  • Does anyone know how data is charged for these? Doesn't say on website or in CIS. On JB's website it says per mb, so you could chew up your 80gb pretty quickly. Boost help chat had no idea what I was asking, kept trying to tell me how many kB were in a GB and that I needed to download the app, was very helpful..

    • Good question and the boost documentation is annoyingly silent on this

    • +1

It's charged in 1KB blocks. For example:

      HISTORY
      24/08/2019 07:59:58  telstra.internet  Data  8253kbytes  $0.00

      24/08/2019 07:19:15  telstra.internet  Data  1kbytes  $0.00

      24/08/2019 07:12:58  telstra.internet  Data  1kbytes  $0.00

      24/08/2019 06:56:48  telstra.internet  Data  1kbytes  $0.00

      24/08/2019 06:49:08  telstra.internet  Data  1kbytes  $0.00

  • Does anyone know if this Boost Prepaid includes Live Data-Free Sport such as the Telstra plans?
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

    • Yep. Officially no, but the backend is the same so those sports apps can’t tell the difference between a Telsta or Boost customer.

Don’t hinge your decision on this as it may change with no notice since technically boost shouldn’t be getting them.

  • +1

Daft question, but if I have remaining data at 12months but recharge again, will the remaining data left over be rolled over?

    • +1

      No.

  • +2

    I saw there's Lebara 100GB data 180 days for $100 on sale.

So if you use two in a year, that is $200 for 200GB.

    $16.67 for 16.67GB per month.

    Compared to this

$11.67 for 6.67GB per month, might be useful for the people need a little more data.

And after 6 months, it might be even cheaper.

But be aware of Lebara's dodgy business.

    • Where did you see this advertised? Couldn't see on their website…

      TIA

      • +1

        Here
Lebara Mobile: 180 Day Plan (100GB, Unlimited to 20 Countries) $100 @ Coles (Normally $135)
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/478196

Good part of it is, you have data bank, and can roll over as long as you keep your lebara service active (before the expiry date),
max 200GB in data bank, and you can gift out your data to anyone (max 10GB to one number?)

Bad thing is it's on Vodafone network.

And this price is sale price, usual price $135, so after 6 months, you may need to pay $135 if you want to keep the data in your data bank.

        There's mention of
'You would have to recharge your mobile service with the voucher by September 5, 2019 to receive the promo bonus.', but does not say what part is considered
        as the 'promo bonus'?

This plan doesn't seem to be on there website either ( 100GB for 180 days, $135). The website only has 70GB for $95 180 Days plan.

        • Thank you very much for this.

But shucks, I don't know what to choose!

Currently on Lebara, and it expires beginning of September. Reception has been absolutely fine for me.

Boost is 365 days plan for $140; so $11.66/month for 6.67GB/month
Lebara is 180 days plan for $100, so $16.67/month for 16.67GB/month

          Any ideas?

          • @Uncle Roger: I say Lebara is better for you since you already with them saves the porting hassle and the reception Is ok for you. Data bank and data gift is handy . They might sell it for 100 or less after six months, or more data on 135

        • +2

Bad thing is it's on Vodafone network.

Except of course for the many places where it isn't a bad thing.

          • @GregMonarch: For those thinking about Lebara. That deal expired on the 27th.

  • Does this service support international roaming? I mean like receiving SMS aboard , won't use talk or data while roaming.

    • +5

I can confirm it works in UAE

      • +7

I have boost and travel quite a bit, free to receive sms. Can't do anything else, but at least I get my bank sms text when I need it.

        • Thanks good to know.

    • Did you guys have to do the $5 add-on for international roaming?

  • I have this plan and it has been pretty good. I live on the Sunshine Coast and reception where I live is great with pretty good data speeds depending on time of day. I am also running a cheap Kogan deal for data but it's pretty useless as the data at times just stops for long periods! The same phone had no issues on Telstra.

    • I should have keep using Kogan for cheap data. I went and bought 20 x Voda $40 starter pack for $10 and now they have deleted their bonus 25g data from their website, so now $40 voda starter pack only gives me 20g of data instead of 45g per 35 days. Spewing.

  • Easy porting?
    I am on Optus now

    • Easy if you're the primary holder of the Optus account. Everything can be done online under 5 mins with a driver's licence

    • My contract ended with Optus last Friday and I ported to Boost Saturday morning. Was done in minutes, as was my wife's. No fuss, no mess. I'm not far from a huge Telstra tower at Bargara shops and call quality is noticeably better with fewer "noise" and dropouts. Haven't done a Speedtest on data but videos upload very fast from down at Bargara Beach where I post every morning to torture my adult kids living in Canberra and Melbourne :-)

  • +2

I wish there was some deal on the 240GB.

  • Can you use gift card to buy this? Can you buy the $150 recharge credit from the self checkout?

    • +1

I think both woolies and big w have stopped the use of wish gift card to pay anything looks like gift card, including recharge vouchers, sim start pack, etc etc. Self checkout used to be ok, but now it will just tell you not accepted

  • Did BigW also have the higher ($300) annual pre-paid available on sale? or just this one?

  • How do I get more data then this would be perfect

  • This looks really good - I do have a question I hope someone can answer - can you add data to this plan once you run out of 80GB? Do they have data bolt on packs?

    • Did a quick chat, and was told extra addon data is $5 for 1gb, $15 for 3gb & $20 for 4 gb.

  • +1

Just got the catalogue runs from 29 August to 11 September

  • +1

Had a live chat with Boost and also called their support number.
They cannot transfer credit from 1 sim to another.
Telstra customers will need to port out to a non-Testra service and then port into Boost using the discounted SIM kit.

    • How about Belong? It uses Telstra service.

      • Keen to know about Belong vs Boost by those with experience

        • +1

Boost is superior to Belong for at least 3 reasons I can think of. There could be more.

Boost uses the full Telstra retail network. Belong uses the Telstra wholesale network. For many people they won't notice any difference in service but if you live in a rural or regional area it could make a great deal of difference.

With Boost you get proper Messagebank voicemail not the "Leave a short 10 second message…" you get with Belong.

Boost supports VoLTE (voice over LTE or 4G} which gives you better voice call quality. Belong specifically turns this feature off on your account. In fact if you go from Belong to Boost you'll have to phone Boost to get them to turn VoLTE back on.

    • Anyone knows if I can port from aldi to boost? Another question is will Coles price match bigw on this?

      • +1

Yes you can port from Aldi with no issues

    • @ TheDarkside - If porting from telstra, you call boost and they will send you a black sim, then you port your telstra number and add the recharge to it.

      • +1

Will this work with the bigw offer? This is sim deal not credit deal like Coles one right?

      • @amshopping - yep that's the way I understood it, but this offer is for a SIM kit and the $150 credit/plan is tied to the SIM. The Coles offer recently was for a recharge voucher which has the flexibility of being applied to any active Boost SIM.

The issue with this offer is the discount is on a SIM kit and they won't/can't transfer the $150 credit onto the blank sim they send you (if you're a Telstra customer).

So if you're porting from Telstra and want to take up this offer, you need to port from Telstra to somewhere else (using a free/cheap sim) and then buy the sim kit and port into it during activation.

        • Very clear explanation mate, thanks heaps. I'll try asking Coles if they can match and get the credit voucher instead, saving me porting around.

        • +1

@TheDarkSide - Yes that will work, i was also told that once you port your number to the blank sim, you can call them with the new kit(bought from big w) and they can transfer the credit to your activated blank sim.

          • @Yoo05: @amshopping - having spoken to their live chat and phone support; both said they won't transfer the sim credit to the blank sim. I read that others have had luck doing this in the past but at the moment they are saying they won't.

Might just have to wait until the offer is live and see if Boost will allow credit transfer to the activated blank sim

            • +2

@TheDarkSide: Yes i was on live chat too, and they said they can do it..will see how they do it..

              • @Yoo05: I was told they can't do it as well. I just took a new number and cancelled my Telstra one.

  • Does anyone know if call forwarding is included with this?

Couldn't see any mention of it in the CIS or FAQs.

    Thanks in advance.

    • +2

I tested on mine when I first got it 6 months ago and call foreward tested fine.

      • Thanks mate - I just wanted to make sure, because my Amaysim prepaid deal didn't include call-forwarding, had to sign up for an extra cost. Really appreciate the info.

  • Decided to port to Boost today to give it a couple of days before the Kogan SIM I ported to from Telstra expired, and luckily I did as tried twice now and both times getting

The government database that we use to verify your ID is experiencing technical difficulties. Try using another form of ID or try again later.

Have to restart and re-enter all the information again from the start to move away from that screen. Will try again tomorrow..

    • Just call them to get it ported, I've had difficulties using the website as well.

      • I did it through online chat yesterday, checked just then and they had no record of the port being put through. So done it once again.

It’s seriously not that difficult, when I ported from Telstra postpaid to Kogan earlier this month it literally took an hour and was all done online with Kogan, now trying to port back to Boost seems to be the most difficult thing in the world for them.

  • Does anyone know if VOLTE only works on certain 4g bands? My phone has bands 3(1800), 5(850) and 40(2300) and I can't get VOLTE to work on my phone. I did ring up boost and got them to activate it from their end but still no luck.

  • Does anyone know if boost provide 2g coverage (Christmas island)?

  • How come I cannot see this catalog online. Their website has 2 and they both are finishing in Sept so wondering if they will start third catalog before that.

  • Does anyone know if JB Hi Fi sells these??

Can make use of the $10 evoucher then …

  • +3

Ported to this deal yesterday from the last $140 special. Absolutely dreadful support, got a message to say porting failed, contacted them and they said have to wait 24-48 hours. The old Kogan Sim no longer works and can get calls & sms coming in to the boost sim since 8am this morning, just can't send anything out. Knew I should of stayed away from telstra, never had porting issues with amaysim, catch, kogan or Lebrara

    • That sounds really odd. I have done two ports from Kogan prepaid to Boost (from a previous Coles deal) and in both cases the port was completed within minutes. All via online process. Could not have been simpler.

      • +3

I’m having the same issue with porting, although mine isn’t going through at all.

Apparently Boost are doing a ‘system upgrade’ right now which is causing ports to be delayed by 24-72 hours. Very frustrating, especially with their online system failing and then my first port request through an operator getting ‘lost’ in the system. My month with Kogan ends on Friday, I really don’t want to have to recharge with them before I port to Boost 😒😒

  • Can we buy it online? Or need to go to store?

  • Price keeps getting cheaper, wonder if I should wait in a few more months as my plan expires then

  • +2

Just bought one. Tried to use egift card at the electronics counter, however the eftpos terminal actually blocked it when it put in egift card details. Also staff discount doesnt apply either :(. Good deal nonetheless.

    • Hey @chrool, what's the expiry date of the voucher?

      • +2

I just got one too. Expires 28 April 2021

        • Do you have to get the physical SIM package or just get the $150 recharge voucher to get the discount?

        • Wow, long expiry, might get early in prep for my aldi that's expiring in feb

    • What!! Staff discount doesn't work!?!

  • +5

FYI Porting process for Boost is down today and has been since the start of the week. ETA is later this afternoon after 1pm.

Expect massive queues from everyone trying to activate and port across.

    • My partner tried porting over from Telstra the other day and it was down… she ended up having to pay for another month with them cause her prepaid plan was about to expire.

  • +6

    I don't get this. ~400 upvotes for just $10 off a $150 item? Which equates to ~6.67%

Sure, a discount is a discount but 400? Why?

    • +4

Best plan on the market made even cheaper I guess.

      • +1

If I was looking at a $150 item on ebay and a $10 discount came up, I would really not get that excited about it, but perhaps that's different? Since we are flooded with discount codes there.. 😂

    • People go crazy on here when Wish gift cards are increased by 0.5%..

  • -1

    bought 2

  • Can anyone confirm whether you can use wish e-gift card to purchase these??

    • Chrool (up above) tried and it didn't seem to work.

  • I'm currently on the $100 for 6months with 60gb and 30gb unused does the data rollover when i top up?

    • No roll overs. It's tied to Sim, not to the account.

  • can I port my number?

    • Yes you can.

  • I've been loving my BOGOF Kogan Medium plan deal for the past 11 months (around $10/month after discounted Kogan gift cards purchase). I'm guessing there's nothing comparable anymore, right?

I wish Boost let you choose whether you want international calls or extra data…

  • Has any existing boost customer bought one today and just recharged with the $150? There seems to be a lot of confusion/grey area over this on if the recharge is tied to the new sim or not.

    • I am reading as it being tied to the SIM card. In turn would need to Port out to a different supplier from existing Boost Sim and then back into the supplied $150 giftcard SIM. If this is the case, not really worth the hassle just to save $10!

  • Got it.. can't use Wish gift card

  • -1

so if I buy this now, can I activate in October? what is the time limit? and hows the reception which network they use?

  • +1

Just letting everyone know it wouldn't accept Wish egift card as payment. The payment was declined when I bought this morning.

    • +1

Thanks for letting everyone know - I was about to buy an egift card specifically for it.
