Good price, if competitive fps i would recommend 240hz 1080p, can be had for around $350ish.

I use the xg2530, it was on here for $320 at some point.

240hz is a waste of money

        • Subjective. Which 240hz do you own? Maybe it's sub-par.

          • @TheTopMostDog: The human brain can’t process or see the difference between 144 and 240. Heck you’d be hard pressed to tell anything above 80. So it’s marketing bs.

@cnut: I dunno man, people said the same about 60+ once.

My reading on blurbusters suggests the framerates that would be indistinguishable from real physical stimuli is in the thousands, not hundreds.

            • @cnut: Oh okay, what 240hz do YOU own, then?

Snide aside, my point was that nobody who says this stuff actually has experience with it. I can tell when my screen drops from 144 to 120; it's /very/ noticeable for me, but sure, it's subjective and some people simply cannot see it… I'm just yet to meet one.

              • @TheTopMostDog: BS you notice the difference. You probably notice the relative frame drops, not the FPS itself.

                I have a 144hz and there’s no real difference between 120 and 144.

                • @cnut: Nor may you be able to see the difference between 100 and 106, but the larger you make that gap, the more easily you will see the difference. It isn't accurate to extrapolate there there is no difference between 144 and 240 by comparing 120 and 144.

        • Nah it's really not a waste for competitive first person shooters, but actually driving that many frames on max is tough work. I get about 180 on siege, 160 on battlefield 5 on max/ultra settings.

    • From what I can see they're pretty much the same in specs. Only noticeable difference is that the samsung one is QLED while the Viewsonic one is LCD

Also the samsung one has a dual-hinged arm which would give you more control of the display's position. If you're going to mount it on the wall then I guess the Viewsonic is a better bargain.

QLED is just LED. LED is just LCD. QLED is just fancy LCD technology.

    • +1

The Samsung would have a better picture due to QLED.

The Viewsonic has superior FreeSync capabilities at 48-144hz over display port and HDMI. The Samsung is limited to FreeSync at 70-144Hz over display port only.

Basically if you're running at below 70fps and have a FreeSync capable video card I'd go Viewsonic otherwise Samsung is better.

  • This is very likely the same VA panel that MSI, AOC and a bunch of others use.

  • Really good panel, especially the colours, but the stand is super awkward because of how much space it takes up behind the panel and because it's round. The round base is also convex so stuff will roll off it, because why not.
