    • Hey Alan, can recommend a particular build/release of gcam. I have tried a few downloaded from XDA but have not been able to get Pixel Motion Photos to work. Cheers

Hmm, now I'm torn. This or the Motorola One Vision for $100 more?

  • +1

    THIS, sight unseen'

LG make great phones, let down by appalling sales staff and resellers

LG make great phones, XDA love em

Looping Garbage must have been before your time :)

      • +1

My v20 must be bucking the trend. 2 years on still going no issues.

        • +6

I was totally sold on LG phones, had a G2 and G4 and loved them… and then one morning my G4 died like almost every other G4, in the bootloop bug. A manufacturing fault meant heat over time caused a part of the phone's motherboard to deteriorate until the phone stopped booting properly. LG did not properly acknowledge the problem and did not recall/replace affected phones. I was only saved by Kogan who refunded the purchase in full which meant I was able to buy a new top of the line Samsung phone at the time. Hesitant to go back to LG after that experience.

  • Keen to get some advice. The Samsung’s I’ve owned in the past seems to have the issue with phone becoming ‘slow’ and battery deteriorating within 2-3years. How’s LG by comparison?

    • +5

Reset your phone and start again. Then…smile.

      • Did exactly that to my gal note 5 - back to as new performance 3.5 years on. Wont change it for anything

    • +8

Every phone’s battery will deteriorate after 2 years; that’s just where battery tech is at right now unfortunately.

      • Not going to change either. People switch phones after 2 years on average, so long term health of the battery is not a consideration.

  • Much better than the S8+?

    • +3

If you're asking if it's an upgrade no not at all. But comparable in most areas.

      • +2

I have both. Bought v30+ when s8+ screen cracked and repaired it later. S8+ screen seems more vibrant, but as it's quite big and thin, v30+ feels more sturdy. I prefer S8+ mostly because of the screen size and colour.
What I like about v30+ is the dual camera, wide angle lens comes handy so often.

Great Idea to pair this deal with the Telstra plan below

    Fantastic, thank you!

My old Coles MasterCard price protection will hopefully cover the cost difference for the third time now (Purchased for 899, then JB dropped the price to 799, then 479, and now 399)!

I've used this phone since April 2018 and love it - decent battery life (I can go from wake-up nearly all the way to bedtime on medium usage), decent camera, etc. No issues at all until about one month ago when the headphone jack started playing up. I have to stick a bit of paper in there when I plug headphones, but I now use bluetooth headphones anyway.

    • +1

Thanks for that . I was wondering about claiming it 2nd time myself. Purchased at $799, claimed once at $479

      • Fantastic. Never heard about such long time price protection. I am using CBA, and they only give 21 days. What a shame.
Apart from Coles, which card providers give similar product?

        • +2

28 degrees does 1 year from any Aussie retailer even online, Coles did 2 years but only from the same seller.

          • @OpayuOnam: So that is an add-on product? Like buying an insurance package?
I tried to look at Coles' credit card info but haven't found any places mentioned that.

            • @Averell: It's an insurance product yes but you don't have to pay anything as long as you pay the card balance off in full before the statement date. Both Coles & 28degrees have no annual fees either (28deg has the benefit of no international transaction/currency conversion fees too) so if you aren't using the cards you don't have to pay anything.

          • @OpayuOnam: Yes it's an add on insurance, but I believe Coles doesn't offer it anymore, people who have it are on old plans.

  • Good deal. Bought mine a few months ago for $430. Might get another for the wife.

    • Me thinking the same.

    • , can you ask your wife if it overheats or lags during normal usage such as facebook, WhatsApp and web surfing. Have terrible experience with my sony phone with 820 chip, overheats and lags but when I tried a friend's s8 phone that is on low setting to preserve battery life, it is a lot faster than my phone running at full speed.

      • I replaced an S8 with this LG. The LG runs like an ice cube compared to my S8. The amount of heat generated by the S8 (and the S7 before it) is outrageous. The LG barely gets warm under the exact same usage.

        • You think lg v30 is still worth it, want to get One to replace my shonky Sony

        • so did this phone come out during s8 or s9 era?

          • +1

@striker5950: Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty certain this was LG's flagship the same year as Samsung's S8

            • @Jfi2ee: Sorry I didn't know there was a rule about always only getting a newer phone.

I only ever buy a new phone when it is an ex-flagship and circa $400. Have done so for the last decade. There is no way in hell I'm paying a grand for a phone.

I got the V30 because my S8 screen cracked and it ran very hot and I never really liked it. I had to get the S8 (on contract) because my S7 got the sudden black screen of death issue and I had no backup phone. So by the time the V30 deal came up I was over Samsung phones. All my old samsung phones have issues or are totally dead. S8, S7, S5A, S3, Note. By contrast my old LG G3 is still going strong after 5 years of 24/7 use (2 years by me, 3 years by wife, and my son will inherit it now). And my Nexus One and HTC Desire are still daily used (as OBD2 dashboards) 10 years later. The most I've gotten out of a samsung phone is 3 years.

              • @stumo: I too came from an S8, screen cracked in various places and my contract is up in December. Thought I'd bit the bullet and get the LG while its cheap.

                • +1

@Jfi2ee: Oh ok sorry I misunderstood. Yep you won't be disappointed. It is slightly wider and longer than the S8, but you will get used to that after a week or so. Other than that I find the V30 is is superior to the S8 in every way.

One issue you will have is the Android setup transfer of crap from your S8 to the V30. It just won't work, and it won't even tell you why. Its because the V30 is on an earlier version of Android. So you have to transfer manually any stuff that doesn't sync with your google account. Was a good excuse to have a bit of a clearout though.

  • Unlocked?

    • +1

Unlocked. Nowadays the only phones that are locked are prepaids.

      • Shows how long it's been since I bought a new phone. Thanks!

  • +1

Is this phone dual 4G capable? Or 4G/3G?

    • Been wondering too. Can anyone confirm?

      • After a little research, it seems the Snapdragon 835 has no support for dual VoLTE

        • +1

I bought a HK variant of Xperia XZ Premium(snapdragon 835) with dual sim and it can only do LTE for one sim and 3G for the other. It seems like the dual LTE standby is first introduced with snapdragon 845

      • The LG V20 is capable of 4G/4G dual standby.

        • Any screen shots to prove this?

        • Just enable both sim cards on my v20.

One tesltra one belong. And one says 4g the other says 3g.

  • Hhmmm not sure to change from pixel 2 to this. Happy with phone but bigger screen, battery and headphone jack may be useful… Wireless charging as well

    • More of a side - grade than an upgrade from the pixel 2 I would say

    • Ended up picking one up. Should last a year or two. Thanks op and everyone for input

  • -1

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with Snapdragon 845 is a better deal here. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/471589

    • -1

Only on spec, I'm sure the build quality is on different level. But, LG is famous for making stupid phone

    • +3

No NFC on that one though unlike this LG

    • +4

      Only if you don't need B28… ;-)

    • +2

Display is not as good as the LG.

    • +15

This is a proper flagship with a OLED screen, flagship build quality, wireless charging, water resistance, NFC, B28, etc etc.
The Snapdragon 835 is plenty fast.

  • Is this dual sim PLUS micro SD, or does the memory take one of the slots?

    • +3

      Memory card takes a slot.

    • There's a dedicated slot for the memory card at least on the v20. GSM arena doesn't specify this clearly either for the V30+.

    • I have a V20 and it has dual sim card slots and a dedicated microsd slot.

I assume the V30 would be similar.

      • +3

not the same as v20, as the v30 has a hybrid slot - either microSD or SIM, not both

        • Ugh. All good things must come to an end, I suppose. Thanks for the comment, I will have a good think and decide if I'd get one of these.

  • Damn I just bought this from JB Hifi last week for 498 :(

    • +4

Heheh please hand your OzBargain license back in.

    • +2

If you had the cash to, you could buy this deal and then return the phone with your old receipt (probably)

      • Don't they put the phone imei on the receipt?

        • I don't think so, but I can't confirm that

      • Wouldn't they scan the barcode and be able to tell that its not the exact same one?

        • +4

If the phone model is the same, the barcodes should be the same

        • Barcode is the same.

It's a question of whether or not they scan the serial number or IMEI into the receipt. If you're buying from a computer shop, they definitely will because they know dodgy people will pull stuff like that.

    • +2

JB have price protection for a few weeks. Take your receipt in and you should get cashback. I got $50 back three weeks after buying a TV from them (cash).

      • Thanks I haven't heard of this before. Is it an unwritten policy? I hope they give cash back. Hell I'd take a gift card even.

      • Can you elaborate on this? Or do you know if it is written into policy? I purchased mine for $475 about a month ago. Gaining back the difference would be great!

        • +1

I think I saw it advertised in-store and thought, sweet I'll give it a shot.

        • +1

JB HiFi will refund you the difference if they drop the price within (I think it's) 30 days of purchase. They don't have it written anywhere but I confirmed it with JB last time I bought one of these less than a week before a big price drop.
I brought the receipt in on the day of the sale and they refunded the difference to my card.

      • +4

Yep. Got $1000 back on a TV just over 1 month later when it went on sale. Ask to speak to manager, they will be happy to accomodate you.

        • +3

If you paid on 28 degrees you could double dip on the price protection.

          • @lostn: Gotta get onto the 28 degree. Price protection sounds like a great perk

      • Hmm so we could just buy the phone now.

      • I tried! Though my purchase was 5weeks ago and they wouldn't refund the difference. Fair enough really.

  • for the same price, you have a xiaomi really better …

    • which xiaomi is that?

      • +1

I would guess the Xiaomi Mi 9 is better in every way, or the 9T for a bigger battery / lower price.

        • Is the Mi 9 anywhere near $400?

        • It's a great phone but it doesn't best the v30 in every way:

          Mi 9 has
          More weight
          No water resistance
          No headphone jack, no DAC
          50% higher price

        • Does it have Android One like MiA2?

          • @virhlpool: No the Mi9 has the MIUI operating system based on Android.

      • not sure if it's better,but Mix2s 6gb/128gb is 1999rmb on Taobao,which is around $400.8gb/256gb is around 2300rmb.

    • +3

      and no real warranty….

      • I have had a bad experience with Mi5. Battery was quite bad.

  • i heard this phone have blue tint OLED problem after a year. anyone use it can confirm this?

    • +1

      No issues with mine.

  • Any comments on battery life? Acceptable?

    • +7

You will run out before it does.

      • Where have I heard that recently? Oh yeah, Apple.

    • -2

Battery life not that great imo. With heavy use you'll get probably 5-7 or so hours max out of it (charges up very quickly however). In comparison my Redmi Note 4x lasts at least a couple of hours longer with the same level of use.

      • +2

Battery is great with single SIM All day easily for me though phone is only 6 months old. With dual SIM much less, probably lasts half as long.

        • -1

I have a second sim in there but I have it turned off and only use it when I need to. Maybe it's still using up battery. Will take it out and see if it improves. Cheers mate.
