Thanks. Looking for a 65 inches one.

      • not in myer store anymore

    • assuming you are in sydney. HN Wiley park had one left (brand new) for $2495 on Monday and managed to bargain for free delivery, also campbelltown and somewhere else had some.
TGG had display model in artarmon and somewhere else for ~2300.

  • Would be keen to know if I should go for this one or the 65 inch of oled B8. Both will be similar in price

    • The Hisense 65" OLED was going for $1999 the other day after an eBay sale. Would you consider buying a Hisense?

      • I'm a bit sceptical as it is a brand I have not been familiar with in the past. Also, I believe it will require a good sound system to support it.

FWIW the TV will be in the living room and will be 3 m from the couch. Rtings recommends a 68" for that distance.

        • +2

If you change your mind, $1999 here with code PYRO20 https://tinyurl.com/y4hgmhef

Hisense comes with 3 year warranty too.

        • +1

Rtings recommends a 68" for that distance.

Depends what you read, apparently 8 foot from TV is a good minimum for a 65" not much more for a 75"

        • +1

If you look at the table at rtings, 3 m from the couch would be between 70" (2.9m) to 75" (3.1m), based on the 30 degrees field of view for mixed usage.

But if you look at 40 degrees field of view for cinematic experience, you need to be much closer (or much bigger screen)

I'd say go with the 75" Sony rather than the 65" B8, as I read somewhere OLED is better for dark environment

    • +4

The B8 will offer you a better picture, but at the cost of stepping down from 75" to 65". The Sony will use about double the electricity of the 65" Oled, but hey it's huge and you don't have to worry about burn in. You just need to weigh up the pros and cons of each, look at what you require from a TV and then make a decision from that.

Rtings rate the B8 as the best TV to get, with the Sony X9000F (X900 overseas) as the best mid range TV.

This. I bought mine around the start of the year for $3100 delivered! I absolutely love it. The difference for me was going in store and actually standing in front of them. I couldn't noticeably tell any difference between the LG and Sony. The Samsung menus annoyed me and the Hisense didn't even come close (PQ & lag being the main ones), a TV I was considering given the price differences like for like. It definitely was an eye opener for me and a good get-what-you-pay-for reminder.

I've been very happy with ours, it sits on a very large wall with about 4-4.1m viewing distance and now that I have it in place, a 65 inch would have looked silly. Go the bigger size if you can. Viewing distance is subjective but I have a 120 inch projector that comes down in front of it for the same viewing distance and it's still perfect so just keep that in mind.

I think even at 3m the viewing would be beautiful. Factor in having some good content also because at 65 and 75 Inch, FTA doesn't do them justice. Anything less than 1080 is mediocre at best.

Light and burn in was also a concern of ours. Not having to watch in complete darkness all the time complements my 4k projector whereas an OLED would have put it in the same boat. Shutters down, lights off kind of thing, which gets old quick!

        • Hey .. do you have a receipt for $3100 delivered?

          • @JunkCap: Good luck, it was months ago and a few different price match guarantees to make it happen. 3200 should definitely be achievable but isn't toondofferent to the current deal anyway. 👍

Just dug out my receipt, it was a combination of a good guys sale, plus a price match guarantee that good guys gave me a credit for after the fact. Price was $3145 on the TV, $55 delivery (as it has to be ticketed so $3200 delivered), then a price beat guarantee credit of $95 as the original price I paid was $3295 - not the 120% they quote but I was happy to just get the credit difference anyway.

Anywhere near $3200 is a great price for this TV. As stated, you'd be lucky to get below that as my case was a result of a price beat guarantee.

      • Well you don't really need to worry about burn in according to rtings too:

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/real-life-oled-burn-in-test

        • +2

That's why I didn't/dont/never bother with rtings, it's still prevelant and not going for an OLED allowed me to have a) a bigger screen, b) no hassles of needing a dark room (all the time) c) no burn in myths/truths there may be and d) profit??? 🤷‍♂️

Now that I have the larger screen, I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest. Larger screen was the better choice by a mile. Of course if budget wasn't a problem, you probably wouldn't be on OzBargain and probably wouldn't be looking at either of these displays.

          I made my own choice/opinion.

          • @db87: How do you find looking at a wide angle to the side?
            Is it an real
            issue at all?

            • +1

@entropysbane: See my posts down the page. Posted a few photos and comments for those wondering about viewing distance and angles. 👍

    • +4

Uh the 65 OLED vs 75 LCD question again :)

Simply boils down to the room you are putting it in…. if it's particularly bright it's a no brainer to go with the LCD, if it's a big room even more so.

      • Yes it is the age old question hehe. It is a big room with 3.2 m distance between couch and tv screen, also wall to wall glass windows on one side.

        • +1

          LCD then…

        • See my comment above. If you have shutters and black out your room, OLED can still be an option but for just regular viewing (anything other than movies) then it would get annoying pretty quick and limits your use and enjoyment of the TV.

I was in exactly the same boat a few months ago and my decision was made when I went in store and sized them all - I spent a good 3 hours playing with them. See my reply a few comments back. 👍

      • +2

I know people that have a 65" B8 in a big room with lots of light and it has no problems. Unless you room is flooded with light constantly and you watch the TV at 1pm all the time, I doubt you'll have issue with OLED.

The size factor is another thing. They have a big room and the 65" seems like a nice reasonable sized TV for it. I just recently got a 55" OLED for my little lounge room and it looks huge. So if you have a big space and want a TV to look like a BIG TV. Then get a 75".

I have never known a person to regret getting the biggest TV they could afford.

      • -2

These LCD have poor viewing angles, not good at all when sitting off center such as in a wide room.

    • +2

The OLED will have better picture (gorgeous colour, amazing blacks and contrast) in a dim environment and better viewing angles.
With the 75" X900F, you do get 33% more screen and it is much brighter (upto 100% more in SDR, upto 50% more in HDR) so is better for a brighter room (don't have it on 100% brightness in a dark room - the blooming can annoy, your retinas will be toast), and no burn risk if you love leaving the TV on for background noise.

So it really depends on what your you're going to use it for. If you can keep the curtains closed, I would go OLED. If you're using it in a large, bright room, with more FTA TV / HD streaming than 4K UHD movies, then I would go with the Sony.

      • In order of preference it will be pS4 pro gaming and movies via streaming Netflix or amazon (upgrading to a 4K account).

        • Same boat. The ps4 looks beautiful on my Sony 75 X9000F. If you have fox or watch TV series (netflix/Stan) or the odd FTA news/TV show, you'll want the Sony. The OLED will frustrate you and not return an as enjoyable experience IMO. If you have a 2nd (or even 3rd/4th/5th) TV (back to the future reference? 😂) then this might be the way you manage that but if it's going to be your only TV then do consider the above.

          • @db87: Why will the OLED frustrate you?

Upscaling on the LGs are fantastic (I have a C9). Kayo, Netflix, Stan all look perfect on mine. I don't know about Sony LCD/LEDs but on their OLED they have higher responsiveness lag than the LG's

            • @serpserpserp: The need for a dark room for it to perform at its optimum. I'm not just talking daytime either. I personally don't always sit in a dark room to watch TV and on many occasions even have the lights on dim - to me it's more comfortable for any viewing other than movies. Even when gaming, a bit of fill-light helps the eyes from straining, and that's my point. At that stage, an OLED isn't getting used to its full potential so the difference is negliable. Hence, get the bigger TV as you won't notice the difference.

You'll always notice the difference in size! I'd take size over a little bit of PQ any day of the week.

              • @db87: To whoever negged me, cheers, perfect use! …

I'm not going to waste any more of my time justifying YOUR purchase when it's safe to assume you're an OLED owner.

I'll also stop providing positive/real life info regarding the posted TV to HELP people make a decision.

I'll just post this and reiterate my comment. It's prevelant and you're paying for tech that I believe isn't fully matured hence, the inconsistencies. End of.

                https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.zdnet.com/google-amp/articl…

                • @db87: I didn't neg you btw.

But I think you need a balanced view on the OLED burn in stories and I think we can all trust the rtings guys:

                  https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/real-life-oled-burn-in-test

Reading the article you posted looks like they have the same table format on the TV since it was turned on for 24/7. I think that would easily caused burn in on any OLED. But I don't think that is a real world usage for most people.

              • +2

                @db87:

The need for a dark room for it to perform at its optimum.

I think this line of thinking is a real trap out there now just like the "burn in" idea. If you watch reviews of the new OLEDs and the good ones against the vs of the LED/LCD/QLED etc. You'll find that OLEDs perform right on par on dim/normal lighting and during the day. In super bright glary rooms yes you will see reflections, but you'll also see those on the QLEDs (just not as much). But most people don't live in floor to ceiling glass high rises or under horrible office lighting like you see in a lot of the reviews dissing OLEDs.
Personally I have a lounge with floor to almost ceiling windows right behind the viewing angle of the TV watcher and I've had no glare issues yet.

I think the biggest thing is preference. HDR is tremendous on QLED/OLEDS/new LEDs. On OLEDs you get better PQ overall given the inky blacks and in movies with lots of dark scenes, less dithering and haloing. What you get on a QLED is brighter HDR scenes when there is lots of light in the shot. So if you want max brightness on an already bright scene than the QLEDs are for you, but you'll trade performance for dark scenes. Personally when watch the same content on a OLED and then a QLED or the like (not side by side) you will not notice the difference. But I do like watching a lot of sci-fi content and the like so I really prefer my inky blacks and that is why I went with OLED.

But hey, anyone would be happy with any high performing 2019 TV. The differences in real world view are really hard pick between them.

    • +2

I have both and have used them for about a month. Love them both. For me, the extra 10 inch outweighs the better image quality you get from the OLED. Either way, can't go wrong.

  • I did the research on ratings as well and it is a bit of a mindf$#@ tbh. I want the size but what am I sacrificing.

Btw what's the best price on the LG oled 65B8 at the moment.

    • +4

Picture quality, viewing angles, perfect blacks, input lag, power consumption.

    • +1

      You are sacrificing black levels.

  • DON'T BUY IT!!!

Sony with Android has a delay communication problem.
When I bought my Samsung QLED 65 Q7FN, the JB-HIFI who sold it to me, bought the Sony smart TV with Android and it is not great.
Unless you don't mind it at all.
With that money, you can buy a much better TV in so many ways.

    • +2

I attached an nvidia shield. Dont use the built in smart functions for any tv lol. Get a shield

      • Pretty much. The people using the menus for such a thing go hand in hand with multiple other devices so it's a bit of a moot point.

Mine lives on foxtel 90% of the time so the menus don't even get used and when it does, it's only for a source change.

I was a skeptic at the start for the same reason but as far as usability, it doesn't effect the experience in any great way. I think the review sites tend to bash this system more than necessary and on saying that, the positives for an Android base are greater than the negatives and being stuck with a proprietary OS.

      • I use the smart functions a lot, especially to watch Netflix, Youtube in 4k and its system, Tizen OS — QLED Samsung — Is just perfect!
I also have a tablet connect to it to enjoy Popcorn, etc.

No delays, it is crazy the response. no problems at all.
I used to say that smart functions were rubbish. My QLED showed me otherwise.
        Just love it.

        • And also significantly less apps, on Samsung you are limited only to what they have.
Android has a lot more, one streaming app Im after for example isn't on Samsung OS

The 2019 model is really snappy and responsive so Android tv going forward can only get better

          • @OCD Completionist: We are talking about TV, if you wanna install a hell of apps, buy a mobile phone, tablet.
            People…….

            • @ratoloko: How is the streaming app Im after that is only on the Google play store any lesser than your so called Netflix and Youtube viewing? Kayo Sports is another popular app that 'people' are after which isn't available on Samsung or other smart tv's atm. You make it seem as if apps automatically = silly games and Facebook. People…

Rather save myself some money and not have to buy an extra android box or Apple TV

              • @OCD Completionist: This is why I have a goddamn tablet connect to my TV.
So I can access anything else such as Popcorn, your so loved Kayo Sports, I can even fix problems in my job —- I work with technology —- through the tablet connected to the TV.

                Anyways….

    • Not as snappy as compared to say an android phone but still very usable.
Great if your looking at installing 3rd party apps which run seamlessly from the operating system rather then needing a whole new device.

    • I have a Sony with Android and there is no delay at all.

  • Weighing up the 75 inch models of x900f vs x850f. Rtings favours the x900 in general, but one person at my house is going to be consistently viewing on a ~25 degree angle, and the x850f handles angles better, and also the x850f would be maybe $300-$400 cheaper if I hopped on this deal. Keen for advice from anyone knowledgeable in these matters.

    • +5

X90F @ ~500mm off the wall and ~500mm from closest edge. Content is a questionable 1080 "Foxtel HD", so a better source=better output.

I can't imagine the experience would be any better on even the best screen in the world, not at these angles anyway. It's hard enough trying to make out what's going on let alone worrying about PQ. 🤷‍♂️

I can't get a wider shot as I have walls either side but even at about 45 degrees where my room opens up, the PQ isn't any different, perfectly acceptable. YMMV.

      TEST 1

      TEST 2

      TEST 3

      Enjoy!

      • Thanks mate! It looks pretty decent even at those angles, all things considered. Given I'm contemplating a much less extreme angle (25 degrees, or at worst 50 degrees if we've got friends over and put another chair on the side) it seems I'd likely be OK with the x90f.

        • +7

This is why I take review sites with a grain of salt. You can only really strip out the base facts, the rest is obviously subjective but even then over scrutinised, controlled stats. I'm into photography and gear reviews are no different. Tech is leaps and bounds ahead of where it used to be so I think the excess amount of info just confuses people these days.

Here's a shot at the furthest point of my room which would be a good 5-6m away. TV wall is 3.5m wide and just under 2m from benchtop to lowest bulkhead. Seating position to centre of couch is about 4.1m the reflections are only an issue from my kitchen if the sliding door is open and I'm standing where I took the photo - which I never watch TV from there anyway. 2nd shot is widest angle from my couch. 4.1-4.2m away, about 1700mm off centre.

          Angle 1
          Angle 2

Light in room is filtered daylight through sheer blinds.

          👍

Ordered X90F 75” at JB HIFI. They beat HNs $350 gift card offer by offering it for $3145. Used wicked Wednesday 5% making it $2987. Used Suncorp 5% to get $2000 worth of gift cards, and lumo for another $1000. Delivery $59 and extended warranty 3yr (2.5yr ACL + 3y) $279. Ended up paying $3185 for a ticket price of $3833. Good enough I think. I had $200 JB gift card from Telstra mobile plan deal so used it here.

    • +1

Voted for ozbargainer of the year move 🤣

    • What's wicked Wednesday? They dropped another 5% on an already price beat item?

      Lumo?? What's that?

      • Wicked Wednesday: JB has wicked Wednesday deal of 5% off all ticket price for users that sign up on the website. One day thing. I signed using new email. Don’t tell salesman that you are planning to use it. Just scan the code at checkout and it will work. It doesn’t work in delivery / extended warranty etc, just price of item.

When buying JB hifi gift cards 5% off via Suncorp, there is a daily limit of 1k. Got a friend to buy another 1k, still needed more so I used Lumo Energy offer. It’s same 5% but they charge 1% credit card fee (I used AmEx for maximum points)

  • So I ended up buying the LG 65" UM7600 for $1355 from the Google Guys VIP sale yesterday. Planning to install it today. Wish me luck and fingers crossed
