Ring 8SB1S7-WAU0 White Battery Spotlight Camera $229 @ Bunnings

120

Comes in black as well as white. Note that these are the battery variants not the wired ones.

The same model is selling at $329 at Amazon, JB, Harveys etc.

Seems like a good deal and might be a glitch in the system from where Bunnings was matching Amazon's prime day deals.

Yes, it's subscription based.

I'm personally still on the fence since my house is drowning in Google assistant products but haven't seen any NEST camera deals lately and the reviews seem to have the Ring cameras slightly above the Nest and possibly on par with the Arlo 2.

Try price beat at Officeworks if you have one near you.

Was same price on amazon AU yesterday

Did you even read the post? They said it was most likely matching Amazon's price…

Amazon is now back to $329.. So pretty pointless posting about a price from yesterday that is no longer valid

  • Seems to be a good unit - and compatible with Echo devices too. Tempting - I'm hovering between setting up a few of these vs. a DVR style system, and both systems have advantages (i.e. this works well if the house burns down/thief tries to steal the DVR vs. more storage (and possibly higher quality) with lower ongoing costs).

    • From what i can see the cheapest sub is $30 per year which imo is worth it. I was also considering setting up a dedicated system with IFTTT integration for notification but seems like a lot of work for not a whole lot more benefit.

      • Absolutely agree. The cheapest sub is AUD$40 per device (be it doorbell, camera etc) - but when you've got a couple of cameras the AUD$150 p/a plan (that covers unlimited devices at one location) is fantastic, and not a massive ongoing burden.

Only issue for me is that I'd be looking at upgrading ~4 Xiaomi Xiaofang devices (i.e. investment of >$100), and that I'd be up for ~$900 to replace them (for not much gain)…

        • Has your xiaofangs got custom firmware?

Im running stock ones and they all seem to randomly require full resets everytime the App updates and will sometimes lose connection randomly and not be able to initialise.

Motion detection is also supppeerrr sensitive.

Also the stock ones only run if server mode set to China..

I'm hoping amazon(Ring) will support google eco-system soon, after enabling casting to chromecast for prime video. Will definitely boost the sales too. Fingers crossed…What i like with Nest cameras is they'll record 24X7 not just when triggered.

    • If it does..oh boy! On a side note, you can sideload amazon prime app on vodafone tv

The wired version you can set custom motion trigger zones. The battery version only has three built in zones. Keep that in mind when comparing as it's not immediately obvious

Wow good point. My current system is xiaomi xiaofang cameras and the trees outside set it off every 5 seconds.

      • This applies to the Ring Stick Up Cam. Need to double check if it's the same with the spotlight versions

Same for spotlight. The wired one also has longer recording times (1min vs 30sec) and lower intervals than the battery. Also bunch of controls around motion sensing light is missing from the battery one. Did whole bunch of research on these day before, and ordered couple of the wired spotlight versions from Amazon Prime sale. Bunnings didn't have any wired ones in stock near my area in Gold Coast.

I've had this + the solar panel for about a year.

Works great, has stood up to some pretty terrible weather with no issues. Doesn't appear to miss anything, and I don't get too many false positives from wind/etc.

  • Must be expired showing $328.00 here in Joondalup WA

  • Bugger, expired now… oh well, wait until the next time :).
