100% biodegradable - however as they ship from Amazon, it'll probably be in a box filled with plastic padding, inside a bag inside another box that's probably in another bag.

    • +3

Unfortunately we have no influence on how Amazon ships items.
If you like to purchase from our website, go ahead. the item comes in a cardboard box and will be shipped in a cardboard satchel.

      • Your website address is wrong. You might want to fix that up

    • …in a box lined with the harvested fur of puppies.

    • lmao the idiocy of current green virtue-signalling and hypocrisy in a nutshell.

  • +6

So, they made of straw? Nice.

  • +3

This deal both sucks & blows.

  • +3

Those straws are made entirely of natural herbaceous plants (Lepironia articulate).
Lepironia grass grows in alkaline water in the Mekong Delta region. The big plants (1 -2 year) can be used as grass straw, naturally and eco-friendly.
Planting, producing and preserving grasslands helps the farmers maintain this primitive land and preserve the natural ecosystem and rare species.
They are cut by hand and packed in a cardboard box.

    • +7

Lepironia articulata, a sedge type plant, is actually a bit more cosmopolitan than that, growing throughout Asia and parts of the Pacific including northern and eastern Australia. Nonetheless a great idea and best of luck with your business. Rich people and fancy restaurants will probably be all over this, while the rest of us whittle our own from a bale of straw.

      • thank you!

    Made from Grass

Does this mean if you smoke them, do you get high?

    • +9

If you're paying this much for straws made from weeds you're already high.

      • +1

        Stop harshening my buzz man…

      • Interesting point. One straw cost 28 cent right now, you can reuse up to 3 times.
Other alternatives are just not convenient. Nobody wants o buy 50 bamboo straws for a home party and then wash them. That's expensive and time consuming.
Our straws can be disposed in your compost.

      • You should see the price of samphire in Paris restaurants. There's heaps at St Kilda just north of Bolivar…

I prefer plastic. Then after I’ve finished with It I put it in the bin. Problem solved.

    • +2

Same, all the other materials just doesn't feel right. Especially the paper straws, those just feel completely wrong.

      • We understand. Grass Straws have a very similar feeling to plastic. We left them in water for 72hrs and nothing happened, no color changing not sogginess.

  • +2

If it makes u feel good at the end of the day then buy it ;)

  • As someone who can't help but bite straws, I wish I could get this, but they probably won't be very reusable for long.

    • Actually we tried a smoothie the other day, the straw went soft while chewing but didn't split. We rinsed it and resued it. You can reuse the straws depending on the beverage consumed about 3 times.

      • Just make sure you write your name, on your straw.

  • +4

I wonder how safe the straws are considering the Mekong Delta can be pretty contaminated. Arsenic and other trace metals can be found in the Delta region. I wonder if the straws have been tested for trace metals?

    • Good point. And seeing as how it is a natural item, the results would vary between batches.

      • +1

You are right as it is a natural item, the color differs from light brown to a bright green, the diameter varies from slightly as well. Like other products 10% are randomly picked to be tested. This happens for any batch. The expire date is April 2020.

    • Maybe @CanDealOnline can provide some further insight?

      • +2

Thank you for your questions. The straws have been tested by SGS in January just before we imported. No metals, mold or bacteria that could cause harm were found. Customers that have tried the product were extremely pleased with the quality.

    • OTOH wouldn't it be nice if these new trends were lucrative enough that the Mekong Delta was better used for green industry rather than chemical dumping industry

  • Made from grass? That's not going to help my hay fever

  • +2

Because picking up the glass and drink from it is so last year.

    Nope.

No deal since straws are free at maccas you bunch of tree hugging climate alarmist paranoid delusional freaks

    • +4

Lol this isn't even for climate change.. it is for the marine life.

Look up turtle gets straw stuck in nose.. it is horrible.

Also common sense to invest in things that can biodegrade now unless you want to live in a landfill which I don't.

I prefer to live without trash.

        Cocaine is a gateway drug.
