    Great TV - brilliant price.

Picked one up around a month ago (unfortunately at a higher price), but no regrets on the purchase.

  • Isn'tthis $999 at big w?

    • That’s x70f Old model

    • +2

… And impossible to get! Cheap tactic by BIG W to get free publicity and foot traffic into their stores…

  • +2

    WA - stock @ Cannington & Cockburn

Or pickup from their distribution centre in Welshpool.

Not all of us live in castles that can allow for it.

      • +2

Serious question, am I missing something? According to the magical interwebs, ideal distance from a 75inch tv is 3.2m on rtings. Hardly castle proportions

        • +1

          woosh

.. was exaggerating to make a point

          • +1

@FlatulentFrank: Well obviously I wasn’t suggesting that only her majesty has the space for a big screen. I was simply saying that I don’t necessarily think that the ideal distance of 3.2m is a large room. I will concede that “large” is subjective so perhaps to some it is.

The specifications say its "Motionflow XR 100Hz"

The TV's refresh rate will actually be 50hz, with LED Motion Mode to "feel" like 100hz

Some people notice the difference, some people don't…

Keep it in mind if you are picky about that sort of stuff.

  • KD65X8000G is 50Hz. Lots of jitter on fast moving picture.

    • Not necessarily. Ive had/have several 50hz and 100hz panels, mostly samsung and hisense of late. Chip and firmware play a large part in how a panel handles image processing and motion. Can be a big difference between different 50hz models alone. 24p content however can be a bit more of a hassle. That said I've not had a Sony for a few years now.

  • This is IPS… AVOID.. the blacks are purple/grey

    • Not good for cardoons?

    • IPS panels are usually excellent - You might be thinking of TN panels

      • +1

You're thinking of PC monitors where IPS is desired. Very different use cases, you aren't watching movies/tv shows on your pc monitor in a low light room.

IPS is awful for a TV, avoid if possible unless you only watch in a bright room.

      • +1

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/ips-led-vs-va-lcd

        "Conclusion
Neither technology is inherently superior to the other, they both serve different purposes. In general, IPS TVs will have a wide viewing angle suitable for use in a bright living room for sports or TV shows. They also benefit PC monitor use, since edges darken with a low viewing angle. VA TVs will instead have better contrast rendering them better for use in a dark, home-theater type of environment. Choosing between the two is a series of trade-offs and qualities, so pick depending on your usage, as neither are the absolute best."

    • Not everyone says directly in front of their TV

  • The GG Ebay store shows no stock at my local but the GG official website shows stock. Such a pain.

  • +3

If you have 2 AMEX cards with Sony offer, it will be $100 cheaper if you buy in Sony store. This model is currently advertised as $1395 ($1095 with 2 AMEX)

Better yet if you could ask them to price match this eBay price. Will be a killer price @$885.

  • How does this compare to Hisense p8?

    • +2

Do you mean R8? Would also be interested how this stacks up against the high(er) end Hisense

  • +1

Don't buy any Sony TV that doesn't start with 9.

    Rest are pure garbage

    • +1

Bit of hyperbole there mate. Have you personally tested and reviewed every Sony TV? What about the the X83F? What about the A8G?!

      • X83f is garbege

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x830f

On par with Samsung RU8000 NU8000 Q60 etc.

A8G is OLED so it's good but not for that price.

        • +1

The review you linked to starts "The Sony X830F is a good 4k TV"

          • @hen dawg: Good means average in rtings
Usually starts with Great or Excellent.

        • Haha, yep one review from rtings and you've formulated your opinion, probably without ever seeing or using one. Nicely done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH816EWvDRY

          • @Willstho: Look at the score
7.2 for movies that's lower than Samsung RU8000.

There is no review site that is as comprehensive, objective and methodological as Rtings on the net.

  • Pay a couple of hundred more and get TCL 65X7 65" QLED - Quantum Dot "200 Hz" (so 100hz?) - 3 year warranty

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/65X7-TCL-65-Inch-Series-X-X7-QLE…

1450$ + $40 delivery with PAPA code or pick up Villawood

  • Thanks OP. Been after a Sony TV for some time. Managed to get stock at Tuggerah to avoid postage fee.

Next challenge will be wall mounting. Any advice on which mount to use and any tips people have?

I'll be honest I'm not one for DIY so I am scared.

    • +1

Kogan do a good value one. May be better off paying someone to do if scared. They could hide wires in wall at same time

  • For anyone interested. Went to Good Guys Chadstone,Vic, and got the TV price matched for $1235 delivered. They had no stock but arranged from another store. See Simon, great to deal with. Better hurry as the $1395 deal ends today.
But knowing my luck, a better deal might be around the corner.

  • Is the code PANTHER only valid if you are eBay Plus member? :(

Damn got this from good guys last week at 1395!!!! Very annoyed! but happy with purchase
