  • can anyone review how effective these are over the regular cup-type moisture absorbers?

    • The description says it lasts up to 60 days. So if 60 days have passed and not all the beads have turned into water, does that mean it's no longer effective?

      • If after 60 days, there are still shards that have not been liquefied, I would still replace the bag, as mould does gather in the shards due to the trapped water in the pouch underneath.

I have these in my walk in wardrobe to protect my shoes and handbags, and they work the same as the cup-type. It's just a convenience thing.

        • "mould does gather in the shards due to the trapped water in the pouch underneath"
No offense but I don't think that is possible.
The shards are calcium chloride that reacts with moisture in the air at > 40% humidity. I don't think they can go moldy in their solid state as they are the reagent keeping the moisture level below that which mold can form.

@King Tightarse: No offence taken, but I have seen the shards clumped together and green mould acting as the binding agent. I've not seen this since I moved back to Melbourne, but most certainly did when I lived in Brisbane.

    • These have a larger surface area and are pretty effective in a closet with hanging clothes.
I have had things still go moldy when using those container type ones in a humid environment

    • I like the reusable, but if you use microwave the moisture goes back to your house… and it start the loop again.

      • Wow, seem pretty nifty!

      • You could probably just leave them outside on a dry sunny day.

or anywhere that excess moisture and stagnant air are a problem.

These are great in your underwear.

  • This might not be news to a lot of people but if you use the cup version, you can buy the big bag refills which is way cheaper (i knew someone who was buying new cups all the time!)

These are a false economy. Even at this price. They simply don't absorb that much. $/L ends up very high.

The sensible choice is either 1) you don't really need to remove such a small amount of moisture, don't fool yourself and don't buy anything. 2) Buy a dehumidifier off gumtree and remove serious moisture.

I'll try find a Google link later as my opinion is evidence based.

Here we go. It's British so don't nitpick numbers as energy cost and humidity aren't the same. But the crux of it is disposable stuff like this is 10x more expensive. And powered stuff is always in the ballpark of cheapest

(Neg is for product issue as it's totally BS that they are trying to milk you for money)

    • Very wise advice!

      Thank you for your service.

These remove maybe 2 ml of moisture, and it's like nothing but if put it in your box of coffee beans! (Don't do this!)

A dehumidifier takes more than 5-10 litres of liquid water off your moist every day and the price is the same after you buy 10 of these from the supermarket.

I've been using these for months now. They have dried out a wet ceiling in a caravan and have removed all the associated smell. Just bought 5 moments ago!
