  • Got one. Thanks OP.

  • My experience with this:

I had to buy the sim pack.

I could not use WISH Gift cards.

I could not directly port in from Telstra.

Credit tied to the sim and even with blank sim I could not use it.

I have ended up just getting a new number, which is a little bit of a pain but on the bright side - fewer tele-marketers (for now).

All-in-all, cheap and cheerful and about $34 cheaper per month.

  • The Boost sim i purchased expire in April 2021 … But i dont want to use the preloaded $150 now.
Can i confirm the card will be active after i first time use it or registered on Boost?
When is the last day i can activate the sim card with the $150? by the expiry date of the sim card or certain amount of time after being preloaded by BigW?

  • +2

Sold out at Macquarie Centre (NSW). Staff said they had 11 this morning, went quickly.

  • Don’t go to the one at Brickworks (SA). Their system can’t activate the credit onto the card.

  • I went to Big W(QV-Vic) and they told me they don't sell Boost prepaid plan, asked me to go to Woolworth. Anyone in Victoria bought one?

    • I went to Big W(Waverley Gardens) this morning. Bought two, but wasn't able to use E-gift cards. So paid full $280.
Not sure how many are still left in stock.

      • Went to Waverley Gardens at 4pm and there were none to be seen. Shame……

        • There is plenty at BigW Pakenham 😁
          I just bought one.

    • I went there during lunch break. The guy said they didn't have it yet

    • I went in at about 8:30am this morning. Lady said the manager was looking for them. I returned after work and a guy told me they had sold out. When I told him what the lady said in the morning, he admitted they didn’t have any in stock. So it looks like they had none to begin with.

      Poor form by them.

  • Sold out in Brisbane CBD. I actually wasn't expecting it to be sold out so went later in the day than I normally would to buy something on sale. They can't (or won't) check stock levels at other stores.

  • +3

Went to Bigw QV Melbourne CBD. They don't even have it.

  • No stock at Carindale Qld either.

  • No stock at bigw Boxhill Vic.

  • +2

No stock at BigW Merrylands and Auburn NSW. Looks like they only 8 or so and all sold already.

  • I have got two from Werribee - VIC store. But cannot activate as they are updating their system and may take 72 hour….. Seventy Two hours.

I am so disappointed and feel like I am stuck with Boost

  • Spoke to the local Big W rep, with catalogue in hand - He said he's never seen that SKU

  • +2

    For those in Canberra.
Majura don't stock it and won't get them in.
City sold out as of lunch today but will get more in.
Gungahlin had 12 when I bought mine at 4pm today. (but the first one wouldn't activate so he got me a new one)

    • none left in Gungahlin.

      • Can u pay with a gift card? Does it come with a sim card?

        • As far as I understand, it does include sim card, and no, you can't pay with gift card.
But all that is pointless, because there is no stock anywhere.

  • No deal in Darwin. No stock and staff that can't be arsed.

  • Just got the last one from Kilkenny SA, expiry date 28 April 2021. EGift cards are not accepted showing items not supported

  • No stock at Big W Riverton (WA). Asked them to check other stores, they said none in any of the others and none in transit, meaning they don’t have any coming in this week.

    • Just picked up one from Mirrabooka. They had 3 more stacked on the counter.

    • I picked one up from Riverton at around 11.30am.

    • Picked two up from Belmont. They had plenty left.

  • I got one at Karingal in Vic tonight. It wasn't in the 'Tech' section with all the other phone Sims, but near the front of the store with the Gift Cards.

  • 4 left at Chermside QLD. Behind the counter in the tech section (need to ask a staff member to get them).

  • Got one from Marion, SA. They were behind the $100 sims.

    • Is that in the technology department or front service?

      • +1

Tech, at the back of the store.

  • +1

They are so tightly integrated with Telstra's system that I ported from Telstra Prepaid to Boost and it carried over my remaining credit and expiry date (no data or free calls so everything was eating into that credit until I recharged with Boost).

    • That's a good thing right?

  • +1

Sold out at Bankstown Big W

    • NooOooOOooo

  • +3

    Unable to port.
Trying to port since Monday, my current plan finishing today and they are telling me 3rd day in a row the same bull* that my request will be done within 24 to 72 hours since Monday.
So I will have to pay my current provider for next period anyway. Incompetent people.

    • I had the same issue with porting, luckily it went through this morning.

Have they sent you a text about checking your email to verify it? The port happened about 10 mins after that for me (likewise this was the last day of my initial month with Kogan, so really the timing was perfect).

    • +1

I finally managed to port my number!

I found out through Live Chat that the account number that I provided online on Wednesday got wiped from their records. I had to provide all my details again, but my SIM was activated within minutes.

This has not been a simple port. I really hope all this effort is worth it…

    • My port went through without any issues.

  • +6

Surprised this deal is so popular for a mere saving of $10.

  • Anyone managed to get a raincheck?

    • If they have no idea when the deal will be back, it's hard to get a raincheck.

      • +1

the deal doesn't need to come back for a raincheck to be fulfilled… they just need stock

        • Came back from BigW Highpoint this morning. No stock, and was told they're not likely to re-stock by 11 Sept.

          • @[Deactivated]: A raincheck means you can get the item for the sale price AFTER the sale has ended. They're usually good for ~30 days from the date of issue.

            • @mapax: I know what it means, but they have no idea if and when they will re-stock. If you're happy to wait for however long it takes, maybe worth asking for a raincheck.

              • @[Deactivated]: Gotchya. When you said "not likely to re-stock by 11th Sept" it made it sound a bit like you weren't aware of how it works.

    • no chance after calling 7 stores

  • +3

Hopefully Coles will have another deal soon
    !

    BIG W SUCK HARD

  • made the mistake of ordering and porting into a $2 sim starter pack earlier in the week in anticipation of this offer …the operator said it's possible to "activate" the $150 sim kit and then transfer the credit from the $150 sim to the $2 sim because it was a genuine mistake

now let's see if that actually happens

if not…does anyone know if Big W offer refunds on open but unused sim kits

    • +1

Refund highly unlikely if opened. Just port out to any non Telstra SIM and then port back into the $150 Boost SIM.

  • No stock in BigW Winston NSW

  • No stock anywhere in Melbourne, pretty disappointing, Big W = Big Fail

    • -1

karingal has a stack there (yesterday at least)

      • -2

I rang big w today, I was advised no Melbourne stores hace stock, I had to look up where Karingal is… Lol.. Frankston is barely Melbourne

    • Really? Got one in Lilydale this afternoon. They had at least 5 or 6 on the shelf. First one failed to activate at the register though so they made me get another one. I didn't even check stock, it was just my local that I went to.

  • +1

Big fail. Advised they only had 8 and sold out the first day. Advertising like aldi now

  • +1

Why BigW cant do this deal like Coles, gives you a blank $2 sim and then print out the voucher with the recharge code, then this will never run out of stock!

    • Is there any difference in the way the 2 sims work? Does the recharge on the Big W one ($150) start straight away or does it need to be activated like the $2 sim recharge? I bought tge Big W one but don't need to use it for about 1.5 months.

  • Checked one store and called another, no stock. They couldn't see when they will get more in or put it on raincheck. Pretty disappointing.

  • So I can't just buy this as recharge voucher?

  • +1

What a waste of time, have not been able to get this at any BiG W store…it was the same story when the promo was at Coles..It just seems BOOST doesn’t want any customers…

  • I got one at Big W Eastgardens yesterday around lunch time. Don't know how many they have in stock. I would've asked if I knew how hard these were to get.

  • +1

I advised a friend about this deal and he found a SIM pack but the register couldn't activate the credit. This is not worth the hassle given the trouble others have reported here for a $12 saving (ie. Buy direct from Boost website) or $10 saving if you are already on Boost.

Coles previous deal for $135 recharge + free SIM is a better way of doing it. Best of both worlds.

  • +2

None at the following (calling through at 11am this morning):
    - Top Ryde
    - Rouse Hill
    - Blacktown
    - Winston Hills
    - Macquarie
    - Pagewood

    • None at Bankstown, Auburn, Chullora, Campsie, North Ryde, Macquarie, Miranda, Rockdale, Hurstville.

  • A lot of effort fot $10 savings over the space of a year!

    • +1

The joy of being an Ozbargainer, even over a saving of $1

      • +1

For some people its a savings of $10 but for others it's a saving of $34 a month.. or almost $400 a year. The opportunity being the deal is the catalyst to change.

We now have 4 family on this plan and another 5 friends moved over as well. If we saved $10 on each of those then it's a savings collectively of $90 in a year…

        • I was going to add to my previous comment
…….but great advertising for Kmart to get people in the door to buy something else while there (dur tolack of SIMS) and even better advertising for Boost who get more people onboard even without and extra $10 off.
I am a Boost customer so not having a go or anything :-) Mind you, my 6mth $100 80GB is coming up for renewal on 16th so am on the look out for another Boost deal!

          • @Borg: It’s called bait advertising.

  • Went to Sunshine market bigW on Saturday 31/8, the guy in charge in electronic department told me there were none left, very disappointed

    • +3

he lied.. they never had stock

  • Big W in Brisbane city doesn't have this. And the guy had no idea what store stocks them

  • +6

That's why BigW is closing stores. Sh*t customer service.

  • +1

Activation was a bit dumb, didn't recognise unit addresses for my street (didn't even recognise my correct street number) so I had to go through live chat. Still done in 15 minutes though and Sim was activated by the time I got to work.

  • +1

Big W Doncaster sold out the day after the sale started, and said it was the same at other stores. Staff had no idea if more will become available and said Boost just couldn't keep up with demand. How many are they signing up, and are we going to see potential bandwidth problems on 4G with this backdoor rush to Telstra, while they concentrate on 5G?

  • -1

Anyone tried buying online from BigW?

    • but it's available in store only ?

  • Anyone tried to price match with OW?

    • OW don't have 1 year plans on their website.

  • +1

Was at BigW. Went to the counter. Beforee I even said anything the lady said it’s sold out.

  • Anyone have problems port-in with Optus, I did this on Monday afternoon an still my number has not port over yet

    • +1

Give them a call because that's not the norm. I had issues porting into Telstra and back out to Vodafone last week but they were issues only across two days specific to Telstra.

      • Thx for the reply, I did call them before an it was in progress an should be completed in the next 24 hours if that dose not happen I need to call them up again

    • Not with Optus but trying to port from Vodafone, sumbitted the port request on Saturday Night and we are now Wednesday night and still nothing. Live Chat keep saying to wait 24hrs and still no sign of anything

      • I gave them a call this morning 1800 631 334 transfer team an in one hour my number was transfers and everything working fine. Give them a call

  • +1

Just bought 1 out of a newly opened pack of 10 at bigw queen vic Melbourne they now have some stock

    • Still heaps left this morning..Just grabbed one.

      • Tried going today during lunch. Sold out. Guy at the desk said they weren't ordering anymore.

  • Can't find any stock in Sydney, I guess there would be an option to buy the $150 version online!?

    • would have to buy $2 boost sim first

  • +2

Heaps of $150 sim kit at Big W Epping VIC

  • Looks like this offer is now online on boost website. Need to buy a new sim(if not with boost) and choose the recharge from different options. The link is given below. https://boost.com.au/plans/#Long-Expiry I am new to ozbargain, please suggest a correction or make a new post.

  • +3

For those still trying to hunt down the sim from Big Ws, better just get $150 worth of Wish eGiftcard for $142.50 from this Shopback $2 Bonus deal, use it to buy the Boost $150 recharge voucher and a $2 sim (which is basically free due to the $2 bonus). The time and fuel cost going around different Big Ws is most likely not worth the $2.50 saving.
