    • Me either - also got an expected delivery of Monday. They're not doing a great job at selling people on eBay plus with that kind of turnaround time, lol

    • hasn't shipped for me either. Expected delivery is Monday - Tuesday for me too

Please don't reply to this message. It was sent from an address that doesn't accept incoming email.

    • They were advertising it on the homepage. Surely they can't just pull out of it so easily?

    • I got it too. WTF???

    • Same here

    • I just got this too.. what the heck?!

    • Same. Seller getting cold feet on fulfilling 800+ orders?

    • I just got this too. WTF!

This was an eBay approved promotion

    • It was Amazon!

      /tinfoilhat

    • Yep - here too. Someone at eBay will be having a fun morning with this.

    • Just got this too, what a scam.

    • +2

i havent got it yet but wtf?!

    • Same, what a load of crap

    • WTF is going on here? It's ridiculous!

    • I paid for this with giftcard, I guess I need to contact ebay directly?

      • purchased in a physical store (woolworths)

    • +2

Just called eBay was pretty livid. They said they will investigate ASAP.

I told them I better get a $150 coupon issued because either way I'm getting my $99 AirPods

    • Yeah, got this message 15 min ago!! and after they decided not to refund my order which got lost in the USA. Wat a total rubbish management

    • Received the same email. Frustrating!

  • I hope we do get it shipped. imagine wasting those hours to stressing and it was all just a plan to take our attention away from amazon lol

Umm.. what? wasn't this an official deal with eBay?

    Seller name changed to 'slimsgroup'

    • Also received this email, that's a potential 85k stuff up by EBay…

  • +1

Wow…… I got the email too. This is just so wrong on so many levels….

  • Not sure what is happening here, the listing for the airpods has been removed from ebay with the message "

We removed this listing from the site. For more information and next steps go to Messages. For information about delivery, view your order details.

Also the seller has changed from titan_gear to now display the seller as slimsgroup

  • Just got the email. What??!

  • Wow what a stuff up

  • WTF.

    SERIOUSLY EBAY?

  • It’s no longer in my purchased item. WTF

  • +2

    Legal case ?

  • +2

eBay backing out of its own deal?

  • ok just got the email wtaf is this shit

  • How are people going about their refunds?

    • 800 😝

    • +2

Especially the ones that used their credit card instead of Paypal, like myself…

      • Also used my bank card.

    • I paid with physical giftcard so not sure what to do yet

  • +1

    Omg what on earth

  • so Ebay promoted this deal and backed out of it to get people to sign up from Ebay Plus? Can't be more dodgy than this?

  • +1

    Let's sue them

  • WTF eBay! I got the same email too.

  • Yep, just got this same email, what an absolute joke!

  • +1

Transaction cancelled for anyone? Got an email that I gotta raise request to get my money back. What is this?

    • its for the $99 Airpods

  • Got the same email. WTF is this?

  • +4

Let’s start the FairTrading proceeding for misleading customers.

    • I did few days ago for my US order after their customer support simply replied no refund without any explanation to a plus member. Once I have ACCC recommendation, I'll go to my CC company and get some advice.

  • +10

I reckon the media would love this !
    News.com.au anyone ?

  • +3

Also got the email. Better be a silly intern error otherwise eBay surely has a lot to answer for given the timing of the promotion (clearly to counter Amazons sale), that it was running from the front page all day and was over the press. Even the $10 vouchers they sent last night regarding the mistake to shipping acknowledged the special promotion. Nevermind how many eBay Plus signups they likely got given the offer required membership to their program.

  • seems too good to be true!

    Guess it was lol

    • +1

eBay made a full banner $99 on their homepage.

      This ain’t no stuff up.

  • +3

I am sure eBay is in panic mode and going to rectify quickly. It must have been an automated system that would have caused this…

  • What about for those who used their credit card to pay rather than Paypal?

  • Do you reckon we should start refunding or wait it out and see what happens…

    • +7

I'd be waiting. Given this was front page for 12 hours I think they have an ACCC case up their sleeve if they don't follow through. The promotion was all over their website and bled out into the media. Also the timing was to take away from Amazons own sale, thats very clear AND it was a way to push subscriptsions of their eBay Plus service which I'm certain it did.

I don't think they can just yank the deal without repercussions. It's not a simple pricing error.

  • wow this is a joke - got the same email

  • what a crock of sh*t!

  • +1

    Hahahaha wow. Good one eBay.

  • +1

Received the email too, hoping it's just a stuff up on eBay's end. The AirPods weren't exactly easy to get, a lot of people were on an emotional roller coaster all day!

  • +1

    @tightarse

Please chat to your pals at eBay if you can glean any further insight?

    EDIT:

I have spoken with eBay chat. They said they cannot explain it at this time and need to further investigate this.

  • +1

They ruined so many people's day and now this?? It was advertised on the first page b**t eBay!!

  • +5

Wow ebay. You can't think we're THAT stupid. I mean for FS you promoted this as an "ebay plus" deal on your front page, had a dedicated discount code called f'ing PODAIR, had 5500 views per hour on the item and 800 purchases, and NOW you've suddenly discovered it's some "fraudulent" activity?

We should collectively go after them through consumer affairs for this cheap scam they ran to divert attention from Amazon's prime sales.

  • +1

I've gotten the email cancelling the order as well. I want the AirPods I paid for.

  • +2

I even got this email from them yesterday:

    Dear xxx,

Well done in securing one of the $99 AirPods deals we had on offer at 12:00PM yesterday – 15/07/2019!
We have realised that you were charged a $10 postage fee incorrectly.
Please see enclosed a $10 voucher to rectify this oversight!

    • +2

You may end up better off than the rest of us!

      • +1

LOL, true! Will go and buy a set of $250 Air Pods for $240 now :-)

  • The seller seems to have changed to "slimgroup". I got the same email. Completely ridiculous.

  • +1

People wasted so many hours in getting theirs hands on the deal, they sold 1000 units without realising that the sellers account was compromised, and not to forget, this email arrived immediately after the Amazon sale was over.
I managed to get one and used my credit card to pay for it
This is totally an eBay tempting 23 million Aussies to sign up for plus accounts And than piss off the 1000 buyers.

You lost my trust forever, ill rather rely on Other websites than eBay
    What a crap!!!!

    • without realising that the sellers account was compromised

I would assume that to be part of a front page promotion of the manner that was run that you'd have contracts, emails, phone calls etc to come to terms. Even if my seller account was compromised there's no way it would ever make its way to being part of a promotion like this. If you are eBay surely you are making sure the seller will follow through, otherwise that's hugely negligent on their part as it was a major promotion for their eBay Plus offering.

  • +1

I just got the cancelled email too. This is ridiculous.

  • +2

And most ridiculous thing is, ebay asks us to contact bank to get money back. How? Money has been processed and pay to the merchant. Definitely go to consumer fair.

  • Just called eBay "they are investigating it". They will contact me in a few days. They are unsure if we will get the items or not.

  • Same email, how do we contact Ebay? Anyone have a number?

If we cancel our transactions then its certainly goodbye airpods…

    • +1

      1800 322 928

  • proper scam bait lol

  • +1

I'm on chat to them at the moment, all they've said to me so far is:

    Erika
    11:24 AM
The reason this happened is because the seller's account was compromised. We apologise for the inconvenience

    • +1

      Erika
      11:25 AM
But I can assure you that you're still eligible for the promotion. The order has not been cancelled yet completely and we're working on placing your purchase again.

      • +5

        Erika
        11:27 AM
Yes, this promotion is an eBay offer and not the seller. Rest assured that we're working on it. Just ignore the email for now.

        • +3

Finally – someone got a non-clueless eBay rep!

    • +4

Glenn: I know that you really want that item but we want you to be protected as much as possible and you can just look for another seller on the site that sells this kind. We also knew that airpods were really one of our in demand items this season and we also noticed that this kind of item were easily be out of stock.

      Lol?

      • I'm on with Glenn right now. His response to if the deal will be honoured is "For Now. No"

        • +1

As far as I can tell, he has no idea about the promotion and is entirely clueless in general.

          • +1

            @itsfree: Yep.
"Apparently the listing Is having issues right now. What we can do is to provide a refund for the buyer."
I pointed out that it's false advertising. No reponse to my pointing out that John and Erika are saying otherwise.

  • +1

    eBay trolled OzB…

  • Conspiracy theory here - maybe the seller scammed eBay?

The seller could have convinced eBay ahead of the deal that they had the inventory and could sell 800 units of the AirPods @ $99 each but the after the money from the crazy amount of sales was received they disappear? I'm not too familiar with how these eBay deals work between the company and the seller but it might be a possibility.

I'm still hoping it was just some sort of error in eBays system resulting in these emails, it is quite interesting to see how this pans out..

    • Likely what happened, but why would eBay not think ahead how someone is going to offer airpods for $99, without eBay's financial support???

  • +8

    Everyone

DO NOT START THE REFUND PROCESS.

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/218129/70927/image_17-…

    • Meanwhile, my rep was about to process a refund for me. 😤😠

  • There is a news.com.au article about the sale

    https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/home/ebay-announces-insane…

“Apple products are rarely discounted, so this is a fantastic opportunity to snap up the latest earphones that have quickly become a cultural phenomenon,” eBay Australia’s Sophie Onikul told news.com.au.

    • +3

I sent the reporter a message to tell her to write another story on how it was a scam.

  • Just received the email too. Very disappointed.

  • Got the email too!!! FFS??!!!! It was approved by ebay and they ran the promotion on their Ebay plus promotion page!!!

And seriouly they are not doing anything to compensate our time but just a cold email?

So do we need to concern the promotion is fraudulent every single time now?

I just contacted CBA, and since the payment is pending which is going to take 10 days to clear, we are not able to dispute the payment until 26th!!!!

  • +1

if that's the case, it will be the biggest scam ever happened on ebay, and this time it's official scam.
ebay will probably lose its reputation for a good time, now they need a good PR solution…

  • Just sent this to 7News.

  • +1

Extract from news.com.au article of the OP:
Online retail giant eBay has announced one of its ”best ever deals” on a popular Apple product.
From today at 10am, the online shopping platform will slash $150 off the latest Apple AirPod.
Usually retailing for $249, it will now sell for just $99.
“Apple products are rarely discounted, so this is a fantastic opportunity to snap up the latest earphones that have quickly become a cultural phenomenon,” eBay Australia’s Sophie Onikul told news.com.au.

How do we contact Sophie Onikul?

    • I've sent them a message, and a message to 7News too

  • Someone should contact media about this. Remember Ebay promoted this deal on several media platforms.

  • +1

1.They created a banner and attracted people for eBay-plus with a compromised seller
2.Asking me to contact bank for the money back
3.Got all over the news while posting this deal during amazon prime days
