  • Is there going to be a new Apple Watch this year? What are we expecting?

    • +1

      Every year!!

    • +1

dont see how they can improve it in such a short time frame since last one, especially since all the features advertised on 4 are still pending in some regions. Like to the ECG heart function has been turned on for Australia and a few other countries.

So very much doubt any change to apple watch be coming any time soon, I reckon 2022 when they try and add sleep monitoring or at least try and catch up with the competition.

      • +1

To be honest I only use my Watch 3 for message notification and when I’m in the pool or at the beach. Yes it does record my runs and other exercises but I don’t even look at them so there is little point.

        • +3

yeah most reviews on youtube after long term use all say the same thing, that they hardly use the functions of the watch.

For me the only value is the ECG function, but that not available in Aus yet so no point getting it now. Other good feature is not for me but for my folks when they get older, the fall detection thing be good but I assume the competition can come up with something similar.

          • @bargrin: And by the time it enables the ECG in Aus, you have to update your watch os to use it, and the update makes it so slow that you don't want to use it!

        • Maybe I am in the minority but there already is an awesome app for monitoring your sleep called AutoSleep and albeit you need to pay for it, it was quite impressive.
I use it for fitness activities, handy for the Apple wallet and the multfactor auth especially with apps like Microsoft Authenticator.
Just depends on your needs though but is more than capable and I’ve only got the 3rd gen version.

          • @xeno85: I’m quite interested in how you manage to kept the watch on the wrist while you sleep and still have enough juice for the next day?

            • +4

              @chrisfeng20: Hey @chrisfeng20,
When I am getting ready in the morning, I put it on charge whilst I shower and eat breakfast. Took me a while to get into the habit but it’s like clockwork for me now and haven’t missed a sleep in long time

          • @xeno85: I use mine for credit card payments all the time. Went to woolies the other day and accidentally left my wallet at home, used the watch for my woolies card and credit card. Saved me driving all the way home to get my wallet. Could have used my phone for the same thing though.

            • @lunchbox99: That’s true, it’s very convenient. I still have to have the phone on me (no cellular in my watch), so I assume I’d just use my phone for that. Not a selling point for the watch.

              • +1

@pizzaguy: You don’t need your phone to process Apple Pay transactions from your watch, just as you don’t need anything to transmit the transaction from a normal credit card. The terminal that you are paying via does that.

            • @lunchbox99: You can also do cardless cash from an ATM or use your phone.

I find my series 3 watch too unreliable to think of any serious use. Siri is slow or not responding at all, same with other apps. Music controls are fussy. You can’t temporarily switch off haptic feedback, which means you’re either permanently connected or need to switch on the night mode and don’t see any notifications, even if someone is calling you.

I wouldn’t expect it to be better in series 4.

It seems a tech marvel at first, only to the astonishing disappointment after some time. Possibly one of the most useful feature is to ping your phone to make it play a sound so you can find it, but I don’t remember missing it when I didn’t have the watch.

          • +1

@pizzaguy: The difference between the S4 and even the S3 is night and day. The larger screen and much faster processor make them feel like completely different devices.

            • @Flying Ace: I hope so, however I’m staying sceptical, because of how bad it is in s3, and because of what I read in reviews of airpods 2 - apparently they also have a new chip, but siri is still laggy - and apple let that happen only recently? Also, don’t siri and other apps depend mostly on connectivity with the phone (which seems not good enough for most of them)? I have iphone 7. It’s usually a disappointing long wait (for siri, for shazam, for a call to hang up too, occasionally), even if the phone is right next to me and/or wifi is fine and reaches every device.

Also you’re mentioning the difference only - even if s4 is way better, it doesn’t mean it’s snappy and satisfying.

Please correct me if I’m wrong!

            • @Flying Ace: Actually I disagree. I don't think the 4 is much different at all - I have owned both 4 and 3. The screen size is the only obvious difference. I have not noticed any apps that run "faster" in any meaningful way.

        • There is a new app called Applestroke You wear the applewatch on your right hand and it records how many strokes…

      • Main Rumors for next model seem to be sleep monitoring and bigger battery https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-watch-series-5-will-reported…

      • +1

From rumours and recent leaks it seems like there is a Series 5 coming out this year. The leaks show an image stating that the new models are going to have a titanium and ceramic models! Most likely the biggest changes are going to be sleep tracking, better battery and better performance!

Few rumours about the new watch, but I would wait. 12-13% off an Apple watch that will be replaced within a month is not such a great deal.

It will be faster, but I think probably not too much faster - more like an S model for an iPhone.

Apple Watch 6 may adopt new display technology if they can get it working in time, which probably means not and Apple Watch 7 will be the new design. So 2021-2022, I agree.

This is a sign for new generation of Apple Watch series-5 will be coming soon.

Apple Watch Series 5 will most likely have higher AUD prices. Current AUD is weaker than 12 months ago when Apple Watch Series 4 was released.

  • Dumb parent PC master race question..(With two sub 10 boys that love Fortnite)
With Fortnite on the PS4, do we need to have a monthly Sony subscription to enjoy MP?

Too used to the benefits of PC. Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Hey mate for Fortnite specifically you don’t need a PlayStation plus account.Same goes for Apex. Any other game though you’ll need an active membership to play online

      • Appreciate the reply, thanks!
