  • Does anyone know of any other health funds who might be doing similar cashbacks?

  • Private health insurance, lol

    • You must earn under 90k, lol

      • I should be able to get my taxable income low enough that the amount I'll pay in the levy will be close to what decent PHI would cost me. I've only recently cancelled so going to give it 3 years and then review before LHC kicks in. Mainly did it to send a message as I can live without PHI and not financially worse off not having it.

        • Sorry just curious, could you put some more light on this :

I'll pay in the levy will be close to what decent PHI would cost me

I am assuming you meant Medicare levy surcharge. Why would you rather pay MLS and not have PHI instead for a similar cost?

PS: Sorry just realised the LHC doesn't affect you as you are not 31 yet.

          • +1

A form of protest. Figured I can get away with it while I'm young.

I'm over 31. I get 3 years grace of no cover before I get the LHC as I had PHI when I turned 30.

            • @7hours 44min ago: A protest is a bit silly once you’re due to actually pay for the MLS. Even if you have PHI you can opt not to disclose it and go public. Once you’re stuck paying either way you may as well have PHI as a backup or to cover things that Medicare won’t or will make you wait for than not paying, possibly pay more in tax and have less choice later on if you need healthcare.

If you aren’t going to pay MLS right now then that’s a different matter.

              • @Smigit:

I've had PHI my whole life. Apart from optical and dental, I've never had value from it. Even then, it would've probably been cheaper if I just paid for teeth cleaning and glasses myself. While I'm still fit and healthy I think I'll manage my own health costs. Every year I'll reevaluate but as I earn just enough that the MLS equals cheap PHI, I'll tell PHI to get stuffed.

  • will the bonus50 work just for extras ?

    • YES, it will work.

      • ok thanks.
reading the terms for the gift card.
"For 'bonus cash card' offers, the reward will be mailed out to new Members in the form of an HIF branded EFTPOS gift card.
For domestic policyholders, gift cards will be mailed out to the Member's nominated postal address approximately 6 weeks after the policy has commenced, once one month's premium has been paid to HIF, and the 30 cooling off period has been served."

so 6 weeks and card be sent out ? then potentially move on after that?
will actually use the extras on some physio as well.

  • This offer has been ongoing and is not new. Been offered now for over 12 months just with different promo codes but always on offer.
