You can also add $150 12-month prepaid plan at discounted rate of $135. This 10% stacks on top of that.

    •

Where do you put in the code if you're just recharging? Can you do it through their app?

      • +1 vote

As mentioned in the OP's post, I don't believe it works for recharges. The one I mentioned above is when you bundle the sim along with a refurbished phone. Hope this helps!

    •

$137 on ebay currently if you don't mind waiting until the end of the month. Well $140 but they accept an offer a few dollars less.

  •

So I just had a look, is it just me or does it look like you don’t actually have to be a current customer to redeem this?

    •

Probabaly not. The SIM means you can become a customer easily if you want to.

This has been a promo for a while. A good deal but you’ll probably find refurbished phones cheaper on eBay.

      How about 12 months warranty?
"Refurbished phones are backed by Alegre’s 12-month warranty, so you can rest assured that you’re covered."

Are these refurbished (damaged parts replaced, new battery if it’s not as-new, etc)?

Or are they just used phones that are given a “check up” (i.e in no way refurbished)?

From the FAQ if you read the website (scroll down and expand the FAQ sections)

A refurbished phone is a gently used, authentic phone that has undergone intensive testing and inspection to ensure it is in great working condition. The phone may have minor surfaces scratches or scuffs, but this will in no way affect the function of the phone.

Our partner Alegre, sources only Australian compliant phones that have been data wiped and cross checked against a national police lost and stolen database. They perform an industry leading 72 point check to ensure that the phone performs at a high standard.

So these phones are tested and inspected, but it's possible that nothing was done to the phone to enhance it's condition. I assume that the old battery will still be left as-is and you should expect some light cosmetic damage.

        So they’re just used phones.

The deal should be marked as such, because if no work was done to recondition the phone to like-new condition, it’s just a second-hand phone.

Refurbished has a meaning in the electronics industry, and this isn’t it.

Phone recyclers using the term “refurbished” should be investigated for misleading advertising, and this deception shouldn’t be propagated in OzBargain deals. They’re “used” or “recycled” phones.

I agree. Unfortunately we've been reconditioned to accept a looser definition.

        •

You make a good point. I view these as "good conditioned used" with 12-month warranty.

      •

        gently used

        Haha, really

Has anyone on OzB Bought a refurbished / second hand phone from these guys in the last 3 months since they launched / relaunched and can comment on the quality of the phones?

    •

Yep. Just bought an iPhone 7 for my father last week. The phone is in very good condition, just a couple of marks on the corners. Battery life reported at 90%.

I'm really spewing that this discount wasn't available last week!!

That's the US store and the price is USD

      •

        ah bummer -_-

10% off phones that have just been given a wipe? No thanks.

    • +2 votes

It's a 10% discount on the price of a refurb/2nd hand. It's not as if an extra 10% would get you a brand new phone.

You can buy a brand new GS9 for $779 from Kogan (for example, no endorsement), but it's $521 for a second hand one with a battery in unknown condition? Pass.

    •

Agreed. Even JB Hifi had it for $799

  •

Can you use 10% for their $150 pre-paid plan? or need to buy a phone as well

    •

It doesn't work without the phone purchase. I think it will work with a phone purchase though.

  •

I got an SMS from Boost about that. It has OptOut option by replying back to the 1800. I tried and fails to send saying the number cannot accept SMSs. Hummmmmm, so can't opt out of Boost marketing spam! Great (not)!
Anyone else receive and try opt out?

Do you know if the iPhones are locked?

  •

Might be worthwhile to wait for another new offer from Samsung Enhanced Partnership Program

    •

      What is this offer?

  • +1 vote

Alegre site doesn't say what they do to the phones other than grading and a "72 point check." I'm guessing that 70 of those points are cable ties.

    Samsung S8+ sold out.
