Oppo Reno 10x Zoom $399 Upfront with Telstra $65 12M Plan + Bose Soundsport Free Wireless Headphones @ JB Hi-Fi (Instore)

380

Considering the cost of this new phone which sells for $1199, this is a ripper deal with a $800 discount (better than a $500 GC)! Color OS may not be for everyone though!

Bear in mind, this is NOT the 5G model selling for $1499!

Plan inclusions: Unlimited National calls & SMS | 60GB Data | No International calls included.

Credit to Doweyy for the link. You can also claim the Bose Soundsport Free Wireless Headphones via redemption here if purchased before 14/07/2019!

The headphones go for about $200 when on Sale!

As per this comment, people have changed to the new BYO month to month plan with no ETC.

    • The question now becomes are they going to give grief when cancelling or porting out?

      • Didn't for me just asked once then cancelled it all for me

    • Will give this a go today and share my experience :)

  • Im terrible with this stuff but prob gonna go in and do this today. Although i have been with telstra for 15+ years that was under my mums name/account and never got my own cuz i like the number. She just gets the bills and i pay them. So i would technically be a new customer

Can i just walk in and ask for this deal and they will sort it or do i have to go get a non telstra prepaid sim set up and take it in with me to get it ported? Then i go home and get telstra to change it to the $50 month to month plan and get those free headphones obviously. Plus get my number off mums account cancelled/changed to prepaid? so im not paying 2 bills

    Anything im missing?

    • I think you're going to have to do the latter, as all JB hi fi will be able to do is sell you the phone and set you up on the Telstra phone plan. The rest is all through Telstra, because if you ask the JB hi fi sales person they are going to tell you it's a 12 month contract and that there will be an early termination fee but its just not the case on Telstra's end.

They way you specified above would work, the only other way I could think of would be to first port your current Telstra number under your mum's name to a different mobile company using one of those $2 Sims and then taking that to JB hi fi and getting them to port that number back to telstra. That's if you want to keep that number as you said that you liked it and then saves you the hassle of having to talk to Telstra later about changing that plan. You just have to make sure that before you port your current number away from Telstra that you're not in a plan where you would have to pay out the remaining balance, like a plan with the inclusion of a phone, or you could get caught out with that.

    • Also if you are looking to cancel the plan shortly like most here, it would be better to bring your mum as an existing Telstra customer which greatly simplies the sign up process and avoid another credit check.

JB Staff advised there will be ETCs so I didnt go ahead. He warned even if they didn’t mention it, you will get ETC

    • Of course JB will say that, no point to ask that just go ahead if you game enough.

      • -3

JB staff is an OzB user also.. he knows about this and mentioned ETC may apply regardless of the loophole..

I took the chance even if I stated above that i wouldn’t. I was told by Telstra rep via live chat, in verbatim. “there won’t be any charge for this one that I can assure”. I reconfirmed by asking “no ETC fees”. Rep said “Correct.” Then I went ahead with the change. Took a screenshot and emailed the transcript to me as well as evidence. The rep was super nice too, no questions asked really apart from which one do I want to change to.

That was almost 23 hrs ago. He said the changes will take up to 48 hrs to occur. My telstra account now shows that I am ‘out of contract’ and the amount that I will pay is $0 for early termination. My data allowance has changed as well according to the month to month plan that I selected. Just waiting for the Plan name itself to change, atm it is still JB 12 month BYO.

      Hope that helps.

  • The whole reason this is possible is because officially when you change from the 12 month byo plan (which is what JBHiFi plan is) you are supposed to get charged a ETC but Telstra can decide whether to waive it or not.

  • Anyone know if Telstra chat still online this weekend?

    • 24/7

      • Just went to JB hi-fi and ported in my number. After 5 mins it's gone through. Then loaded up Telstra chat and switched to the $60 monthly plan. confirmed there is no penalty or fees involved. All good so far but will wait and see when the plan name changes in app tomorrow or Monday.

  • To be honest I think the phone is really not worth the rrp of 1.2k compared to something like the k20 pro.

    • fresh on the market, what do you expect, 800? wait for half a year at least

      • An LG would be half price in 3 months lol

Does anyone know if activating a sim card works on a Sunday? I want to give this a try but didn't want to waste time and money to buy a sim if it doesn't work.

    • Not working on Sunday. You can submit the port today but you will need to wait till monday morning to find out.

      • JB Hi Fi will only give you the phone after the port in activated. Is there a risk Telstra stops allowing moving from 12 months contract plan to month to month on Monday?

        • Not necessarily, u can try another store and they might not care about the porting status according to my own experience.

  • -1

Looks like it's all over as it's an in store buy only and no stock available in store as per JBHiFi website. Ends Sunday too.

    • Interestingly, there were no stocks available except for one store around me last Friday. But when I rang the store that had the stock for ocean green only, I was told to try other stores to check for jet black. I did, and found stocks of the jet black and the ocean green when JB Hifi Online store said no stock. So best to ring specific stores and see what they have 😊

      • Plenty stock at Sydney cbd stores yesterday. I got mine from the world square store and they have a few more left.

  • +1

    Has anyone done this today?

    • U can just go ahead and give it a try. I was told that if I somehow changed my mind I could bring the phone back for a refund. I suppose that means I could get out of the contract too.

      • Thanks for that. I might now go ahead and sign up. I wouldn't propbably go for either an Oppo phone or Telstra plan otherwise.

  • Oh no, I just found out about this, and it ends tonight. FML

  • Its over guys. I'm now on prepaid….

    • What do you mean by "you are now on prepaid"? Did you sign up for this on $65/month plan and can't now move to month to month plan?

      • Changed to month by month as most others here. Then changed over to prepaid, now no contract at all.

        • I signed up for the deal yesterday in JB hifi but porting was not completed. So couldn't pay for the phone and didn't contact telstra 24/7 to change plan. My number has been ported in this morning. I will go pay for the phone at 10am. Do you think I will still be able to pay for the phone now and move to month to month plan?

          • @apprentice: The only thing i can say is to do it fast - loophole will be closed sooner or later. But that's moot, cuz the offer is officially over at JB anyway.

          • @apprentice: Same here, mine didn't go through on JB hifi's side but number got ported and got all those welcome emails from Telstra. Heading in now to pickup my phone.

How did you change from month to month new Telstra plan to the prepaid plan? Have you done it on the chat?

        • Did u get a final bill? And did you have to pay for the whole month to month service for the days you were in it?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Nope just the amount of days, my final bill was $1.97 cancelled 2 days after.

    • I have finally done mine.

Received a missed call from JB Hi Fi. Not sure what that was for. Has anyone been contacted by JB? Don't want to call them back without knowing.

  • Anyone is able to switch from JB hifi contract this morning to new Telstra monthly plan?

    • Yes I did one hour ago to the 50 dollar plus 10 dollar international month to month plan with no contract termination fees. No was ported this morning though the activation git completed yesterday afternoon

  • +2

Been noted yesterday by Telstra that they don't charge you the ETC.

However its actually JB who charge you the ETC, as the JB system detects a plan change.

This will get reflected on your Telstra bill as they have access to it.

Not sure if that's correct but just be careful

    • +1

I'll be chasing telstra for rembursment if that does happen on my account, as telstra first mentioned the ETC, but then told me they would waive it.
To me that implies its a telstra charge, along with the fact that bills on my old JB Hifi plan are directly from telstra.

Aren't JB Hifi just a reseller (middleman), they don't handle payments, billing etc?

      • Correct. The whole point is that Telstra could charge the ETC, but they are the ones who decided to waive it upon request and change the plan. There is no way we can force Telstra to change the plan if they don't allow it.

      • agree, additionally they need to make you aware of any fees prior to changing plans not after the fact.

      • I think JB hi-fi gets commission on signing up people in contract. They get paid by Telstra and then after that it's all handled by Telstra, JB hifi doesn't control things after porting in is done nor the billing process. Anyone works or worked for JB hi-fi can share some insights on this?

  • Someone already mentioned that he cancelled the number and got final bill less than $2. So I guess no ETC from Telstra then. Anyone else has cancelled number can share the experience and final bill amount? Plenty of us already switched to prepaid plan.

    • did that, done that, sold the phone and bought the s10. I tried using for a few days but it was too big for me.

      • how much did you sell it for? care to share? cheers

        • I actually swapped it but I was able to claim the Sound sport Free. So, I guess it's a plus for me.

  • Too bad I miss this, since its probably the last time people could get away with this loophole. Pretty sure JB are now aware people are doing this and probably will amend next deal so that there will be no loophole.

    • Probably won't be a next deal, with telstra stitching to month to month no lock-in, will there even be 12mth sim only plans for jb hifi to sign people up to?

      • Probably the last of its kind. I'm happy to have got in, after missing the $500 JB gift card equivalent deal early in the month.

  • I don't have a bill yet, and I'm unsure if I'll ever get one, as my plan was changed to prepaid on Sat.

    • How did you change to prepaid?

  • Anyone changed the plan on this Monday morning and successfully changed to month to month plan? Heard report that some ppl were not processed by Telstra on Monday despite the chat rep promised to change.

  • Has anyone got past recieved on earphone claim?

    • Mines still sitting as received too.

      • Tried emailing them with no success either.

        • Just got an email then saying my claim has been reviewed and approved and my gift will be shipped soon and a tracking number will be provided

          • @mjohan05: That's good to hear when did you submit yours?

            • @User2049: You should receive urs pretty soon. I got 2 submissions a day apart and they are both approved almost ard the same time.

I think they just started "approving" claims and didnt do anything over the past few days lol.

  • got my headphones this morning!!

  • I got my headphones too today

  • Mine arrived today as well. Email from Oppo saying it had been shipped arrived several hours later

  • Got mine yesterday afternoon too. Waiting for the CatchConnect sim to arrive to port-out as others have done and hopefully no problems.

does anyone know how much screen replacement would cost?

      • Bet it'll be more than "Cost: $29 (initial installment; excess: $129)"

    • Keen on finding out more on that battery cover too. Anyone knows? Google didn't give me any clues.
"Battery Cover Care Expire Date: Not Registered"

Edit; never mind. Realized it's just the backside and not a batter cover plan…. -_-

  • Has anyone able to get the 4 months youtube premium as advertised along with the Bose headphone offer.if yes how to get the offer

  • Telstra just let me know i have no bill so yay!

    • I just received a bill from Telstra for $390 ETC 🤯

  • Hi guys

I just received a bill from Telstra for $390 ETC 🤯

I plan on fighting this, could anyone please help me, with copies of transcripts or anything that can help me get out of this huge bill.

    Thanks

    • Did you switch to new month to month plan beforehand?

      • Yes then cancelled it

        • damn, I better check myself but I think Telstra said my account is fully closed.

          • @User2049: Would you mind pasting your live chat for me so I can use it? :)

            • @essent1al: I don't think I have it, sadly

              • @User2049: You can just go live chat again and your chat history should be there I think?

                • @essent1al: I would just go on live chat and see what they say.

                  • @User2049: I am trying right now haha

                    • @essent1al: I have the live chat record but they said they would "waive" the ETC for me. Since it is a waiver I dont think you will be able to fight the charge based on someone else chat record?

Also I dont mean to sound like a smart arse but why dont you keep the chat record as most of us are expecting that something might go wrong so it is safer to back it up with an explicit waiver in live chat record.

  • Hi, did anyone encounter any problem after cancelling their telstra plan and selling the Oppo phone?
