Great price on a very good lens. This lens lives on my a6000.

  • Any recommendations for a wide angle lens for the Sony APSC series while we're on topic?

    • +10

Highly recommend the Sigma 16mm f1.4

    • +4

      Samyang 12mm is excellent

    • +5

Agree with dpthomas94. I also rock a Samyang 12mm f/2.0 for the ultrawides. Cheap little bit of kit, but great for night sky shots and big landscapes.

I have a6000 and the lens-to-have on wide angle front is the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f2.

95% reviews say that's the king.

      It's manual focus however.

    • Sorry guys, I probably should’ve mentioned I intended to use it for videography!

      • How much wider than 18mm do you want to go for video? The power zoom on this lens makes it a great video lens.

        • I guess since my a6500 came with a kit lens it covers a similar range (18 - 135mm), so I figure it wouldn’t be smart to double-up for the purpose of filming.

          Open to suggestions though!

            @bossmode: sony 10-18mm f4 or sigma 16mm f1.4 or sony 35mm f1.8

          • @bossmode: I have the 10-18 and Sigma 16 for wide-angle videography (on the a6500) and can I just say that the Sigma is damn amazing. Such a versatile lens and great focal length, perfect for gimbal work and incredible for night shooting (so long as you can keep it above the EV-1 levels you need for decent AF on the a6500.

Don't use the 10-18 all that much for videography which surprised me.

        use it for videography!

        Sigma 16mm f/1.4

The full frame equivalent is $1614.15. Great price for the lens.

    • Can't we just use this in a full frame camera like a7ii ?

      • +1

It’ll crop to APS-C size automatically, so I guess, but you’re not getting full use of your sensor.

        • Can switch the apsc crop off so above half zoom it ‘should’ give a larger image than the apsc crop on the sensor. A bit of work for little reward though.

    • Unfortunately they've jacked the price this morning, showing $1899

  • +1

It looks like they have a pretty decent sale on most of the Sony lenses at the moment.

  • This is very good price for the lens.

  • +1

    showing 699 to me.

    • Same here

    • Oof, hope they didn’t get arrive in the morning and see a bunch of orders and price jack…

      • I'd say it is more likely they accidentally applied a 15% discount to it.

      • It’s monday, gotta give then something to do.

  • I have this lens. Picture quality is good, but not stellar which is fairly normal for a zoom. The OSS though is godly. Insane 4-5 stops solid with noticeably better OSS than any other lens I've used. I use it most of the time for both video and stills.

  • what is everyones opinion on a good all rounder for the A6000? or should i be upgrading now.
Lots of Street photography, architectural and some landscapes. good for lowlight and night sky?

    • +1

I use the 18-135 f3.5-5.6 OSS on my a6300. It's pretty good, particularly at the telephoto end, not great depth of field at the wide end though.
I have wondered whether it would be worth trying out the 18-105 f4 in the above deal.

For portraits I use the 50 OSS f1.8

Next lens I'll get is the Sigma 16 f1.4
      or
      Tamron 28-75 f2.8
Both future proof choices for full frame upgrade in the future

    • +1

This is my go-to all rounder for my Sony APSC cameras. Has been a very useful focal length range (particularly when travelling) and the F4 makes it ok in low light (but you're better off with something like the Sigma 16mm F1.4 if you're doing lots of low light stuff).

    • +1

If you don't mind a prime lens, I pretty much leave my Sony 35mm F1.8 lens on my A6000. With the crop factor on these cameras it's got the equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame camera, which apparently is similar to the field of view the human eye has.

      • Currently i have the E 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS that i got when I purchased the body
nice compact and pretty good shots but wondering if I can get better out of the unit?

        • +1

Yeah most reviews suggest the 16-50mm is not a good lens at all (mostly complaining about softness from memory). I don't mind that lens as it's very compact, and it's useful having the zoom. I have been happy with the 35mm SEL35F18 though (have a read of some reviews)..

  • I use this as my main lens on my a6300, been excellent for everything also rock the sigma 1.4f 16m - between those 2 I dont need anything else

    • How have you found the Sigma without stabilisation? Keen to pick it up for my A6400 but a little concerned about shake.

      • Freehand shooting is ok, I have to take extra care, I mainly do photos, very little video, but when I do vid I use a Zhiyun crane gimbal that I scored from Ozbargin almost 2 years ago and thats smooth as, or just mono/tripod action - time to upgrade to the new a6600

  • I got lucky and my order is in shipped state. Good luck for the next deal!
