43” Hisense UHD TV or Xbox One X 1TB or iPad 6th Gen 128GB Wi-Fi on Telstra $65 Plan (12 Months, 60GB, U/L Calls/SMS) @ JB Hi-Fi

2500

Another ridiculous deal from JB HiFi, available for new and port in activations. Your choice of either:

  • Hisense 43” UHD LED TV ($745);
  • Xbox One X 1TB Console ($499); or
  • iPad 128GB WiFi 6th Gen ($539)

On the JB HiFi Telstra $65 plan for 12 months (includes 60GB data, unlimited calls and SMS, etc.).

Several punters have been successful in switching over to the Telstra $69 BYO Plan with $20 of monthly discounts (making the plan only $49 per month). Nice work OzFam. :)

Says "Per month" so it's safe to assume it should be 30 days, especially considering it's a BYO contract plan.

  • Just confirming you still don't get the $500 credit towards new phone?

  • +5

Hey, just a thought… Is this the cheapest way to get an Xbox One X? Cancellation fee straight up is $390! Like with S10e/P30 deal, could you cancel right away and get the Xbox?

      Following….

    • Interesting… haha…

    • I smell a forum post…

    • Hey, just wondering since I've never had to cancel a Telstra contract before. If I were to take this deal and cancel, say, 6 months from now, would the cancellation fee still be $390 or would it be lower since I'm halfway through the deal?

      • In the term and condition pdf, it says cancellation fee is $390.

      • The cancellation fee is usually 50% of the total minimum cost of the plan, for the first 6 months, then it starts to go down…

So, in this case it will (or should, going by my past experience) be 780/2=390 for the first 6 months.

        • Cancellation fee is 130 my current plan is $39 a month for 35 gig assuming I can't get any discounts the new plan would be 65 so I $25 difference I don't need the extra data so I would think of the difference as payment for whatever product I chose. TV as example would be $300 because the difference is $25 a month x12. Plus $130 to cancel so I would be looking at around $430 for the television.

@Sammy Boi: Looks like you got it all planned out, haha.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: I'm just curious to know if it's possible to get JB to waive cancellation if you re-contract and can you get the deal. After checking my current cancellation fee I know it says I can re-contract for nothing right now. so only difference at JB would be getting a television :) sounds too good to be true.

              • @Sammy Boi: I think it has to be a new line or port in

                • @snvl: I wonder if I can just cancel my contract go and make a new contract and keep my number?

      • +2

I believe it's half of whatever remaining months you have. So in 6 months it would be half of remaining cost.

        • +1

Buddy you are on point I just did a little random maths in my head and that would probably be exactly right. I got six months left I paid 39 a month and my cancellation is about 130

    • Interesting … and you can keep the device?

      • +2

You wouldn't cancel it right there, in the store. You'd come back home, buy Hitman 2 from the Amazon deal, wait for the delivery, play it for a few hours and then call em up and cancel the plan.

Besides, pretty sure JB's got nothing to do with it once you sign up. You're Telstra's problem after that.

Edit: Cut the Hitman 2 part out, that deal expired.

        • Exactly. You could even just cancel through live chat.

      • +2

JB is not going to know, they'll get their kickback and everyone's happy. Maybe you could try switching to the $59 dollar plan first though so that the cancellation fee is lower.

        • What about the fee for the first month? If that’s charged then it’ll be $65 + cancellation fee right?

          • @tobi3421: I wouldn't think so. It should come off it. Do you even pay upfront? When I signed up previously I didn't have to pay anything upfront. Maybe cause I had another service with Telstra?

    • +2

Not gonna lie mate, that's a great idea. Now I'm tempted…

Also, there's technically nothing wrong with this. But for your sake, maybe don't actually tell your idea to JB and Telstra to avoid unnecessarily creating an issue which unfortunately can sometimes happen depending on the store manager.

      • lol yeah probably not a good idea if a lot of people get to do this. Or if you cancelled immediately.

      • Hey Shekster - would this deal possibly work if I'm currently on a BYOD plan (ie not contracted, just month by month) but I sign up to a contract? Cheers

        • +1

You'd need to be either a new customer or creating a new service. Unfortunately you won't be eligible if you've got a number on a current BYOD Telstra plan and want to sign up to a new contract.

I'm not really allowed to advocate a particular method which is quite popular amongst OzB which involves leaving Telstra and returning back, however that may seem appealing in your situation…

However if you're asking about doing what Nodeahs is proposing, then yes you could simply sign up to a new service with a new number (you won't even care about the new number as you'll be cancelling the service almost immediately after receiving the free Xbox.

          • @Shekster: lol thanks - I am not keen to port out/in, to be honest. I've been looking for an iPad for ages and thought I could just upgrade my current plan and score an iPad, with some sweet sweet extra data. Though, I'm struggling currently to even get close to using the 35GB I have, haha. Telstra's plans are just so good at the moment.

  • has anyone tried getting $10 off the $45/m plan from the telstra live chat?

    • It's possible was offered, as I mentioned already have Telstra phone internet bundle.

      • What offer is this? I'm interested.

Edit: found it! Gotta love ozbargain. Chatting to live support now to try and get $10 off!

Success! This is amazing. I'm now on $35 a month.

        • Were you on the $45 plan initially and then just now asked for a further discount?

    • I tried, but she offered only $5 per month discount

  • Still available today with $500 gift card? ,thanks

  • I'm currently under BYO contract for six months my cancellation fee is around $130 what would be the process for getting this deal?
I want to keep my number.

Can I port my number over to like a two dollar Sim say Vodafone or Optus? While I'm still under contract I have no idea how that works.

Or do I have to cancel my service with Telstra first?
And what happens if I cancel my service with Telstra first what happens to my number am I still able to port it over?

  • I'm out of contract on the Go Mobile Plus BYO plan. Any chance of getting this deal with or without porting out first?

  • Waiting for PS5 next year.

    • This is a 12 month contract, so by the time you've finished waiting for PS5 (for what reason, for a phone deal to include a PS5?), you'd already be at least 6mths done on this one.
Probably finished by the time any kind of PS5 deals are out.

  • Is it possible to get this offer from Telstra store or online JB HiFi . Unfortunately being in a place without any jb stores wondering if there's any way to take advantage of this offer or the previous one for $500 gift card.

    • Sadly no on the ad it says in store only

  • Op can you please elaborate what is 10$ online discount and $10 new service credit. As far as I know, they gives you $10 port in discount.

    • Yeh i'm interested in knowing this too. Can I move over to the $49 plan then apply $10 online discount and $10 new service credit to make it $29 per month??

      • +1

The $49 plan is already inclusive of those discounts. Originally a $69pm plan.

    • If you go to the Telstra website on the sim only plans you can see the $49 plan it inclusive of 2 x $10 discounts (originally $69pm). :)

    • But if you have sign up with JB.. you are already with Telstra.

Where is the new port in?.

      • Technically you're correct - worked for me, however. That's not to say it will work for you, so my comments are anecdotal only.

  • -1

P.s. I post the same deal yesterday and was immediately removed by moderators. How come this is still live? Also I believe, most of us will not go for updated deals posted long time ago.so, deals like this need separate post. Thanks

  • Can I move over to the $49 plan then apply $10 online discount and $10 new service credit to make it $29 per month??

    • Both $10 are the same

      • $39 per month is still good~~

  • The Hisense TV is a series 6 and it's more expensive than Sony. WOW

    • Looks to be the newest model

  • What happens if you sign up to the plan and cancel it after a month or two? Do you get to keep bonus item for $228?

    $49 x 2 + $130 (Cancelation Fee) = $228

    • Sorry that was just my cancellation fee everybody is different depending on the price of the plan I believe and the period of time

  • Has anyone had experience negotiating different bonus item? For example, a slightly cheaper but bigger tv.

    • Get the $500 gift card instead then https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/462105

    • I'd be more interested in upgrading to a larger more expensive tv, like a 49" or 55".
Would be interested in putting the value of the tv towards the price of the larger one and pay the difference .

      • I don’t they’ll they’ll give you anywhere near the $750 for a new TV - just the $500

  • +1

I've spoken to staff at JB and I've just spent the last two hours chatting with Telstra don't ask me how I have the time to do this but if you guys are questions just comment below

    • Were you able to “upgrade” to the $49 plan?

      • No but I have a transcript that proves I was offered it. my situation is one where I want to keep my number and I still have contract for six months. So I'll probably pay the $130 to get out of it

    • were u able to manage to $49 deal ?, it's really tempting if i can manage to $49 deal :P

      • I was offered it. To be honest I think it's a bit of a hit and miss still. I even showed them what I wanted and showed them that JB add. she said on our end we can offer you $20 a month discount to bring it down to 49. Though I don't know how much I trust them. I kept the transcript for that reason

        • Can I use the price of the tv to offset a purchase of a more organised alliance expensive tv, or were these tv's more of a bulk buy they got for this deal?

          • @2023: Sorry what do you mean by organised alliance expensive tv? Even though the TV a 6 series it seems to be a new model for 2019 I don't believe they did a 43 in the latest series. You can get a $500 voucher towards a bigger TV but I'm not sure about anything better at 43 inch. Seems to have good technology even compared to my Sony 4K of the same size. Main difference would be the display light this one being directly iit where Sony has had a thing for edge lit. It's possible they made a big purchase to offset some of the cost but neither this TV the Xbox or the iPad look to be products they would be trying to flog off. Telstra must be chucking these guys a good cut

            • @Sammy Boi: I have no idea sorry, I don't remember typing that or can even think what I was intending to type in place of 'organised alliance' haha

I'm heading in today to do a deal, will ask if its locked to that tv or if I could do a deal on something larger. In the end, 43" is a good replacement for the aging bedroom tv.

              • @2023: I'm heading in to do the same in a couple of hours I wish us both luck. I'm gonna stick with that TV though looks nice and has good specs even compared to my Sony

  • This is a pretty good deal if you want an iPad or TV for whatever the difference of this plan is over your current one. But is the real MVP of this deal the $45 plan with the $200 gift card? Noting you get all the telstra extra as well (NRL/AFL streaming) making it better than my current Boost deal. But the real kicker is if you could use the 2 port in credit deals through Telstra live chat. If it were to work out? Would that make the plan $25 a month? If this is at all possible, has anyone had any luck with it?

    • Also I understand boost customers are exempted. Has anyone successfully ported over to them even though they were a boost customer?

    • This is off Telstra website, the $49 "Price includes $10 credit plus, additional $10 credit for new activiations. (normally $69 a month)"

Still can't understand if you have move to JB, whom are Telstra reseller, how can you claim new port in when you are on Telstra network now.

      • At the time my offer was a $59 plan with $10 online discount. I asked the live chat consultant and because I came from Optus to Telstra's JB deal, they let me have the $10 port in credit and PoM data; bringing it down to $49 a month. Others were not as successful, so I always suggest that your results may vary. I don't think you'll be able to get the $49 plan down any more than it already is.

        • I'm happy with the $49 plus the 4k tv to be honest. But I just don't want to sign in with JB, call Telstra and be told that I'm already on their network and thus, do not qualify for the $10 port in and online deal.

Basically, I can't see how you can sweet talk them to drop from $65 to $49…

          • @PuppieWayne: It worked for me. Got the TV deal and asked Telstra if they can change me to the $69 plan with $20 discount. They gave me a list of options to choose from! Lol

  • Any chance you can choose the TV and return it immediately for credit? Lol Put it towards something better…

  • just did a speed test on telstra and surprisingly got over 350mb per/S download speed, are they testing the 5g on 4g frequencies? Lol 😂 here is the proof

    • depends what phone you have … prolly have a gigabit class modem in your phone. :)

  • Anyone able to then upgrade to the 69 plan via Telstra to get the 2g international data and free international calls?

    • yep

  • Do we sign up to this plan at JB first before contacting Telstra about the potential discount? Or at the same time?

    • Sign up at JB and then jump on Live Chat to switch plans. :) … YRMV depending on the chat consultant.

      • Do we sign up to the $65 plan in store? Or is there a cheaper one?

I'm assuming it's the 65 plan and hope for the best on whether we could get it lower?

        • To be eligible for the listed items it must be the $65pm plan, otherwise you can just get a $200 gift card with a $45 plan for 40GB. The $45 deal, I believe, is port in only.

          • +1

            @wellzi: Thanks! I've upvoted.

So I will go into JB, sign up to the $65 plan, come home and go on live chat and try to see if I can get $10 & $10 discounts on my plan?

About to head out to do this, thanks again

            • @Slut: No worries - the deal is pretty good regardless of whether you can get onto the $49 plan, but just note that it's possible you may be rejected from both $10 discounts. :) … I wish you luck!

              • @wellzi: I just cancelled my service at Optus, but told them to wait on it as I want to port my number over. Anyone know the time frame it takes to do this?

                Does JB just call Optus?

                • @Slut: When I got the plan at JBHifi on Friday it took about 5 seconds to switch over. Porting from Kogan, which they said may take longer because it's a third party seller. So very rare it would take long.

            • @Slut: Let us know how you go buddy I plan on doing the same thing and then canceling my current contract and transferring the number confirmed with tech support they will do it

              • @Sammy Boi: I’ll have to do it tomorrow as I got served at 4:45pm, 16 mins prior to close and they said because it’s a Sunday, ports might take a while

                • @Slut: Yeah I'm gonna head in and try my luck

  • +1

Hi everyone. Went in today to Broadway JB-HI-FI and signed into the 12 month contract. I thought I'd have to per $200 up front for the Samsung Note 8 as per the post and the internal img, but for some reason the staff said it was free. I had a look at the receipt and it said $700 gift card to deduct the Samsung Note 8 (not sure if this only applies to the Samsung). Just sharing my experience.

    • Can you please share the receipt, it will be very helpful.
