Haha, funny. First it's BOGOF, now its 50% off. So basically the same deal! Good prices nonetheless.

    • I got excited when I saw it, until I read up to 50% off..

otherwise it was $250 to Honolulu :(

Be warned - Jetstar have changed their structure and now charge extra for everything! My $29 flights quickly became $55 each - here's what I was prompted to pay extra for with my MEL - SYD flight.

    Baggage - 15kg for $12, 20kg for $18, etc.
Seat Selection - $4+ per passenger.
    Premium Boarding - $4.
Booking/Payment Fee - $15 (unless you have a Jetstar Mastercard).

      • They have always charged extra for baggage, $10 for domestic, $15 for international. So does every other LCC airline
      • Seat selection is optional, you don't have to choose your seat beforehand. Just click on skip assigning seat
      • Premium boarding is optional, you can just get there early and stand in front of the counter (instead of taking a seat) if you want to get on before the masses, like we always had before they introduced this fee
      • Booking fee has always been charged, not like that's a surprise. Every other LCC airline charges a booking fee too, even "full service premium airline" like Qantas ($7.70!)

Seriously, I don't understand why people complain that their $29 fare goes up to $55, when it's still cheaper than what you get on a full service airline. And it's not like you CAN'T get the $29 fare, you just have to do it "their way". I have flown many $39/$49/$59 fares from Sydney to/from Brisbane/Melbourne. I just made sure I have no check-in luggage, pay by POLi/DD or their "designated card", check in via the web, and don't bother with seat pre-selection. They are giving you a CHOICE, unlike Sydney/Melbourne airport parking, where you don't have a choice and have to pay their exorbitant rate or don't park at all.

      • They have always charged extra for baggage,

I almost booked last night on the 2 for 1 deal….
        Last night 15kg was $8……

However…. booked today and got better dates :)

      • Did my comment sound like a complaint? You seriously need to chill out a bit.

I was just alerting people not familiar with flying budget carriers to the extra charges that were introduced/changed by Jetstar very recently. For example, the old rate of $10 for 20kg of checked baggage has now become $18 (you can't always travel with carry-on only).

It's still a great deal, but it's gonna cost you a little more than what's advertised no matter what.

        • It's not just budget airlines doing this extra for this and that. I was booking my mother in law's flight on Qantas from the UK just now and Qantas is now charging for seat selection too!? $20 just to select a regular seat, one way; I think she can just get what she gets!

    Good prices on many flights.

I scored SYD-KIX (Sydney to Osaka) via OOL (Gold Coast) for $580 in, what they call, Business Class.

I decided to go with their Business Class fare (really premium economy when compared to full-service carriers) because with all the extra charges to make the economy ticket actually decent to travel on (add for baggage, meals, extra leg room, etc.) was going to end up around $400 anyway!

Although I'm kind of disappointed with the new Business Class fare structure, as the old StarClass fare included Qantas Club lounge access and QFF points and SCs. Now you have to pay an exorbitant charge for these extras! Pity really.

  • SO are the fares already 50% off? Because i can't find a SYD-MEL for $27

    • Ahhh thats because its for Avalon AKA bumhole of melbourne

      • +1

        $27 is SYD-AVV, not MEL
And the fares are "up to" 50% off, on "selected fares" during the "promotional travel period", and "until sold out". ;)

  • Anyone know how much their A330 upgrades are these days?

  • I just bought Gold Coast - Osaka for $1001 return for 2 people, dep Nov 21 ret Dec 6 :) went the exact same dates last year and had a blast, only cost us $968 then though. Damn new baggage fees/seat selection fees! ;)
Oh well, should make up the difference with the higher dollar to the Yen anyway

  • oops

  • bought sydney to ho chi minh return for $568

    • heh, I always found it funny how the airport code is still SGN. I mean c'mon, the war ended over 30 years ago. Time to update the the codes. HCM anyone?
