    • Toll is the Carrier.

You are unlikely to be as impressed by them. Worst delivery firm of the top IMHO.

Picked mine up from the shop, no fuss, and currently charging etc.

Now need to find a case …

  • Great deal, finally got my partner to ditch her old iPhone and go Android. Click and Collect here we come, hope she likes it!

  • Would this be a worthwhile replacement to an iPhone 7 128gb?

I can sell my iPhone for replacement value since it’s the top spec 7 and in great condition.

    • more a sideways move, although it can be better in that you can have easily more memory than any iphone with a suitable microSD card in the v30. Also, comparing a iphone 8 audio quality vs this v30 (or older v20), the LG sounds a bit better via its headphone jack, playing uncompressed FLAC audio files. And the video recording options on the v30 are better than the iphone, if that matters

ooh $400 gift card from Jb hifi should come handy

  • +1

Wow never seen a phone deal at 500 votes. Im actually quite tempted even though I've been an apple user since Apple 3G days but sick of their battery life and still on the 6S as i can't justify the ridiculous mark ups

Got 2, one for me and one from the Mrs, both upgrading from Moto G5 Plus :D

This vs Samsung A50? what do ya think?

    • This

      • A50 is a plastic low-mid range handset with a decent battery and reasonable screen, limited set of features, and Samsung Exynos processor.

V30 is a former flagship with superior construction and materials, most features (water resistance, wireless charging, DAC high resolution 1440p screen). Snapdragon processor. Lower weight, glass optics.

  • this or pocophone or mi9SE or s8+?
    v30+ 400 price at jbhifi
mi9se went on sale many times for 400 before
pocophone on sale now for $370
s8+ is $418 atm at dick smith 64gb yeh but i dont mind since it has expandable

i think it comes down to s8+ vs v30+ forgetting about warranty and sh!t like that for a second and judging these phones on the actual device. which do you think comes out on top?

    • Why forget about warranty? Super important. 🤔

      • i know, but we are solely just putting that aside for a minute to discuss the actual handset

        • yeah, nah. it's a full value proposition.

          • +1

@Supercool: If i did this i would have never have bought my huawei mate 7 (came from china) and my lg v20 (came from taiwan)

Never had to claim warranty on either. Saved a fortune on both buying it from overseas instead of here.

            • -1

@xoom: yeh this somebloke guy is clearly a troll, or he doesn't not understand the question..

    • The Xiaomi's don't have B28 if that's important to you.
The S8 and V30 would be similar, S8 likely having better software and front camera but the V30 has better battery, better rear camera, DAC, larger screen

      • +1

s8 exynos 8895 models when reviewed on release ran a little less well in terms of battery and performance than the s8 snapdragon 835 models so v30 (has snap 835) has the chipset benefit over s8 exynos.
LG oled screens are typically worse than samsung oled screens so there's that to throw in too. For me I'd pick v30 over all striker5950 other choices for battery, price and warranty alone. Accessory choices s8 wins out over lg but having spigen tough armor available is enough for me personally (which you can get for v30).

    • That DS S8+ is a refurb with 3 months warranty described as "fair"
"FAIR GRADE = Medium to Heavy signs of usage including crack, drop marks and deep scratches." So really no comparison

but if I had a choice between v30 and s8+ dual sim both new at same price Id probably pick the s8+ but its a very academic comparison

  • Thanks

Wife's screen broke for the second time and not paying $120 again to fix when this is only $399.

And she needs a dual sim phone for work and personal so this was perfect timing.

Went in to a Perth CBD store today 9am and they have 36 in stock.

And finally its just a 4 day deal according to the signs.

On the web they have taken down the Dual sim badge probably confuses people. But yes it is the dual sim model. and you can't use the micro sd card if you have a second sim in.

  • Ghost Armor the best screen protector for the V30?

Trying to find them cheap but seems to $30 as standard

Issues I see with this phone is the amount of people talking about Bootlooping which is making me lean towards the A50 as well as the fact it is nearly 2 years old and may not receive security updates and operating system updates. Is there any word it will receive these updates? Solid specs though at this price point but again if it is no good in 1-2 years may as well get something at the $800 price point new.

    • +1

Issues I see with this phone is the amount of people talking about Bootlooping

Most of the people here talking about lg bootlooping arent talking about the newer phones past the g4, g5 or g6.

I have had my v20 and its been 2 years and still going.

As for updates. There is report even the v20 will get android 9 pie. So that votes well for the v30+

My v20 is on april 2019 security update.

      • yes my V20 still going without bootloop, but only lcd ghosting problem. tempted to buy V30+. but i don't like the hybrid sim slot

Must be a ripper price, Koran wouldn't price match let alone beat.

        lol Didn't even notice

    • I know what you did there….ameen…

  • First time poster here. I'm upgrading from a Samsung S6 edge, and was planning on a Samsung A50 for $499 outright, as I don't need the fastest or latest (can't justify $1000+ on a phone). A50 seems to have great battery, camera, screen, and a fast enough processor for me (not a gamer). I'm hesitant to shift from Samsung (like the idea of easy data transfer etc), but this V30+ seems like a good deal.

What would others get, V30+ or A50? Given that A50 will presumably have a longer update life which is good for me as I keep my phones as long as possible.

Also, I still use headphone jack for car and home stereo connections, will the V30 give me better sound quality on my home rotel amp?

    • Quad DAC so yes, sound quality is the best of any phone.

      • -1

        Not that simple, though.

Requires particular headphone types, to enable it.

        • +2

You can trick it very easily. You only need headphones with a detachable cord or a short adaptor/joiner works just as well. Plug the cord in to the phone, then in to the headphones. Provided old mate is connecting it to an amp at home, it will work just fine using a 3.5mm cable, just plug it in to the phone first.

        • correction: quad dac does get used for any headphone, what you're referring to is the hi-gain (aka hi impedance) mode which require more power hungry cans to trigger it which normally means "higher end" headphone…

          • @homersyd: Thanks.
I was going off poor information

"the "Quad" part means there are actually four DACs stuffed inside a single chip. This lets you use a pair of high-impedance headphones (>50 Ohms), as the three extra DACs kick in only when connected to such a pair."

    • Yes, v30 better sound quality, and higher spec components overall.

    • +3

I just bought this phone because it has rave reviews about its sound quality (see https://youtu.be/HoDcFzwhlhk)

Cheaper than any half decent audio player with plenty of storage options plus ability to stream using Spotify and Tidal. I use my iPhone with a Audioquest Dragonfly Red with a good pair of headphones and the sound quality of the V30 is as good if not better than that combo without the hassles of a dongle.

    • yeh same boat, a50 was actually 399 on special, idk about now, and a70 was 519, but than the s10e is 680, and if you pay a little more you can get the mate 20 pro 799, hmmmmmm decisions which would last longer.. last time i didnt buy the v30 my reasoning was that its a 2 year old phone. but seems like its the fav on ozbargain because truly its a vlue packed phone at the sub 400 price. i think the mate 20 pro would last longer tho. id stay away from the samsung a50 a70 coz the video recording is garbage and its a requirement of mine a good OIS or EIS system.

  • Mine is in a MNML cover and it has survived 4 drops on surfaces of varying hardness from pant pocket height. I also am using a Skinomi screen protector as it is the only one which has remained attached for the past 6 months. The curved display edge made it difficult for the 2 dollar ebay bought screen protectors to stay on for more than a day.

  • +3

I dropped mine today <1m on concrete with a fumble. Saved by these:
    $2.75 case
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32904283212.html
    $4.87 screen protector
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32952808815.html

    • How long does Aliexpress take to ship the case and screen protector?

      • Screen protector took about 2 weeks, cases usually take a bit longer.

  • +4

just an update about this phone, i got it today, everything is super solid, except the from camera lol, i mean calling it sh!t is an understatement, my s6 has a better front camera, fortunately im not a big selfie person, everything else is an upgrade tho. still a good buy at 400 as i cannot thing of anything else as good under even $500

    • How do you find the screen? I have read that it is a major weak point.

      • +1

nah honestly its pretty good, when you tilt it you might see a slight blue tint but im not bothered by it, and i come from a super amoled

    • +1

I picked one up today and just tried out the selfie cam after reading this. You're right, it seems pretty bad. I'm not too bothered though since I rarely, if ever, use the selfie cam. I did give the main camera a bit of a test earlier and it seems very good though.

  • Picked one up at JBHifi Joondalup for $368 thanks to 8% discount on gift cards, and they have heaps in stock. Went for dinner at Carousel Cannington (don't ask), and thought I'd pop in to JBHifi there and have a look around. Saw the demo V30+, and boy, there's significant burn in on the screen. Not a good look.

    • 8% on discount gift cards? Was that in-store offer?

      • Work perks :-)

      • +1

        5% through entertainment book

  • Thanks OP! Bought one for my wife, should be nice upgrade from her Samsung S5! For the first time she will have better phone than me, I'm still on Samsung S7 :)

  • Hell of an upgrade for all you S7 owners!

    • Its SoC is only one year newer than the S7's..

  • Picked up my Spigen case last night from their Oakleigh Warehouse. I loved walking through the Park from Huntingdale Train Station, and then scaling a 10 foot high fence which got me back on the footpath to the Train Station.

    • Did you not take a photo of the path using your new phone?

  • This phone is a beast, Asphalt legends running at High quality/QuadHD with motion blur super smooth. Its a decent upgrade for this who still hanging on mid-range phones that runs Qualcomm 600 series

  • Anyone know what im expecting if changing from Xiaomi Mi5 from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284158 to LG V30+?

Screen goes from 5.15" to 6.0"
    How much faster?

    Less bloatware?

  • Those who chose shipping instead of store pickup, how long did it took to change from 'In Progress' to shipped? Ordered late yesterday, still showing in progress.

    • I ordered Wednesday night and mine said completed (shipped) yesterday morning and I received it today via Toll. It was sent from a store 10km away.

    • Ordered 8.30am Thursday, Marked shipped 9.24am, picked up by Toll 11.47am, delivered 13.44pm next day (Friday) 280km away.
This was using their Express delivery option rather than the Post option.

Just checked the IMEI on my V30+, date of manufacture: 04/17/2019, so only 3 months old.

    • How do you check that?

      • +2

Try this site - select LG and punch in your IMEI number.

        https://sndeep.info/en

2 months old here, born on 05/03/2019.

          • @dannyhc: Hard to believe this, but I got

            Date of manufacture: 07/13/2019

        • May/2019 for me :) Nice to know it's not old stock.

        • +1

Bought one yesterday. Mine was made 7/15/19. That's only 13 days OK. Makes me wonder if that's not the date of manufacture but the date Samsung Aus registered the IMEI number?

          • @damo105: Bought one yesterday too. Mine is 7/13/19. Battery 37% when unboxed. One weird thing is the box does not come with plastic wrap, but the seal is not broken. A bit surprise the ex-premium phone does not have premium packaging. The phone looks brand new. Is it same as yours?

            • @vhfyagi: Mine was the same, box was sealed but no plastic, and battery was about 40%. Maybe they don't use plastic as they're trying to be more environmental! Phone definitely looks new, I'm sure it's not a refurb or anything.

              • @damo105: I think i managed to get the oldest one mentioned here so far. It was manufactured back in February. Had about 42% battery. The box was also sealed but no plastic.

    • +2

they are all new and still being made, its a popular well priced phone

  • Reddit is reporting that Android Pie has been released and is being rolled out to EU devices. I haven't unboxed my unit yet. Anyone know if you can jump straight from Nougat to Pie, skipping Oreo, for a cleaner install?

    • It comes with 8.0 out of the box

  • Bit the bullet and got one yesterday, plenty of stock at the Ringwood store if it helps anyone.
What is everyone else using for a good case?

    • I just bought a Spigen liquid crystal case which I’ve read is a good one. Can report in a couple o& days if you like.

      • I got the Spigen liquid crystal case last night. It's a little thicker than I expected but but it looks good and it has some stiffness too it. RECOMMENDED for those who want a clear case.

    • There don't seem to be too many options for cases. I ordered one of these (Ringke Fusion smoke black): https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-V30-V30s-ThinQ-Case-Ringke-FU…

I found an Aus shop selling the clear version, but I don't really want a case that's gonna turn gross yellow. I liked the look of this one the most out of all that I could find online. Hopefully it's a good case, and hopefully I don't drop my new phone while I'm waiting for the case to arrive from Korea.

      • Does this case cover the back?

        • +1

Yep. It has a clear polycarbonate back.

          • @Fappo: Did you order a screen protector as well?

            • @RSmith: Nah, I'm not bothering with one. I've never liked them and my last phone survived its two year lifespan without screen protector and without a scratch.

  • Does Telstra HD Voice / VoLTE & wifi calling work on this phone?

  • Anyone else got a yellowish tint on the OLED screen? Is this normal or a defect? Comparing the v30 to a LG G7 LCD screen.

    • +3

The colour temperature can be adjusted in Settings > Display > Screen colour > Custom.

  • I bought the LG V30+ yesterday. The phone is great! Although I have a weird issue: after adding shortcuts to the lock-screen, the lock-screen apps give full access to the phone without requiring a thumbprint or PIN. I've never used an Android phone before—is this normal?

  • +1

I've never thought shopbot.com.au was anything more than a dodgy promoter funded dump and todays 'best deal' at JBhifi on this phone is nowhere to be seen:

    https://www.shopbot.com.au/pp-lg-v30--price-552605.html

Surprise; not visiting that waste of space again. According to shopbot, the best price is $499 at an online retailer who usually ships from Honk Konk. Not deserving of a mention.

  • Is this a good upgrade from my LG G4, which is on its last legs? Or should I go for the LG G7 instead?

    • Wow. Your G4 went the distance. Mine bootlooped into oblivion after just a few months. Anyway, to answer your question, this would make a great upgrade. The only drawback is that there probably won’t be anymore updates after Android version 9, which is being rolled out now.

      • +1

It's pretty slow, but I'm putting that down to having never done a factory reset. It's been used daily with no resets for 3+ years. I might actually try a reset soon and see if that improves it. the phone does what I needs, and still holds up well today. Still has features that new phones don't. I'm now considering waiting a bit longer for the G8 to come down in price.

      • +1

Plus i love how durable this is. I have dropped it countless times onto concrete, and it's fine, aside from some slight scuffing on the sides. I love that I can replace the back plate with different colours as well.

      • +1

Still rocking the G4 myself, bought release week.

    • That's why I got mine too. Not using it yet though until I get a bright, grippy case.

  • My LG V30+ is unable to use data while making calls. Does anyone else have this problem?

    • Would that mean I can't use Viber?
