I got the tax invoice email as well from wireless1.com.au, did anyone else got that too?

      • Yes received tax invoice on that day too.

        • Me three

          • @jb3313: I never received a tax invoice. Did you guys pay buy Paypal?

            • +1

@Charles89: Yep I used Paypal. I managed to get them in the first batch at 10 AM, email with tax invoice was sent to me at 10:49 AM

  • We will have this raised to our Product team to further investigate.

For now, just leave the transaction as is . Don't take any actions or file any request or claim.

From eBay chat. Really hope they fix this, otherwise they're gonna have a lot of very unhappy customers on their hands.

  • +1

I got the email too. After clicking the seller’s username in my order confirmation email (titan_gear), I am then redirected to a user with the name “slimsgroup”?

    Very odd?

  • +3

lol ebay chat is 40 mins wait time. sucks to be working today 😂

    • oh wow that's the beauty of eBay Plus service

  • We were redirected from Ebays promo banner….

  • +11

I read the email as: "We've screwed you over on your recent officially endorsed eBay purchase. We're doing absolutely nothing about it. Try to get your own money back"

  • You lot will get great compensation if they don't honour i'm sure - xxx amount in vouchers

  • +2

Created a forum thread for anyone who wants to keep track.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/471174

  • I opened a support case as "I did not receive the item" and have got back the following:

    "You received a refund
We've issued a refund of AU $ 259.00 back to the original funding source you used to purchase this item. Please allow 48 hours for it to go through.

    Final decision:
This case was found in your favour."

    • $259?

      • yeah, some people had to pay $10 postage

        • Yes I paid the additional $10 but the total was $109 with the code, not $259. $259 was the grand total.

      • I guess it includes the $10 shipping that eBay Plus adds for free?

    • I would have just waited for eBay to sort this out otherwise all the effort trying to get a pair would be for nothing

      • I agree, it told me that the seller would have 3 days to respond before eBay would even get involved so I left the case open. Already in the queue of chat to get it cancelled

      • There's literally a few replies in this thread with screenshots from reps saying not to take any action and they'll update us within 24-48 hours. Slim possibility guy may have just screwed himself out of refund + free ebay voucher.

        • those were all posted after I opened the case my dude :(

    • +2

when the refund is cleared, the $150 voucher will be deducted from the refund.

    • I have actually refunded items that had promo codes applied in the past and the discount was also refunded, so we could actually get $259 back, not $99/$109. Assuming they do refund.

TBH to save face I think that's what they should do anyway for those impacted so they can go buy from another seller.

      • This has literally never happened to me. Yes I'll receive an email from eBay showing the higher figure but dw PayPal is there to ruin that and refund only the actual amount you paid. Not a penny more, nor a penny less

        • I went back through my history and can see what happened. Once long ago I ordered two items from Myer and cancelled and returned one. They refunded the wrong item, the cheapest of the two, and after far too many back and forths they issued a refund that didn’t account for the voucher I had used.

The reason that was likely allowed is they had to do that refund as a direct money transaction in PayPal I assume, not using eBay, as they’d somehow flagged the wrong order as cancelled which caused the incorrect refund initially and I’m guessing Ebay isn’t set up for allowing too much tweaking of those things. I guess they just sent my paypal account the money direct.

As a result it was likely a human error, not Ebays system, caused by confusion when I had multiple ongoing orders for one seller.

  • +2

I got the email as well.
I went in their FB and posted with a screenshot of the email. They have to respond publicly. It would be good if more ppl posted and generated some further attention regarding this.
I just want the damn AirPods at the price I pAid for!!!

    • +1

      have reached out via twitter

  • Im so mad that I only got 1 from that deal. and now still mad that they got our money and laugh at us wasting our time.

  • +1

This is INSANE eBay! We all need to get together and file a claim with Fair Trading, this is ridiculous! I spent hours, just like many other people trying to get those AirPods, and when I did I had to pay an additional $10.00 for postage! Even though it was an eBay Plus deal!

Then instead of getting a refund for the $10, eBay just sent me a voucher for $10? How is that fair!? I wanted a refund, not a stupid voucher!

And NOW, you're pulling out of a deal that captured THOUSANDS of people to the eBay site and away from Amazon Prime, just to have them all sign up for eBay Plus and spend $99 a hit! eBay AU advertised it on their site, there was a banner & everything, updated hourly with the new times!

At this point, I've wasted $109.00 & almost 6-7 hours on eBay watching that deal. Is eBay going to compensate me for the money and time spent? I needed those Airpods as a gift. This is a MAJOR stuff up on their part.

I've contacted news.com.au & 7 News Australia, this is ridiculous.

  • +4

Called eBay but they said that they guarantee it’s a legitimate transaction and that they are going to sort it out haha…

    • They better, I've already gone to the news. Not happy.

  • +4

    Just got this from chat

    "11:37 AM
I already have checked on your purchase here. Please be assured that this is a legitimate transaction, we are aware of this issue and we're working on it to get it resolved as soon as possible. For now, you don't need to do anything else.

    11:37 AM

The seller is currently fixing their account right now. And you should be receiving the item as per the estimated delivery date which is Mon, 22 Jul."

    • Who do you have on chat? I've got Glen and he's not very helpful so far.

  • Just got off the phone with Ebay, they said they are investigating and will email us today. I told them that it was an official banner on their website and all over the news and they have 1000 very pissed off people waiting for their orders. I suggest everyone calls Ebay customer service at 1800 322 928 and express your stance so they take this very seriously and make those transactions happen even if they have to subsidize them.

    • Ive just rang ebay, thanks for the phone number. Getting same answer, as soon as i said airpods she knew exactly what the say. Looks like they must have been given a script. Reassured me i dont need to request any refund and the airpods will come as per the original email date. I work at one of the big 4 banks and you cannot request a refund through your bank until the 'delivery' date has come and you will need to provide prof e.g the email ebay has sent saying you need to request a refund. I have no doubt you will get the airpods, even at ebay expense

  • EBAY PLUS CANCELLED! Seeing as I was charged the $10 for postage on the Airpods & only received a voucher code WITH an August expiry date by the way! No refund at all.

    • There will be atleast 1000 eBay PLUS cancellations after this fiasco

  • +3

Got off with Live Chat with a Ronna Mae Amor, and she wrote
"I understand your concern, xis123(retracted name lol). I can assure you this is a genuine transaction. It could be a possible error or what not but we're actually investigating what happen. We'll do our best to keep this transaction for you."

So looks like it's legit.. just a huge f**k up on their end.

    • Got same response. Looks like we should sit tight and wait for an update.

  • Curious who negging the Ebay Email statement of anurag . Ebay has good protection here :)

  • +2

What a sh2t show, from what I can gather, eBay’s promotion was legit, their supplier’s account got hacked and here we are…
No point of getting upset … yet

  • +8

On live chat and apparently the notification was sent in error. I was told ‘rest assured you are one of the successful buyers of this AirPod deal’. Thank god for that because I already bought a bunch of cute AirPod cases.

    • A case for a case… wondering how robust the airpod cases are.

  • +6

To Ebay customer support who are most likely following this thread -> send an email out ASAP, not later NOW to all who bought to confirm that you are honoring the purchases because you are in for you worst PR day for every delayed moment

    • -1

I second this. Go to ebay chat and get the confirmation that you're a successful buyer. That way you'll have proof.

    • -1

You know what will be fun though. If someone who wasn't successful in getting their hands on Apple Airpods and then complain about this. They give you confirmation that you're a successful buyer. Later when you don't get your airpods, you trick ebay like they've tricking us. Tell them it has to be a technical error and that you actually purchased airpods. Won't really work, but it'll create a small confusion for ebay for sure :D

      • Or someone above mentioned getting a $259 refund… Id rather that PLEASE :D Even if its in the form of a voucher.

  • They have removed the airpods from our purchase history.

    • +1

Yeah eBay replied to me on Twitter.

Thanks for taking advantage of our AirPod deal. You may have received an error message suggesting your transaction was from a compromised account. This is not the case. You will receive your AirPods.

are you sure the ebay twitter acct has not been compromised?

    • +1

      Plot twist

  • I just received a message in my inbox saying I got $259 refunded. Am I getting the refund and AirPods both now #furtherplottwist

    • Did you open a case for it?

  • +1

Maybe eBay is purchasing AirPods from Apple and they’re shipping it out themselves to avoid a massive PR problem….

    • Thanks!

    • +2

Idk if I can get $249 refunded I'd prefer to do that instead of getting $99 airpods…

      • Unlikely, from my experience I have had items refunded where I have used discount coupon codes and even though eBay states the full amount to be refunded. But once it hits your bank account it will only be the amount that you have paid. Paypal knows what you originally paid for the item.

        • Order total

          Subtotal AU $249.00
          Postage Free
          Total amount refunded -AU $259.00
          Refunded to you -AU $109.00
          Voucher -AU $150.00
          Total AU $0.00

Yup. That is exactly what has happened in my case. Currently getting this reversed as we speak.

  • Got off the phone and they said, sorry but you are not getting you item but we can arrange a refund. I asked for escalation and was told that price department is busy handling similar calls and will contact you within 24 hours.

Rep was quite brutal, she said yes it is unfair but not much we can do as the seller's account was compromised.

    • Seems eBay is all over the place with this. Meltdown happening rn with their customer service department.

    • Update: The item has magically been restored to my purchase history!

    • Go on chat and get a confirmation that you’ll get the AirPods. That way you’ve got it in writing if the backflip again. If they say no, point out that eBay Twitter says yes, as do many othe eBay agents

  • The item page is back up and it's still showing me "You bought this item | View order details"

  • Confirmed with eBay chat that the purchase will be honoured. The email was a mistake.

At first they gave the standard response that nothing can be done but they checked and it's all good.

  • I really do not believe that the email is a mistake. Ebay should be fooled by the seller but they will spend money to deliver the products. 800*249, that is less than 200K. But if they cancel that 800 transactions, that will be a disaster for their reputation, which might be hundreds millions lost.

    • definitely a mistake mate, eBay just called me back saying this and that we should ignore any refund messages we received and they'll be issuing another message in the next 24-48 hours confirming this.

  • Its possible that the account was hacked AFTER the sale, and then the hacker deleted the items… But who knows (eBay does)

  • Received this from official comm from eBay:

Thanks for taking advantage of eBay’s $99 deal on a set of Apple AirPods on Monday.

I am also sticky this comment at the top of this forum post.

    • +1

hate it when we can't +1 your comment Scotty! But thanks for the update :D

  • +2

Never imagined something like this would happen, worst eBay promotion ever.

    • Imagine spending 8 hours button mashing and loading up duplicate windows to beat the masses and the bots! And then getting an email like that! Ha! :)

      • I did try for 8 hours but got none so if I did and got this email 2 days later I would be furious.

  • Lol what the hell is going on here.

  • I'm still hanging on for the AirPods. It wasn't easy to get them so I'm not giving up yet!

  • Looks like the eBay sellers account username: titan_gear has been changed to slimsgroup, and their feedback percentage score is now 0.0% lmao. Went from 100 to 0 real quick.

  • +2

Got the email saying it's all good :) Bit of a scare from that original email lol, glad they sorted it out quickly!

    • yeap same here

  • Would suck to be anyone who processed a refund during the last hour or so :/ I'd say that's going to be a bit harder to reverse than those who just waited for it to sort itself out.

  • This is a bruh moment

  • All good now LoL

  • -1

maybe it's something ebay did to make people cancelling their transactions to cut the loss? literally I would think ebay is losing money on this promo.

    • Marketing budgets. They would of know how much this was going to cost prior.

    • That is possible as some people has cancelled their order because of the email and it seems there is no going back if you do cancel.

    • I don't think that many actually cancelled the transaction

  • Lucky that I just opened the email. All good now. phew..

  • Publicity i reckon…They were always going to honour it.

  • Given the name-change & lack of transactions since 2008 on the seller's account, I'd guess that may have triggered an auto response with eBay being none-the-wiser.

If I remember correctly, I think they used a similar shell account/subsidiary for eBay Plus promo day earlier in the year.

Edit: got my 2nd (ignore the previous) message, so hopefully all good now.

  • -1

Hilarous watching people overreact and put their tin foil hats on for what was clearly an automation blunder.
Poor from eBay, yes, but it was an obvious mistake they did not plan to happen and will rectify.

    • +1

Hi don't think it's hilarious at all to be honest. Something would have happened to trigger the auto messages. Some spent the whole day trying to get one and it's not funny when it's not honored.

      • +3

Mistakes happen! It's amazing how quick people turn to outrage. It was a great deal/competition and it will be honoured.

      • +4

It is just a pair of AirPods at the end of the day.

Not sure you can consider it a bargain if have to spend the "whole day trying to get one" when you consider what your time is worth.

        • Exactly. No one here had anything to lose aside from their time, which is true of any competition.
It'd be naive to think eBay was going to have their reputation tarnished and let everyone leave without some form of compensation.

  • +5

The roller coaster of emotions for this one item trumps everything i've ever bought. From staring at a screen since 10am the other day to finally getting a pair of the final batch by spamming that confirm and pay button to getting the confirmed sale purchase email to 'sellers account is compromised and you won't be getting it to finally getting it' to 'that was a mistake you will be getting it' . you can't make this up

    • +1

The interesting thing will be how the feedback scores will be like once the items arrive. Don't think everyone will be too kind with the feedback scores…
