Sony A7 III (ILCE7M3B) Camera Body + 24mm-105mm Lens Kit $2567.42 + 2000 Qantas Points Delivered @ Qantas Store

3285
QANTASSTAFF

My first deal post so let me know if I've done anything wrong.

I think this may be a pricing error as the body and 28-70 kit lens is the same price.

The a7iii body went as low as $2000 from memory and the 24-105 went as low as 1500. So if my math is right this particular kit is the cheapest by approx $730.

The cash portion of the purchase also earns you 5541 PTS.

I'm not sure if the Qantasstaff code works (from the Sony WH-1000XM3 post), but if it does it could savd you another 10%.

  • Has anyone had this shipped at all that didn't use the staffcode? Surely at least someone has this honored?

If I don’t receive this camera, I will 100% approach the ACCC. I ordered the day before it was posted on ozbargain, pretty much as soon as the special started. For the amount of money it is, I’m fairly confident I would be one the first people to actually place an order. They must have reasonable stock to be able to sell.
      Couple of points:
      - I did not use qantas staff code, but did use Birthday code.
      - I called on the Wednesday (I think?) like everyone else when someone noted their order was put on hold due to security issues. Got the same response, just wait 3 to 5 days for an answer.
      - I live chatted last week and waited in the queue for 45 minutes to be told that I will receive the camera before the 3rd of September. I saved this interaction.
      - NOT ONCE has Qantas actually contacted me.

    • +2

I ordered it without using any code.

Qantas emailed me to call them.

When I did, they said the order is cancelled because the supplier cannot provide the cameras and IT WILL NEVER become available.

They offered me 2000 points for the compensation. I have strongly rejected the mere 2000 points.

      Very annoyed.

      Will approach ACCC.

      • They clearly waiting for people to cancel. Pretty bad approach

      • Escalate via the Airline Customer Advocate first. Can always go to ACCC later. The airlines pay a fee per complaint that goes through the ACA (industry ombudsman, not to be confused with A Current Affair lol). Once you complain to ACCC, ACA will disregard your claim.

      • 2000 points is worth ~ $20. Spare a thought for those who paid $86 for 2000 points top up which Qantas Frequent Flyers refuse to cancel ;-)

Can you tell me why my order is cancelled? The payment for the full $2552.65 has already come out of my bank account.

    Thanks

  • There are those who are gutted because they did not get the deal.
There are those who are gutted because they bought 2000 worthless points and QFF refused to refund them (QFF made 400% profit on these points).
There are those who are gutted because of both.
No happy users here. QFF stuffed up goodwill this time.

    • If Qantas refuses to refund the transaction of cash used to purchase points, escalate to the airline customer advocate. This is the worst handling of any deal I’ve ever seen. They clearly never intended to honour it once they discovered they wouldn’t make much money off it.

      • And now they have the gall to send out customer experience feedback emails LOL

        • classic automated follow-up marketing. they would've thought they were so clever when they activated the follow-up email system. idiots.

  • Will we get a surprise delivery on Tuesday 3rd September ? My hope is as little as winning the powerball at this point.

Just got this email, I didn’t use any code.
Checked the status its still in process.
Qantas rewards store really looking like a joke

      • I recieved the same email :/

  • I did not use a code and ordered it 12/Aug.
Last week, I got a call which I missed and a subsequent email to ask for call back. When I called, the operator said the camera will not be shipped due to the supplier not being able to provide the items. Said, all will be refunded along with 2000 points.
I said, I will have a think about it and call back later.

Is there a way to enforce Qantas to stick to the deal and send me the camera?
Will ACCC or ACA do anything?
I'm thinking of just getting my money back but at the same time I feel so cheated…

    • +1

      Please see below

    • Update

      I called QANTAS again.
To my surprise, they said there has been a recent development towards getting the cameras to stock.
No specific date was mentioned but asked me to wait for further notice which would be available by late this week.
Unlike the previous conversation where they just said the camera cannot be stocked, this time around there was much more positive tone to it.

But let's just wait and see what happens.
      I will keep you updated.

    Holllllly mollllly:

Email sent today from Qantas at 1:17pm Melbourne time:

    Dear Mr. ____,

We got a reponse from our team.

We're gald to inform you that your order for A7 III With 35mm Full-Frame Image Sensor with Full Frame FE 24-105MM F4 G Lens With Optical Stabilisation will push through.

You should be receiving an update from our courier the soonest.

We thank you for your patience.

If you have any questions, please reply to this email or call us between 8am and 7pm (AEST), Monday to Saturday.

Thank you for being one of the best Qantas members.

I can see there's a typo in there, means that a physical person wrote that response to me.

I will keep you all updated if I get delivery details

    • +4

      Good news here too!

Called the call centre, got told they'll give me an update, usual spiel. Then I received a call back about 10mins later saying it'll dispatch today.

edit: now have aus post tracking info for 2 boxes. Service is "Parcel Post" - so it should be 3 days away.

The order status on the qantas website still says "in process", which may possibly never change lol.

      • +2

        @cptnawesome

That's awesome, did you use any promo code?

I used the birthday code for my order

        • +4

          Birthday code as well :)

Now I've received an email that it has shipped.

The Qantas store status has changed to shipped too.

This is under the tracking info when I click on it:
          ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATE:
          3 BUSINESS DAYS AFTER PICKUP

          currently Aus post info has:
Shipping information received by Australia Post

So Thursday should be "the day".

    • +1

      Congratulations!!!!

    • +1

Did not use the code, and got the same email. Can track the item on Auspost website.

    • When did you initially place the order?

      • @yu1isys

I placed the order on 11-Aug at 12pm

        Mine is getting delivered

  • +1

The birthday code is working and received the shipping email this afternoon. Very happy.

  • +1

Spewinnnnng…..! Congrats to those who are getting it!

  • +2

Congrats! So how many people have received a positive notification? 3 people so far? Trying to figure out how much they are actually sending (% to the orders).

Either way me being me, I ended up buying the Sony on the weekend with the Tamron 28-75mm. Loving it so far!

    • Awesome lens. I just got that lens myself.

    • @Krayzii

I'm going to assume people who didn't use the staff code will receive the order.

If this is not the case somebody please tell me otherwise.

Great Tamron lens choice you've made. There's a rumour there will be a 70-200 f2.8 in future, but I reckon it would still be a while away.

He didn't use the code and it is not getting one.

        • @snvl

That's unfortunate, not sure if it's because he/she ordered on the 12th whereas I ordered on the 11th.

          • @Ausdave: Yep, expected to see some cancelations even if not use the code. 2000 is a pathetic offer tho

PM me if you are selling the camera.

            • +1

              @snvl: @snvl

Yeah was planning on selling just the camera (without lens) for $2.1k-$2.2k.

That might be a tad too much for you, as you can wait for another ozbargain deal around the same price.

Was planning on listing it on eBay in future. Up to you or anybody if they want my one + the invoice for warranty (1 year Qantas + 1 year Sony after registration).

              • +1

                @Ausdave: yep, that's a non-ozb price ;). all the best!

there is one listed on videopro at $2288 if someone is interested.

              • @Ausdave: Would you consider selling it with the lens?

                • @one8two: @one8two

                  No unfortunately, sorry.

Currently only own the sony 70-200 f4 and needed a 24-70 or 24-105, just happened to get lucky when this deal popped up.

I also got lucky and got the Bose in-ear earphones for $20 (rrp $279) yesterday for the eBay 20th birthday sale.

I owe it to the ozbargain site for these deals.

                  • @Ausdave: No problem. Feel free to message me if you change your mind.

I would be happy to pay more for the kit than what you paid.

              • +1

@Ausdave: Try Facebook marketplace. I recently got more than I was expecting for a drone I sold. Also had it listed on Gumtree and Ebay. Seems to be far less tyre-kickers and time-wasters on FB marketplace.

        • +1

I might be getting one… Had a phone call today saying they'll keep me updated.

          • @yu1isys: Im interested. Let me know please

          • @yu1isys: same interested if you plan to sell after get :)

      • +1

Should be announced in October, and will likely be 80-180 or 50-150 or some slightly limited focal length in order to keep weight down (in line with their other two zooms). Makes sense because Sony is the second-largest shareholder in Tamron and needs to release lightweight lenses that don't quite directly compete with their G Master line.

  • +1

Canon RP with 24-105mm f4 lens. $2400 at camera house ebay. might do the trick for some

    • Thats a good general purpose lens (rrp 1500 I believe). Usually stays on my camera when I want to travel light and have no expectation of what to take that day.

      • RRP is $1749. but street price is ~$1500

        • I was fortunate to score that lens new on EBay for less than that :-) Either way at 2400, that would make the RP a great low cost entry for those wanting to try full frame. It very user friendly from what I read.

If anyone who's order got filled and has buyers remorse I'd be happy to purchase from them. Please PM me.

  • Hope all the ACCC disputes costed these pricks time and money.

  • My order just got cancelled and the rep advised that the cancellation was due to unavailability of stock and did not mention anything about promo code which I used. Before the cancellation, I was told that my order got fully approved and is in the hand of the supplier. Oh well… saved 2,5k…

    • lol. these guys couldn't be any more incompetent if they tried.

    • The email I received from Qantas this afternoon says the following:

Please be advised that we are processing your refund request. This may take 7 to 10 business days.
If you have any further queries, please call us on 1300 662 859 between 8am and 7pm (AEST), Monday to Saturday.

And I have never filed any refund request. :-(

      • +2

File your own request with the ACCC

  • +12

Can confirm i have received the camera and lens. Great to get the product, but an absolute sh#t show from Qantas.

    • Congrats!

    • +4

I can confirm I received the camera and lens yesterday also.

For the new Sony owners, I recommend YouTubing an overview/recommended menu settings (very tedious)

      I also recommend this channel:
      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd333V2AbeUItnE_fO1zRtA

He is a very intelligent person, and puts a lot of effort in his videos.

I really respect him offering youtube videos and also guides on his website for free.

    • +1

Recieved mine too today! Now just waiting on the glass screen protector and nitecore charger.

  • Anyone purchased a camera strap for the A7III?

  • Anyone successful getting refund on their points top up?

    • +1

Issued a charge back with the bank. Still waiting for a response

      • I finally got it refunded from Qantas! They told me that it would be 5 days for the refund about 1 month ago and I just assumed it would happen… When I remembered last week I rang again and I got the refund yesterday :)
You have to speak to Qantas Customer service… Not to the staff at the Qantas store! I purchased 2000 points

        • Got a number to call?

        • I just called Qantas Frequent Flyer team (02 8222 2589), and they said there is nothing that they can do.. still no refund for me..

  • +1

Nothing from Qantas until today when suddenly on the website, the order status = "Cancelled" with refund of the points (no additional compensation). WTF?
What's happened to the "positive development"?

    • Did you use any codes?

      • +1

        No code used. Ordered 12/Aug.

        -Update-

Called Qantas just now. They said my order somehow got mixed with those who used QantasStaff code.
Said, it should have not been cancelled. The order will be escalated to senior manager. Will email me in 2 business days.
        WTF…

    • +1

Yesterday, they told me that they'll get back to me by today. Nothing…
SO I called them in the morning. The matter has been escalated. Said, they'll have an answer by the end of the day.
I called at the end of today. The matter has been escalated. Said, they'll have an answer by tomorrow..

      What a bunch of morons…

      • So any update after that?

  • +3

    The saga continues.

My order was cancelled weeks ago, and I just had 5135 points applied to my qantas account.

    These clowns have no idea.

  • +1

    Concur.

I called them this morning for my refund (they've had my money for a month now!) and said to call back tomorrow if I still haven't received.

Took them 3 weeks to notify me that they have cancelled and another 5-10 business days to allow refund processing time.

Absolute disgrace by Qantas on how they've handled this whole debacle.

  • Similarly with Telstra. What is happening to our world class companies.

  • +1

And the final icing on the cake of incompetence…

QantasStore now have the a7iii 28-70 kit zoom bundle back in stock…

… complete with a picture of the a7iii with the 24-105/f4.

    https://www.qantasstore.com.au/p/sony-ilce7m3kb-a7-iii-35mm-…

    • Out of stock my a***

  • There is this guy who is in charge and earns $24m per year
