[eBay Plus] Crucial P1 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD $152.23 Delivered @ FutuOnline eBay

731
PASTA15

Best value for 1TB SSD NVME in the M.2 form factor.

The usual question that comes up is "should I get this or the Intel 660p?". This should answer that for you. TLDR: Crucial P1 is superior to the Intel 660p at this price point.

Cheapest price on Ebay is $185 delivered and on Amazon it is $190.

When you add this to cart, eBay will automatically reduce the price by 10% and then you can use PASTA15 to reduce it by another 15% bringing the price down to $152.23 AU delivered.

EDIT !!!

Grantmckenzie below found an even better deal at $144.50 via Shopping Square Ebay
Same requirement of eBay plus and the same coupon of PASTA15 can be used.

It’s QLC with 5 years warranty, right?

    • +2

      That is correct.

Under the hood we have an Intel/Micron 64-layer 3D QLC NAND and the Silicon Motion SM2263 controller.

Warranty valid for five years from the original date of purchase or before writing the maximum total bytes written (TBW) as published in the product datasheet and as measured in the product’s SMART data, whichever comes first.

      It is also Australian stock.

      • Is it possible for common user to write to TBW?

        • +1

          for the common consumer, doubtful

        • Even for a hardcore user, it'll take over a decade of extreme use.

          • +1

@Nukkels: I mean if someone used it up, it voids the warranty automatically!?

UPDATE: I got it. I thought the TBW was 1T, but turns out to be 200T

1TB drive: 200TB Total Bytes Written (TBW), approximately 109GB per day for 5 years

  • Yeah wish I had gotten two (only got 1), when it was ~$130 from Amazon two weeks ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/470683

      Cool, thanks for the update

      • +1

You're welcome, now you'll be aware that this isnt a good recent deal.

ebay plus only , put on title

    • Does anyone know how to hide ebay plus deals on ozb?

  • +2

When will thunderbolt 3 enclosures come down in price to maximise the speed these can dish out…?

    They are still $200ish

  • +2

Bugger, my eBay plus expired. Code is only for plus members.

    • +1

If so, that needs to be in the title!

    • +1

Ditto, had the one year free deal and now can't justify paying for it

      • I did end up using it enough that I think the cost was justified - but now I've gone back to uni full-time, so I can't justify the cost because I'll be buying less anyway.

  • Why would you get this over an MX500? Performance is basically the same

    https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crucial-p1-nvme-ssd-qlc…

    • Is there an MX500 in m.2 form?

    • +1

High capacity m.2 drives are great for ITX small form factor cases. Recently got rid of both of my two 2.5" SSDs and replaced with one 2TB m.2 SSD, freed up so much clutter with the removal of SATA cables and PSU cables for them too.

That being said yes it was more expensive as you've noted.

    • +1

Why would you get this over an MX500? Performance is basically the same

This is basically not true in situations that involve reading most of the time which is most consumer use cases. This drive blitzes the MX500 and is close to Samsung 970 for performance for these tasks such as loading games. Given they're so close in price it's hard to recommend the MX500 for these tasks.

It does fall over with tasks that involve large amounts of writes though.

      Anandtech says:

That leaves the Crucial P1 as usually being very fast, and definitely faster overall than any SATA SSD.

  • Any recommended cheap enclosures just for cloning purposes? Looking to replace the SSD on the laptop from 256GB to this 1TB SSD and it only has the one NVMe slot.

    • Could you image it to a file or 2nd hard drive (eg USB HDD) and then clone it back?

Be careful with UEFI/GPT boot which is quite common since Windows 10. Make sure your cloning software supports it.

      • Yes, I have other USB HDDs. What is the recommended cloning software? Preferably free. I'm a noob and have not done cloning before.

Otherwise I was going to do a fresh install as I have another Win 10 key.

        • +3

Macrium reflect worked well for me. Create a usb restore media and make an image onto an external drive

        • +1

Macrium Reflect is free, reliable and isn't filled with adware etc. Used it many times without issue.

If you're reinstalling Win10 to the same PC (i.e. direct SSD swap out) then you don't need another activation Key. It'll pull your existing one back after install. All depends if you have only a handful of programs to reinstall vs. hundreds - cloning will be easier and faster though.

        • +1

I think the other popular one is Acronis True Image. The free version is limited but does everything I needed it to.

    • -1

I've only bought cheap enclosures and the only one that is not crap is some Orico thing that was the cheapest of the lot.

I think it's better to avoid cheap enclosures. ;)

  • Edit, nvm.

    • +9

      Correction: NVMe

      :)

  • Is this a good option for daily gaming/standard usage?

    • +1

With average read speeds around 1,300MB/s and write of 900MB/s it would be great for standard usage.

    • Sufficient yes, overkill yes.

    Cheaper @ ShoppingSquare eBay [ $144.50 ]

    • +1

You should post it as a deal.

    • Good find. $144.46!!

    • Damn, I only just saw this comment ahaha

    • +1

Nice find! If you post a deal I'll link it from my post as it's on the FP.

I've also edited my original post above to add your link and credited your find.

  • Need to ebay Plus member :(

    • Yep, if you purchase a few things during the year doesn't take long to get ahead.

  • This good to use as a game installation drive?

    • +1

Yep, but you might as well buy a cheaper sata drive for that.

  • Just received it but windows cannot detect the SSD even though it shows up in BIOS. Now I have a brand new SSD that will probably sit in the draw for the foreseeable future :(

    • Dunno if you've figured this out or if this will help you or not but if you press the windows button and type disk management (create and format disk partitions) I think you will be able to format it in there and give it a drive label so that it can be used by windows.
