deal?

  • Currently have a Samsung Tab S 10.5 4g, would this be an upgrade?

    • Nope
This one does not have an s pen

      • You must be thinking of a newer model, I have an original Tab S 10.5 that is like 4 years old with no S pen. Had a looking at specs and doesn't seem like an upgrade but still would like people's input as I'm not up to speed with CPU and gpu specs.

    • Probably an upgrade from my 10.5 Samsung Tab 3. That sucker can't even install new apps 😒

  • Looking at the bottom of the Telstra page it says the following __//''"Watch your favourite sport all year round with AFL, AFLW, NRL, Netball and the Hyundai A-League streamed live, fast and data-free. Excludes NRL Grand Final & State of Origin. AFL/AFLW/NRL live games are limited to a 7” viewing size"__//''
So will it work mirroring to a larger TV?

    • Looking at the app, I don't have a cast option for Apple TV.

      • Can you do screen mirroring with this tab ?

    • +1

No, I've tried screen mirroring, chrome casting, connecting to an external monitor, etc. No luck!!
It always seems to know that you're trying to bypass the 7" limit. The app will state that the action you're taking is not allowed and block it, or it will limit the size of the video to 7"!!

      • Strange!! Samsung phone works fine when connecting to Samsung tv

    • +1

I can screen mirror AFL LIVE from my S9+ to my 40" 4K TV using Smart View. It upscales to fill the whole TV screen. It might help that they're both Samsung products.

      • You can if you start watching the video on your tablet then use smart view to send to TV. The problem is the quality of picture is not good once showing on the TV. It would be better just to watch on the tablet because on the small screen the picture looks good

        • I preferred it on the bigger screen. The quality was good enough for me.

  • I bought this tablet for my mum for $295 and she loves it. All she does is watch YouTube, Netflix and browse the net. That said, the tablet has literally no photos or additional apps. Running smooth fast and exceptional battery life 10+ hours. I bought the tempered glass protector ($9) And a red case ($12) off Amazon AU to go with it.

  • I managed to get Telstra to chuck in an extra 5GB through online chat, so 15GB total for $20/month.

    • If I didnt’t get the Ipad Gen 6 deal for $28 with 20Gb and Peace of Mind Data, I would have gotten this deal.

    • Any particular line you smoothed them with ?

I went instore but was told someone just grabbed their last 5.

      • +1

Told them I was on the fence about signing up for the plan and asked if there was any possibility of getting a loyalty discount, as I've been with Telstra for about 10 years. They said they couldn't move on price but they'd add an extra 5GB of data if that would get me over the line.

  • +2

The Telstra Enhanced Tablet 10.1 $14/Month 24 Months with 20GB Data deal looks to still be current. Double the data for $6 pm less but a much cheaper tablet.

  • Does anyone know if Shopback (24 month contract / $140 cashback) would work for this?

    • my bad - shopback T& C's = Not valid on Prepaid, Tablet, lease plans.

  • On chat agent offered $29 per month with Peace of Mind Data / 24 month contract with 20gb data

  • My order got stopped. They requested a lease agreement or copy of my Land Purchase Contract & 1 other document that confirms your occupancy of the premises. They say drivers license isn't good enough. Is this normal for them to request lease or land contract documents?

    • +1

Yeah.. They sent me an email to say that my order had stopped and that I need to call their finance department. It's at this point I realise that I'm dealing with Telstra so I just know that they're going to give me a lot of grief over a $480 tablet so at the point, I just write it off and won't be calling them back.

I've bought so much stuff on finance and have an excellent credit rating so I really don't understand why they need additional information to sell me an obsolete tablet. That email just made me remember how painful they are to deal with so CBF. I've bought millions of phones on contracts.. internet plans.. blah blah blah… so why is it that only Telstra need all that stuff when everyone else just gets on with the sale.

NO THANK YOU HEL$TRA.. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

    • Yep got the same. Was told to take various documents into a store for verification or something. Told them on the phone I won't bother and order cancelled.

Walking past a Telstra store the next day so dropped in and checked on what they needed as most my documents are easily accessible on my phone.

They had no record of my online order so easily sorted out in store and walked out with one.

That online order process in abit counter productive

      • I went into a Telstra shop and they couldn't help me. Asked a mate who works for telstra and he said my order has been flagged as fraudulent.. it seems like every time I deal with telstra there's always some sort of screwup on their end .. thanks Telstra, you saved me $480..

        • The chick I spoke to said that as well at the beginning. Basically she can't do anything at her end and can only forward on my documents for them to complete the online order.

Funnily when she couldn't find any record of my order, even after I showed her the order email, she came to the conclusion that I must have been scammed.

Paraphrasing, she basically said that the order email doesn't look quite right cause the order number started with a number that they don't use. And that the phone number I rang to get the information originally about the stopped order isn't a number given out to the public, even though I rang it on loudspeaker for her and let it play the automated message.

I pointed out that if they were scammers why would they tell me to go into a Telstra store with documents instead of giving them information over the phone. She didn't have an answer for that but stuck to her opinion. I gave up trying to convince her as I was getting the tablet anyway.

  • +1

When go to Telstra page from the link, it says $15 + $25 = $40 for 10GB order. Can someone confirm how it is $20?

    • same here.

  • Sorted

  • Total minimum cost for handest over 36 months is $180 now?
