I have this set.. use them everyday for the past 6 months, great knives

      • So then if you've had them for six months now you will probably have had to give them a bit of a sharpening up.
Assuming this is the case, how well did they come up post sharpening?
This 'stage' is often where the 'proof in the pudding' is with knives IMO, and resultant edge retention of course.

I sharpen the chef's knife once every two weeks.. a glide over the dry stone, minimal pressure. They come up as new. I had to adjust the way I handle the chef's knife, it's about an 10mm longer than my Santoku knife. I cut myself a few times in the first month. It's super sharp out of the box.

          • @knackers: Cheers. I appreciate that.

      Should be, it was $299.

RRP means basically nothing besides market positioning. If they can be sold for a profit at $47 then they aren't $299 knives!

    • Im happy with mine.

Didn’t need knives but I purchased anyway.

    Thanks poster 😍

And looks like Amazon AU is selling this set for $44.99 as well.

Cheers. Purchased at Amazon, which has 12% Cashback with shopback, which comes to around $39.60

Edit: Hopefully Shopback stacks deals and i'll also get the extra $2 cash back, for making an amazon purchase, which makes them $37.60

        • I think it's only 8% unless I missed the increase to 12% >.<

          • @xeion: My shopback still shows 12%. The extra $2 thing is expired

      • Same :(

        • same :( and no bonus voucher to compensate either

  • how good are these knives compared to the ones at kitchen warehouse?

$45 for cheap Chinese knives? No thanks.

    • +4

Not every one needs to be a knife enthusiast, sometimes people just want to get the job done cheaply, nothing wrong with that.

As much as I like gucci knives, my cooking tastes the same regardless of whether I use a $30 or $300 one

    • Well, the steel seems to legitmately come originally from Germany or Japan,

      http://www.master-pro.com.au/knives-and-knife-accessories/

also the company sells a professional whetstone and are part of a bigger conglomerate operating since 1985 with an outlet store in Melbourne, if you really after a bargain price, perhaps the price will be even cheaper there?

  • how does this compare to japanese knifes

    • how does this compare to global knifes i enjoy cooking and enjoy the precision and craftsmanship of japanese knifes and this deal is quite temping, any advise and comment appreciated

      • These are inferior to Global knives by a fair margin. 53 vs 57 hardness rating, meaning the Global knives will get significantly sharper and stay sharp for longer. But these knives seem perfectly usable for most home cooks and this is a good price, you’d pay at least five times as much for a similar Glabal set.

        • thanks where die you find the hardness details?

  • How these compare to Sabatier 6 piece forged Japanies stainless steel knives
    Costco sells them for $39.99

Ordered this via Amazon - but looks like the order delivery dates are for Sept / October. Anyone else experiencing this?
Must have missed this fact in my haste to order.

Probably would have bought this via Ebay otherwise
