Free delivery with prime I think on this one, as it's from the US?

    • I thought it was free for prime and non prime because it’s over $50… could be wrong?

      • +1

$889.96 + $44.44 Delivery for non Prime member.

        • Ah thanks, mods already corrected the title

    • They should at least mention the refresh rate on Gaming stuff by now as standard I could guess 60hz but just for completeness sake

  • Will this laptop comfortably run GTA 5?

    • +4

Yeah 1050 should run GTA pretty comfortably - maybe like 50fps on 1080 and High.

  • reasonable specs for a quasi gaming laptop and great price.

  • was just about this post this - 15 min too late!

    • 😎

  • Would this come with a US power adapter? Also, would it attract a 10% GST in sending it to Australia?

    • +1

with Amazon, I think GST is already included.

I was not paying extra for my purchases before from Amazon Us.

      • So means we can claim tax back via TRS, right?

        • sorry not sure on that, but I checked the tax invoice, it has GST included.

however the address of the invoice is US address, but still it's a valid tax invoice- with the ABN of Amazon Australia.

I am curious to know it too..

Although it does say on TRS website: you can not claim on goods purchased over the Internet and imported into Australia

Laptop power supplies are usually dual voltage, so it would just mean a new power cable - under $5.

  • Great price really.

I'm a bit disappointed that it doesn't have an optical drive though (I'd prefer not to have to carry an external optical drive with a laptop, wouldn't be so bad with a PC).

    • +2

Just convert it to ISO on USB

      • True, forgot about that.

The only thing is that most paid software on an optical disc would be copyright protected, requiring the use of questionable software to bypass it.

        • Iso mounting software isn't at all questionable.

          • @Lukian: Not the ones that just mount non copyright content, mostly they're not questionable.

I meant that there's a lot of questionable ISO mounting software that claims (and sometimes does) mount images that are protected by various software protection methods, after bypassing or breaking it.

That's mainly due to the fact that they often need to use rootkits, in order to do that, and a lot of those are questionable.

In my experience they also often used to contain malware when downloaded from various sites, so that even if the rootkit was benign, the malware that's downloaded with it (possibly from compromised websites) can use the rootkit to hide from the OS.

        • How many of them are left tho, most have moved to online activations and subscription models

    • +1

Do any laptops have optical drives?

  • is there any cashback from amazon ?

  • Would this handle the MSI 34" monitor with much issues?

Budget-price gaming notebooks are polarizers. They'll get you playing, but the next performance tier up from them usually isn't that much of a financial stretch. That's the dilemma facing the GL63, MSI's 15.6-inch economy gaming model. (It starts at $899; $999 as tested.) The 8RC-076 configuration in this review pairs, oddly, a high-end hexa-core processor with an entry-level Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics chip. That's not inherently a bad combo, but the GPU makes the GL63 a tough sell. For about the same price, Dell's G7 15 gets you far more capable GTX 1060 (Max-Q) graphics. Quick searches revealed this GL63 configuration discounted by etailers by $100, but it needs more markdown to be competitive. Lenovo's Legion Y530, our current top-pick budget gamer, emphasizes this: It offers a sleeker design, better battery life, and a 4GB version of the GTX 1050 starting at just $749.

Reading the rest of the review, this laptop is below best value / performance. We're basically copping out for a 1050 when we could be paying a tiny bit more for a lot better, like that other $999 deal, assuming we're sticking sub-$1000

      • +1

don't forget the article is USD. This deal is AUD

      • +1

Yes it's USD. Otherwise everyone will buy legion y530 for AUD 750 lol.

  • Bargain, everyone should get 1

Reviews said screen I dim, viewing angle limited….
    Also, the bezel is thick

Did you know you can pay more to buy a laptop with better features?

  • Tempted! this would be great for Oculus/PCVR

    • or just get an oculus quest and run virtual desktop/ALVR hooked up wirelessly to your high powered desktop.

      untethered VR is much better.

      • I have the quest. Graphic wise, I’m getting over it. I want to try newer better games

        • ALVR mate, yea that snapdragon 835 is dated, but still can stream good 4k video for VR. Play steamVR games wirelessly.

    • Graphics card is not quite good enough for VR IMHO.

      • My 1050ti isn't, so this wont be even close for vr…

  • My son is starting high school next year. Would this be good to get for school work (not gaming!). Would it be too early to get now for next year? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • I wouldn't get this just for school work. You can get much cheaper machines for that.

      • +7

        Damn it, Dad :(

      • Thanks for that. I know there's cheaper options out there but thought the specs may hold up longer. Want something to last at least 3-4 years

        • +1

🤔 hmm well you're paying a premium for the gaming card, which I don't think is crucial for lastability.. so if you took it out and searched for a equivalent i5, 256 SSD, 8GB RAM laptop with on-board GFX you would definitely find cheaper.

But if you want your son to enjoy playing Fortnite, get this.

          • +1

@Andard: Spot on my recommendations with the specs. And depends how tight you run the ship @Swiper, your son might bug you for a laptop that will be able to run games on.

          • @Andard: Sorry I'm noob in gaming: so, there is no benefit of getting laptop with good gpu? I'm too, not gamer but want something last long. (This ticks mynliat on IPS level, type c and 8th gen cpu)

            • @CyberMurning: You should get this :) better make a decision soon too, less than 30 mins to go.

        • These laptops tend to have pretty bad battery life, I can confirm these are not great laptops for school exclusively.

Also, good chance your son is gonna use it to play games because thats pretty much why someone would buy this laptop. Maybe if you do some graphics design, but even then there are much better laptops for that.

          For school laptops, I'd want
decent CPU, FHD screen, good battery life and fairly light.

    • +1

I would look at other options for school. This is a dedicated gaming laptop and possibly bulky.

      • Good advice, that makes sense. Cheers

    • Many schools do not provide places for kids to charge their notebooks. If you're buying a big grunty machine loaded for bear with gaming-grade GPU's take note that their batteries typically don't last for more than 4-5 hours even on power-saving mode.

Ultrabooks don't have the grunt to play games but what they do have is power efficiency (7-8 hours being the norm) so take into consideration into power vs portability

  • I chatted with Amazon about warranty they said if anything happen I will need to ship it back to USA but Amazon will reimburse the shipping cost. I thought MSI has global warranty….

    • maybe ask MSY instead ?

      1300 222 688

      • i called just now. the guy from sales said, warranty is 1 year only for overseas stock, sent to NSW address. after that you might need to send back to USA. local stock, 2 years local warranty.

I purchased this about 3 months ago when a computer alliance deal was posted. I find it to be great, looks comfortable in a cafe and doesn't have that super bulky gaming laptop aesthetic. Smoothly runs games (just under the recommended specs for the new borderlands) and I can comfortably edit video and use photoshop with it.

Main downside for me is the charger is quite large and laptop itself is on the heavier side (altho you will get this with most gaming spec laptops).

    • +1

Does it look comfortable in other places, other than in a cafe?

      • Haha yes definitely. Sits nicely on lap and wouldn't bat an eyelid taking it into work.

  • I would recommend a GTX1050 TI or higher for anyone looking to buy a gaming laptop.
The GTX1050 is going to struggle with new release games at mid-high settings.

  • deal ends… price back to normal, $908.72
    whopping save of $18.xx

    • +2

      $1349 AUD dude.

      • whooups,, you are right.

        • +1

Was showing $908.72 for a short while as I checked just after reading your previous comment. Must have gone up to $1349 after that.

  • Is my post a better deal?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/481277

    • I've been pondering the GF75 all day. If anyone can find a more powerful 17.3" laptop with compact dimensions for the money I'm all ears.

  • Can someone recommend a decent 15.6'/17' laptop with a glossy bright screen (300 nits or more). I need it mainly for multimedia and browsing. Absolutely no gaming. Quick responses appreciated!!

  • this is now AUD $1,098.35
