This is a really good price for this chip for people with Amazon Prime and free shipping, especially given that the Ryzen 5 3400G is still based on the same architecture (not Zen 2).

If you're putting together a gaming box under $400, HTPC or anything else that requires some graphics performance, this is a good starting point.

Good purchase if you're looking for a decent APU. However, you're just looking for a CPU the two more cores and updated microcode on the memory controller of the R5 2600 for $175 is too close in price to pass up.

    • yeah ditto. the 2600 is the winner even though its back to $199… $175 was an ebay coupon price.

Since decent GPUs are pretty cheap you may not need to even look at APUs.

2600 still $175 at Futu. Depends on your use case really, this is pretty decent for a ~$400 gaming box that can do 1080p with graphics similar to a PS4/Xbox One. Could be decent for an office box, HTPC, plenty of applications which might not need graphics power.

  • Isn't this like the 3400g based on the previous despite the naming? So I believe this is matched with the 1700 for example not the 2700

    • As I understand it Raven Ridge is inbetween zen and zen+, but closer to zen+, so more comparable to Ryzen 2 than 1.

      • What ridges confuse me

      • Raven Ridge (2200g/2400g) was sort of a Frankenstein's monster; Zen cores with the Zen+ memory controller, with Vega GPU.

Picasso (3200g/3400g) is 7nm shrunk Zen+ cores, memory controller, and Vega GPU.

Renoir (4200g/4400g) will be 7nm Zen 2 cores, memory controller, and Navi GPU.

  • I built my PC around this (I won it through a competition) and its perfect for everyday tasks and you can run a very small case as no GPU is needed. Defnitely worth it - roughly equivalent to the 'new' 3200G.

  • I think one of the main benefits of Picasso (3XXXG) over Raven Ridge (2XXXG) is that they will be able to play 4K Netflix. Given that these APUs make perfect HTPC CPUs that's worse considering.
