Full CO2 Refillable Cylinder 2.6kg/6kg $73/ $83 + Postage (Was $98/ $109+Postage) Kegland

290

Having recently purchased a Sodastream, I've been looking for a deal on C02.
Kegland have reduced the price of these 2 cylinders again (same deal as this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/452710).
They also have available the deluxe Sodastream cylinder adapter (with pin adjustment) (https://www.kegland.com.au/deluxe-sodastream-cylinder-adapte…) which has previously been out of stock.

Great price. I own two, but purchased neither this cheap.

If you're using sodastream metrics, the 6kg bottle contains $300 (15x 400g refills at $20) worth of co2 alone.

    • Same, I paid 2.5x this price for the 2KG from a local distributor… I'm shredding my Ozbargain card now

  • Anyone found anywhere to refill them in Sydney? North shore preferred… ;)

      https://www.kegland.com.au/distributor/

See legend for refill locations. Prices range between $40 to $60.

      • Cool,.easier than I thought. Boc aren't interested.

        • No, they make too much by renting their own cylinders.

        • Could get dry ice and refill your own

          • +1

@tunzafun001: It would be very time consuming refilling a 6kg bottle with dry ice. Even for a 400g sodastream bottle it's tedious. Been there, done that!

I get mine filled at speed gas at Brookvale, $35 for the 2.6kg and $45 for the 6kg refill. They fill them on the spot, usually only takes a few minutes.

    • You just swap’n’go them, most home brew shops do it. ~$50 for the 6kg

  • So I don't have a Sodastream currently, but I'm immediately tempted if you can use bulk CO2 solutions like this.

What else would I need to get up and running?

  • I purchased this with the soda stream adapter just last week. Refilled my first tank yesterday and it was very easy! Very happy with this purchase.

  • Nearest Kegland distributor 400km away. Sounds like they are the only ones who do a refill on these cylinders.

    • You can just swap ‘n’go them, most home brew shops do this…~$50 for the 6kg

  • I don't imagine these cylinders would be safe inside the house?

    • Why's that?

    • Imagine if CO2 leaked inside you house.

      • +4

It's carbon dioxide, not carbon monoxide. Even if you had a leak it would come out do slowly as to cause no issues.

        • carbon dioxide, not carbon monoxide

          Yep, hence the CO2…. ;-)

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: Imagine if humans generated CO2, perish the though of such horrors.

            • @Quarn: I'm just shocked that it could be released into the same room as me! What about the children!

      • I'm no expert but I'd think it'd have be a pretty fast leak in a confined space to pose any health problems. Most Aussie houses are pretty poorly sealed and given CO2 is denser than air I'd imagine it would dissipate fairly quickly.

    • 100% safe. I've had them in the house for years

  • Are these food grade CO2 tanks and gas? Is there such a thing? Would hate having some other toxic gases pumped in

    • Yes there is such a thing

The name kegland should be a dead giveaway that they stock food grade co2

Best to give them a call to make sure though

      • Good way to waste your time and theirs. They're only the biggest and best home brew supplier in Melbourne. 👍🏻

$20 for 2.6kg refill. I go there regularly.

        • +1

They just need to open a second location on the western side of the city.

  • I bought 5 5kg CO2 fire extinguishers for $30 or something like that.

    • $30 each or the lot? Where?

      • The lot.
        On gumtree, I think.

    • I've got 2 Extinguishers (aluminium). I'm almost considering jumping on this as my hydrostatic tests come around every 5 years which adds up in price more quickly than I like :-) These are steel and have a 10 year test cycle.

Good price for these bottles, although not made in Oz. I have been unable to refill my Sodastream canister though.

My Kegland tank, even just cracked open a fraction (even less than a fraction) almost immediately triggers the Sodastream anti-refill valve. I've tried it several times on 2 different Sodastream canisters, following the instructions in the Kegland video, same result. I had to buy a different canister for the Sodastream to enable refilling - Kegland sells one for $21.95 that can be refilled at full speed.

    • Ah good, its not just me then. I have the exact same issue and have been unable to successfully fill the original bottles. So if I buy the SS cylinder from Kegland I will (hopefully) have no issue based on your experience.

  • Kegland or KegKing, what's the difference?

    • +5

The KegKing rules over the KegLand I imagine

    • Employees in Kegking had a disagreement they couldn't resolve, and the most innovative staff formed KegLand.

  • +1

Just an FYI as no one else has said it you can also use these with your MIG welder. so dual use.

  • I have heard you need to place the sodastream tank in the freezer before refilling to get the full 400g

    • Don't have to but better results if you do apparently. That said I have never performed a real world test to fill one room temp and one frozen and then weigh each.

    • Even then you won’t get the 400g, it needs to be about -40oC
On top of that, it depends on how full you larger tank is, as it relies on pressure, to fill.
So you won’t fill 15 sofa stream canisters, more likely 10-12. And the last few won’t be near full.

      • +2

i'm not sure what you are doing but i get way more than 400g in mine.

        • Yeah, I get up to 440g in mine if transferring from a full donor tank to a frozen bottle.

However, I now use a hose to connect directly…..tedious having to replace tanks all the time.

          • @ash2000: I waS going to do that but the wife said no LOL

            • @orac01: In fairness, unless you can hide the tank it is unsightly!

Get yourself a couple of spare 400g cylinders. Sometimes you can get empty ones on gumtree for next to nothing. It's easier to refil in batches as you can imagine.

              • @ash2000: yer i got a few from spotlite for 16$ last time they had a deal on

  • Wonder if you can use with an aquarium setup

  • Just a heads up not all home brew shops fill Keg Land branded cylinders. My local will only refill Keg King as apparently Keg Land undercut a lot of home brew shops so they just refuse to fill them up. I have a Keg Land in the shed just gathering dust.

lemonty the second link for the adaptor is to the wrong adaptor, need to replace it with this link - https://www.kegland.com.au/sodastream-cylinder-filling-adapt…
It is unfortunately out of stock, listed as back in stock 8th Aug.

  • Is there anywhere in Perth you can get a full cylinder for near this price?

  • Can someone please confirm this will allow me to fill my sodastream bottles (it's in stock as opposed to the kegland one) ?
    http://www.brewmart.com.au/brewmart-shop/catalogue/?updateSh…

    • You have linked to your cart and not the product, nothing is shown.

Whatever CO2 cylinder you buy you will need an adapter to mate with the sodastream bottles to refill.

Like this one from brewmart if you are planning on buying from there.
      http://www.brewmart.com.au/brewmart-shop/catalogue/?detail&I…

      • Doh!

        http://www.brewmart.com.au/brewmart-shop/catalogue/?detail&I…

Yeah, they have stock and their shipping is cheaper.

        • From their image and description I'd say yes. Looks very similar to the Kegland adapter I have.

Remember to put your Sodastream cylinder in the freezer for a few hours (I cover the threads so they don't ice up in case I forget and leave it in too long) and invert the donor cylinder (if it's standard). I weigh my cylinder before and after filling so I know how much CO2 went in.

          • @OzBragain: Sounds like a lot of hassle, just use one of these instead.

            https://www.kegland.com.au/freedomone-sodastream-adapter-hos…

            • @dryandra: It's not really difficult. Put a Sodastream cylinder in the freezer then connect it to an inverted donor cylinder via adapter to refill.

If the hose attachment works better for you then go for it. I don't have space on our kitchen bench and I'm not about to start drilling benchtops or cabinets when I can store a 6Kg cylinder in the garage for refills. Also has the advantage of filling family members cylinders too.

  • Do these guys do pickup?
Nvm for anyone interested like me yes they do and they've got Au post style lockers: https://www.kegland.com.au/faq/

  • I get my 6kg bottle filled at my local brew shop for $50.

  • Here I am thinking damn we dont have a kirkland in adelaide yet.
